I must live in a good spot for double rainbows. I saw at least three last week from my front porch.

I laughed. The guy was way too excited about rainbows.

I had a giggle at his reaction, but not in a mean spirited way, it's healthy to be able to express emotions, particularly in a situation like that. But to make fun of someone for reacting to this is rather dickish. Western society sure likes to bury intense feelings.

Just yesterday I witnessed three old Italians having a very heated discussion over a card game in the park. I thought there might be a brawl, but nope, they just had a passionate exchange & carried on with their cardgame as if nothing happened. Heh, scared all the mommas with the babies, though.

I'm betting that the video probably doesn't do justice to actually being there & seeing it, I'm sure it was pretty impressive. I've quite often wept at natural beauty, such as intense thunderstorms.

At Burning Man 2007, in the middle of an epic dust storm, this amazing double rainbow stretched across the entire playa. Breathtaking. It captivated tens of thousands of us at once.

i've been in Kimmel's house and he has TV sets in every room. Some rooms have more than one. He has at least two of them in his bathroom. He has three or four in his living room. In the downstairs bathroom he has an x-box that you can play while taking a dump.

I don't think there's anywhere you can sit in his house and find yourself NOT looking at a TV screen.

While I've never thought of him as a dick, there's gotta be something wrong with a guy who does this.

Not exactly in touch with nature. Probably scared to death of it.

My peak rainbow experience was in Colorado. Driving down I-70 towards Denver, it's all downhill for miles. It was pouring down rain but the sun was blazing directly behind us. It was SO behind us, so directly behind us, because we were pointed downhill, that it wasn't even a normal rainbow, but a circular rainbow, surrounding us, as we literally drove INTO it. Of course it moved with the car, it looked like about 30 feet ahead of us. It's very difficult to describe. It's as if the car was completely surrounded by a rainbow, which was suspended in front of us, and which was a part of us. All the colors around us were extremely saturated, because of the intensity of the sunshine, and the almost black background which was the storm ahead of us.

It was so spectacular we could barely believe it was happening at the time. I've never seen anything close to it since and I probably never will.

The guy who was driving is now dead. He died on I-70 a little further up into the mountains, a few years later.

I didn't have a camera on me when it happened. I never do when the really spectacular visual events present themselves. It's a little joke between me and God.

The almost daily thunderstorms that occur in the front range during the summer made for some incredible rainbows, and light shows. One of the many things I miss about the place.

For fucking once, someone feels something real and the 'commentators' make a fucking joke out of it.

ffs.

It pisses me off.

Pardon my French.

Did the guy ever get that happy when he bought a new TV? A new car? A new iThing? Who ever gets that happy buying anything? All it took to make the guy that happy was a rainbow, a free rainbow. All you had to to was Be there.

My rainbow experience happened while going for a walk in the woods soon after a heavy rainfall. The birds were suddenly active, the light was low and drops of rain on the leaves were illuminated to look like tiny yellow light bulbs. I was surrounded by hundreds of miniature glowing globes of light.

I didn't laugh. I found it amazingly real, what he was experiencing. And I actually pity people who have never had an experience like this -- an awakening, a humbling, a profound epiphany. I've had several in my life, mostly when I was younger and more impressionable -- and am glad they happened, regardless of how I now view them (intellectually, judgementally, from a distance, lacking the overwhelming emotion). But this guy's genuine reaction triggered the memories for me -- brought them back, at least a little bit, enough to get teary eyed, enough to want them again. Thanks for posting this Jeff. I really needed the reminder.

On edit: just watched it again. I cried this time, full-on, right in sync. Tears streaming down. It feels good to be human.

I saw 70 bald eagles once at Apgar Creek in Glacier Park. That brought tears to my eyes, followed by a profound sense of vague shame at the prescience that they would not be there long. Two years later they no longer had land locked salmon to feed on because the fish and game tried to introduce a crayfish to boost the ecosystem that carried a bacteria that wiped out the salmon. That still makes me want to cry.
Still it wasn't as tear jerking a moment as the last two weeks of April....
As far as the video goes....I did laugh when he started saying "Whhhaaat does it Meeeaaaan????" At that point I began to wonder if it wasn't Jimmy Klimptal himself.

Well, I once saw 71 bald eagles.

This and all the discussion about this reminds me of a story about the Buddha.

One day he went to give his discourse in front of his disciples. Instead of saying anything, he suddenly pulled out a flower and looked at it. All the disciples were puzzled, racking their brains, wondering what the meaning of it was. Only Kashyapa smiled, and their eyes met in understanding.

"My method of enlightenment is to see through everything, to embrace everything, and to approach everything with a happy heart, seeing clearly their original face. This mysterious dharma transcends both language and rational principles."

That guy in the video sounds so innocent, reacting like a child. What's to say? - it was the thing to do.

What a weird thing to say for a post #1. I mostly just like to lurk.
