Twenty five years ago, spouse and I moved 3,000 miles and bought a house next to a young couple. They turned out to be great neighbors. During a BBQ bash they invited us to, I noticed their wedding photo on a bookshelf, and I could only stare in disbelief at the date of their wedding -- 7/14/1979 -- same as ours. Later during the party, I told them of the coincidence and asked them what their birthdays are: His was the same as mine -- 12/8 -- and hers was the same as my husband's -- 10/18.

Maybe it's why we'v all gotten along so well for all these years. It's in the numbers.

I take synchs as attempts at communication between different layers of our being. Maybe they are trying to show us the way toward authentic expressions of being. The/or our (socially contrived and impressed) conscious modeling of reality, that we swim in every day, turns the lives of many people into lives that are built on lies of convenience.

The unconscious ground of being ‘thinks’ of our conscious models as presumptuous and shallow, and we will be informed of this truth one way or another.

My best recent sync was to fall asleep at the wheel of our car, wreck it badly, and then get new license plates with the symbols EVB 2020.

Hat tip to LBO, Pele’sDaughter and Nordic over on the Maybe thread.
All these things will continue as long as coercion remains a central element of our mentality.

May 19th (now) is my wedding anniversay (tho my real name isn't Joe).

Its also a friends birthday, and my wifes b'day is one of my best friends friends anniversary etc etc.

What is it with dates an coincidences?

There's a sad side to this.

A friend who was at our wedding died on my wife's b'day the other day. It was release tho, he was fucked from cancer. I suspect he wanted to "die with dignity". Its his wake on Friday, when we would have otherwise gone out to party for our anniversary. So we'll party there instead.

The wake's at the hall where we got married.

Its synchronous cos it has meaning.

Wow.

Lupe could very easily be a clone of our late cat Shirley, who died of a massive tumor last year. It was one of those tumors caused by a routine injection she received several years ago (one we didn't want to have administered, but the vet insisted).

Shirley had a sister named Lavern, who died last week from congestive heart failure. Our old tom of an outside cat died last week too. It was a hellishly awful week.

I've got all kinds of synch stuff to relate, but not right now--I pulled an all-nighter to try to catch up at work (still ain't there).

Sure I do. Explain it or else I'm going back to that Cydonia thread for the rest of my life.

ya know, your username, 82_28, is: <year_of_PKD's_death>_<year of PKD's_birth>

was that intentional? (probably not but FYI :) )

Fuck you!!!!! Arghhhh. No I did not realize that!!!. That freaks me out. Totally freaks me out. Now I do realize it and it was not intentional and I also happen to be a huge PKDickian thought dabbler.

82_28 comes from a cash turn-in as a bartender of $82.28 for three straight shifts a couple of years ago. Fuckin' weird.

And I didn't mean "fuck you" as in "fuck you". Just fuuuucckkkk you man, are you kidding?!?!? Too fuckin' weird.

s'cool I know how you meant it. it's that old synchomystic sibilance at it again. As long as you're not waking up in the night to discover your clock radio secretly whispering insults at you, all is well... or well, well as can be.

What was it, Radio Free Albemuth which featured the cat who died and then the pink light turned off??? PKD seemed extremely sad about this death -- in fact I cried at that part in the book. God, I wish there was an online repository of cut and pasteable PKD text.

My first significant long-term opposite sex relationship had a birthday one day away from that of my sister.

Then when I got married, I married a woman with the same first name as my sister.

My son was due on the birthday of my mother. (he was induced early due to his big size). And now his birthday is the same as his mother's, only the first digit is switched around ( 02 instead of 20 )

My very good friend up until last year had a daughter with the same birthday as my son, only one year later.

My wife's first husband had a name quite similar to mine, but French.

When I started dating her, I would run into the guy around town (and this is a big big town, Los Angeles!). I thought maybe he was stalking me at first but it wasn't, it was just weird synchronicity. I mean I literally bumped into him at a Best Buy once, what are the odds of that?

There are tons of other ones, these are just what come to mind immediately.

FWIW I have a friend who got married on 9/11 back in the 90's. They are now divorced.

That earlier post about Valee, and perhaps the universe storing information as a computer stores it? Well, if we're really in The Matrix, that makes perfect sense, no? :)

Yesterday, on my other message board (which I pretty much use to communicate with my IRL circle of friends during the day), I started a thread asking what everyone's favorite Francoise Hardy song was, as I had just listened to "La Maison Ou J'ai Grandi." The only response was a jokey one in that one of the posters just wanted to hear the Born Against song "Half Mast" but couldn't at work.

The third response was another friend feeling freaked out because his itunes had just randomly played, on shuffle, Born Against "Half Mast" followed by France Gall's cover of the Francoise Hardy song "Laissez Tomber Les Filles."

I had a series of three synchronicities just a few weeks ago but now I can't remember. It again involved the internet. Something about one of my facebook friends posting about a highly specific subject at the same time that a co-worker was saying something to me about the same subject, and then my girlfriend, who is friends with neither, mentioned the same subject when I got home. And as far as I remember, it wasn't an internet meme or anything.

This morning my cousin who lives in Massachusetts and a colleague who lives in Pennsylvania both posted on facebook about the exact same subject back-to-back. They do not know each other. This was a little more "meme-oriented" though.

before lunch today I started writing my response in the Cydonia thread, and had already looked up the "upside-down" map I put in there. I remembered a chat I had with a guy about five years ago in a bar about the arbitrariness of having North at the top of the globe. Then I popped out to meet my wife for lunch, and the guy was sitting at the next table. It was the first time I'd seen him since then. I couldn't remember his name but then he came over and asked for a light and we had a cool catch up chat.

I'm currently experiencing one of those "you learn a new word and then you see it everywhere" experiences with my 7 year old son. I taught him recently about something (and weirdly enough I can't remember what it is right at the moment) and now when we go out we're seeing examples of it everywhere.

One of the funniest one of these was with my stepdaughter, when she was still young enough to put on my shoulders (probably 6) and she saw her first "little person" (we used to call them midgets). I explained to her what they were, and suddenly we would see them EVERYWHERE. It was actually pretty comical how ubiquitous they suddenly were. And I taught her about them because she was on my shoulders when we saw the first one and she loudly announced something along the lines of "Whoa, what's wrong with that person!?"

I was really mad at my mother one day in 1982 and I wrote this shitty song where I scream about how she's ruining my life and The Police stole it.

I know that's a joke (I hope) but I have this horrible habit of writing screenplays in spec, and then, as soon as I'm done, finding out that someone else is about to make a movie with the same damn idea.

I mean it's weird. My screenwriter friends joke about it all the time with me.

I think I'm just tapping into some zeigeist somewhere.

"Tapping into some zeitgeist somewhere" seems like a level-headed, rational conclusion. Still I can't help but wonder just how much of an open book our personal computers really are to people who really want to look.

Well, I used to be a Salon regular back in the 90's, and I think I had a joke lifted. One windy poster signed off on a rant with "My name is Joe Blow, I live in St. Louis, and I am a proud Democrat" or something similar. Just being a dick, I posted "My name is Luka. I live on the second floor."

There was a cable series called "Action" with Jay Mohr as a sleazy film producer a year or so later. He used the same riposte to an indignant exec he'd just caught in flagrante.

"My name is Jack Blau-- I'm the vice president of development at Weeniemax."

Jay Mohr character: "My name is Luka. I live on the second floor."

And that's enough 80's music references for one day.

But I totally believe in zeitgeists and egregores and how they influence us into writing the same things, thinking the same thoughts.
