Man Attempts to Set Off Explosives on Detroit-Bound Airplane

Suspect Claims al Qaeda Terrorism Link, but FBI, Investigators Are Suspicious
By RICHARD ESPOSITO and SCOTT MAYEROWITZ
Dec. 25, 2009

Federal officials and police are interviewing a Nigerian man, who allegedly tried to "explode" a powdery substance aboard a Northwest flight from Amsterdam to Detroit, injuring himself and two other passengers, law enforcement officials said.

Northwest Airlines flight 253 is shown on the runway after arriving at Detroit Metropolitan Airport from Amsterdam on Friday. A passenger aboard the plane set off an explosive device, causing a commotion and some minor injuries, a Delta official said. Northwest is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Delta.

The man said he was directed by al Qaeda to explode a small device in flight, over U.S. soil, ABC News has learned. Authorities have no corroboration of that information, and the credibility of the suspect's statements are being questioned, officials said.

The government had no immediate plans after the incident to raise the threat level, a federal government source said.

The suspect had been in a law enforcement-intelligence database but was not on the government's no-fly list, according to a law enforcement official.

"The subject is claiming to have extremist affiliation and that the device was acquired in Yemen along with instructions as to when it should be used," a federal situational awareness bulletin stated.

Delta spokeswoman Susan Chana Elliott said that "as the plane was getting ready to land" in Detroit "a passenger caused a disturbance" by trying to ignite what was initially reported to be firecrackers.

The man was "subdued immediately," Elliott said. Northwest is a wholly owned subsidiary of Delta.

They could still get him out of office.
But instead, they want mass death.

My wife turned on CNN and it was clear what pure psyops this type of programming is now. The round-the-clock, repeat-the-images-over-and-over type of shit.

Weirdly, Fox seems to be asleep at the wheel, or at least they were about an hour ago. Showing some O'reilly re-run.

If the plane had blown up Fox would have been screaming "On Barrack's watch"

They'll probably scream that anyway. Anything to keep the "divide and conquer" thing going.

hey, his dad's a Nigerian banker... Who tried to warn the US about his crazy son. Somehow he never made it onto the no-fly list. Now keep in mind my city's mayor, Samuel Adams, blond hair, blue eyes, then a city councilman, found himself on the no-fly list a few years ago. How many thousands of names are added per day at last count? He was supposedly on some other watch list too...

for now, I'm going to say he was probably programed to act this out by the assholes in the US. might as well assume so until some evidence to the contrary surfaces, if ever.

Oh yah. Failed terrorist attack on the EVE of the single most flown day by American civilians. Everybody sittin' at the airport watching CNN airport service shit, downing their whiskeys and sippin on Starbucks, taking that weird fear home with them to ring in the new year! Grammas sittin' at home, just hoping the good TSA will get their little sons and daughters home safe. Grandpa's joining the teaparty. And then it stews and simmers as the media "investigation" begins each night and all day. What can be done, they rhetorically ask.

Nothing obvious whatsoever. Somebody sure has the cattle figured out. But we're not cattle! No we're Americans, brave and true.

Floyd:

Instant Karma: New US War Target Gets Its Own Terror Icon
http://chris-floyd.com/

Wow, that didn't take long at all. Scant days after the American war machine took the cloaking device off its direct military involvement in Yemen, we have an alleged attempted terrorist attack by an alleged attempted terrorist who, just scant hours after his capture, has allegedly confessed to getting his alleged attempted terrorist material from ... wait for it ... Yemen!

As an aside, I read somewhere today, an Isarali company does the majority of airport security for most european countries. Same as during Sept 11th.

Incident on Another Amsterdam-to-Detroit Flight

DETROIT — The pilots of Northwest Airlines Flight 253 from Amsterdam to Detroit — the same flight involved in Friday’s terrorism attempt — requested emergency assistance Sunday upon landing in Detroit, Scott Wintner, an airport spokesman said.

The crew had requested police assistance on the ground because a passenger was “verbally disruptive,” according to a statement from Delta Airlines, which acquired with Northwest last year.

The Transportation Safety Administration released a statement: “Northwest Airlines alerted TSA to a disruptive passenger on board flight 253 from Amsterdam to Detroit. The flight landed safely at Detroit International Airport at approximately 12:35 p.m. e.s.t. without incident. The aircraft has been moved to a remote location for additional screening. TSA and law enforcement met the aircraft upon arrival, the passenger is now in custody.”

Police vehicles met the plane at the far end of the airport, and five buses drove up to the plane, in a repeat of the same scene that occurred on Friday.

“It’s a pretty typical response,” Mr. Winter said of the police vehicles. “With an aircraft situation, speed is of the essence.”

Even before the plane arrived, it was already running more than an hour late, according to the arrivals board inside the airport.

The Associated Press reported that the passenger in question was a man from Nigeria, the same country of suspect in Friday’s terrorism attempt. The second Nigerian man was taken into custody after locking himself in the airliner’s lavatory, The A.P. reported. CNN reported that the man had locked himself in the lavatory for such a long time that the crew requested help on the ground.

A Delta spokeswoman says all 256 passengers have been safely taken off the plane.

Lots of high weirdness.

Whose the sharp dressed man in Amsterdam?

Who goes with him to see 'the manager down the hall' at Amsterdam Airport who cleared this guy to board the flight?

Plus another passenger got taken into custody after the plane landed?

Sounds like Mutallab was drugged, too.

Flight 253 passenger: Sharp-dressed man aided terror suspect Umar Farouk Abdul Mutallab onto plane without passport (MLive.com exclusive)

While Mutallab was poorly dressed, his friend was dressed in an expensive suit, Haskell said. He says the suited man asked ticket agents whether Mutallab could board without a passport. “The guy said, 'He's from Sudan and we do this all the time.'”

Mutallab is Nigerian. Haskell believes the man may have been trying to garner sympathy for Mutallab's lack of documents by portraying him as a Sudanese refugee.

The ticket agent referred Mutallab and his companion to her manager down the hall, and Haskell didn't see Mutallab again until after he allegedly tried to detonate an explosive on the plane.

Haskell said the flight was mostly unremarkable. That was until he heard a flight attendant say she smelled smoke, just after the pilot announced the plane would land in Detroit in 10 minutes. Haskell got out of his seat to view the brewing commotion.

“I stood up and walked a couple feet ahead to get a closer look, and that's when I saw the flames,” said Haskell, who sat about seven rows behind Mutallab. “It started to spread pretty quickly. It went up the wall, all the way to ceiling.”

Haskell, who described Mutallab as a diminutive man who looks like a teenager, said about 30 seconds passed between the first mention of smoke and when Mutallab was subdued by fellow passengers.

“He didn't fight back at all. This wasn't a big skirmish,” Haskell said. “A couple guys jumped on him and hauled him away.”

---

As Mutallab was being led out of the plane in handcuffs, Haskell said he realized that was the same man he saw trying to board the plane in Amsterdam.

Passengers had to wait about 20 minutes before they were allowed to exit the plane. Haskell said he and other passengers waited about six hours to be interviewed by the FBI.

About an hour after landing, Haskell said he saw another man being taken into custody. But a spokeswoman from the FBI in Detroit said Mutallab was the only person taken into custody.

Check this out:

"He was in a trance".

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world ... 51090.html

Mr Schuringa, who was due to connect in Detroit to a Miami flight for a Christmas holiday, said of the suspect: "He was shaking. He didn't resist anything. It's just hard to believe that he was trying to blow up this plane. He was in a trance. He was very afraid."

Mr Schuringa also said that when he first grabbed the suspect he saw a burning liquid dripping on to the floor.

The high explosive Abdulmutallab used was identified by the FBI as Pentaerythritol, better known as PETN – a major component of Semtex. He injected a detonating liquid into the PETN with a syringe, but the bomb failed to explode.

The revelation of Abdulmutallab's background has confounded terror experts. Dr Magnus Ranstorp of the Center for Asymmetric Threat Studies at the Swedish National Defence College said that the attempted bombing "didn't square".

"On the one hand, it seems he's been on the terror watch list but not on the no-fly list," he said. "That doesn't square because the American Department for Homeland Security has pretty stringent data-mining capability. I don't understand how he had a valid visa if he was known on the terror watch list.

Looks like the same old same old.
