Thank God for that. I was and am worried, like everybody else, that if Mubarak goes, Suleiman will step into his place. That would be disastrous. I hope the people can hold out till they're both gone, and all their cronies with them (though they'll probably take even more of the treasury with them than they've already stolen over the last thirty years). The perseverance, intelligence, and the resistance to provocation shown by the Egyptian people has been, and will always be, an inspiration to the world.

Sorry for not bringing anything new or interesting to the thread, but I just had to say that. God bless and protect them all.

I don't think the regime insiders have any more idea of what's happening from minute to minute than we do - perhaps they even have less. There was a spokesman for the regime on the BBC about half an hour ago saying Mubarak was strong and had never considered leaving - then the presenter told him he was expected to step down in a couple of hours. The guy was dumbfounded.

Perhaps it's "coup on the fly" by media? Media announces it, goes viral, Egypt is small enough that the corporate media can overpower it by announcing it before it happens? What really could Mubarak do?

I'm encouraged by the confusion and mixed signals, actually. Makes me think the regime only thinks it still exists, and the transition may not mean Suleiman and a "return to normalcy."

update israeli MSM - lost interest basically in the egypt situation altogether. coming to terms with worse case scenario (hostile regime, revoked peace agreement, etc. etc.), moving on to domestic issues.

---
Looking back on post Obama elections, and the "Cairo speech", I see a pattern, or "plan" that is now unfolding, in the same order. If I'm right, it would mean that Zipi Livni will step in. It looks like a correction plan for previous ME policies that trampled over the rights of the larger public, in favor of centralized, despoitc US ruled puppets. The plan is to "reform" without rocking the boat (of American oil interests). In ISrael, perhaps part of it would be "correction" in favor of more gender equality (and less sexual violence as a political tool). Maybe I'm wrong, but looks like this was the "blueprint", now the 3d ":reality show". That's nice, but I also want hard cash compensations for direct victims of gross human rights violations...otherwise, what's the point?

I'm watching Channel 4 here and they say a statement inside the hour (by 8:30 GMT) with a 95% chance of Mubarek going. Apparently he recorded one speech and the Army didnt like it and made him do it again. Yah!

The energy at the square feels like being present at a birth.
The dignified Egyptian guest had tears streaming down his cheeks as he described what it meant to him - his son is in the square. I'm honoured and humbled to be able to witness this.

AJ reports that Egyptian State Television is now showing unsanitized images of the protesters at the Square. Something that they haven't done before.

This is very significant.

Mazars and Deutsche Bank could have ended this nightmare before it started.
They could still get him out of office.
But instead, they want mass death.
Don’t forget that.

Ayman Mohyedin on AJ also said that there has been a change in "tone" on state tv, now talking about social justice and the need to fight corruption.

Saudi Arabian officials were on a PR offensive Thursday following a report that claimed King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz al-Saud, 86, had suffered a heart attack after speaking to US President Barack Obama about the protests in Egypt.

I bet Abdullah isn't the only one having heart palpitations right now.

Cryptogon has this link to a Reuters live blog: http://live.reuters.com/Event/Unrest_in_Egypt

Latest entry: "Al Arabiya says Mubarak will say he will transfer powers to Vice President Suleiman according to the constitution"

Ugh.
