Hmmmm....

...The website for the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration lists the following states as being especially vulnerable to tsunamis, in addition to the U.S. Caribbean Islands: Hawaii, Alaska, Washington, Oregon, and California. There is currently no tsunami warning system for the east coast of the United States....

[quote="Peregrine"]This is why, little 'ol me up here in Vancouver, is going to be buying an earthquake kit this week...[/quote

I have loved ones who live in a city that would be impacted if there is an earthquake in their area. They don't have any money and I'd like to help them prepare--I just found http://www.ehow.com/facts_6008303_earth ... ation.html

Any other advice from anyone on what to include in the kit, or what else to do for preparations?

4.4-magnitude earthquake rattles Southern California

An earthquake rippled across Southern California just before dawn, jolting people awake.

No reports of injuries, damage or power outages been linked to the 4.4-magnitude temblor.

There are reports of a buckled 10-foot stretch of concrete in a center lane of southbound Interstate 5 south of downtown Los Angeles in the Downey area. It is unclear if the broken concrete was caused by the quake.

The quake centered about 10 miles east of downtown Los Angeles.

New consciousness-altering earthquake has killed at least 300 in China...

Has there been a year like this before?

Not to say there hasn't been a year with bigger and more frequent quake, but of the type that have hit the human population, like this year? (not to say there haven't been more deadly quakes)

One of the biggest prominences in years erupted from the sun's northwestern limb today. The massive plasma-filled structure rose up and burst during a ~2 hour period around 0900 UT. Mark Townley sends this freeze-frame from his backyard observatory in Brierley Hill, West Midlands, UK... Image The eruption hurled a bright coronal mass ejection (CME) into space...The cloud is not heading toward Earth, at least not directly. A glancing blow from the outskirts of the CME is possible two to three days from now, but any impact is likely to be mild. The eruption was more photogenic than geoeffective.

Keep postulating, keep doubting and keep thinking that we need to worry about bullshit like peak oil. There is a reckoning coming and it has nothing to to with anything except to teach us our place in the universe.

We are very, very low on the totem poll.

Given that earthquakes tend to kill the people who really didn't need any reminding of their former place on the totem poll, I suggest it's a pretty confused choice of weapon for whatever vengeful and blood thirsty entity you are representing here.

Absolutely.

Maybe that is the meaning.

From OMH's link:

The deep solar minimum of 2008-2009 has come to an end and a new solar cycle is gaining strength. If forecasters are correct, Solar Max is just two to three years away. Are you ready?

Thanks for the cool link.

Look at the bright side. This is certainly putting a dent in the US's ability to conduct military operations.

And it's certainly going to put a dent in our global warming problem for a few years.
