"O Oysters," said the Carpenter,
"You've had a pleasant run!
Shall we be trotting home again?'
But answer came there none--
And this was scarcely odd, because
They'd eaten every one.

Thanks for that vid, Allegro, it was very instructive. The thing I'm finding hard to understand is not the leaders, though, because their motives are obvious, but the followers. I don't know where this new strand of abject, cringing authority-worship (of worldly authorities too!) is coming from in the "fringe" brands of Christianity. I thought the more extreme Christians had a long tradition of fleeing from earthly authority - from the established Churches, especially - in order to be closer to God? They were supposed to be the ones who didn't "Render unto Caesar."

Check out this guy. I can't get my head around his theology (such as it is), and it's utterly mystifying to hear it from their own mouths in their own words. Skip to 1.00 if you're in a hurry:

"That is why we must submit to all forms of authority. Because all authority is from God."

What?!? I just want to ask him why, if that's the case, he has apparently chosen to live out in the woods.
This message and mindset of Christians giving deep, loyal obeisance to earthly powers (and I don't mean Catholics like myself, where that's part of the faith) seems to have suddenly become very widespread, and it's creepy. It just freaks me out. I wish i had something better to say about it than that.

From your other link: "“Narcissists gravitate towards professions where they can control people and elicit adulation. They are more likely to work in politics, finance, or medicine...”

Poor Gerry McCann, was my first thought. He's got the full trifecta now. Not a popular view, I suppose, but it has to be said.

...Ahem, sorry, this be a music thread. You know what the problem with Art Garfunkel is? The problem is that he looks so much like Geert Wilders, and once you've seen it you can never go back. This song is probably how Wilders views himself as well - at least, it would be if he was more honest.

Montag, I remember owing you a serious apology. I've owed it for quite a while now, and I'm hoping you won't charge me interest on it - though you'd be within your rights to do that. The truth is, I have no clear memory of what I was even talking about in that thread about R.I., or why I posted in it, or why I took such deep offence at your OP (which was perfectly blameless). I think I read the first two sentences through a pretty dense fog, then extrapolated my own insults against myself in my own mind. There was never any fault on your part.

I'll post a note into the thread in question so that everybody will know it was only my own misreading that sent me off on the paranoid rant, and not anything that you had said or done. Sorry about that.

I can't post what Ive been listening to here now because the Stewart/Colbert/Yusuf Love Train song was all about peace and sanity, and I'm currently listening to Irish rebel songs of a particularly virulent and unforgiving stripe. They're good songs though.

Sorry again, Montag. I can't say there was no offence intended, because it was clearly intended, at the time. Why it was intended, though, when I read it back, I honestly don't know.

I'm afraid this one's a lot more controversial. It could hardly be called an unbiased source... ahem. If you look at 0.59 to 1.00, though, (I know that's not giving you much to look at) you'll see a UAV!

This was the first time they were used in active service to monitor a largely civillian, urban population - long before Afghanistan, long before Iraq... not all that long before Palestine, though, come to think of it. But Northern Ireland was a testing ground for all kinds of odd and unprecendented counterinsurgency techniques - some of which are sadly still in use today.

It was also a fertile testing ground for great songs! Of which we must have more.

Some not angry music... I have a vague memory of posting this before:

That guy, Christy Moore - i've come to the conclusion that he likes music... hehehe. I've rarely seen anybody get so took away with it. He enjoys what he does. How rare is that, nowadays?
