Reuters live blog:

Reactions to Mubarak’s speech flooding in on Twitter:

Blogger Sandmonkey: “People are going crazy in the street. We are joining them.”

Matthew Cassel: “Tonight or tomorrow, Tahrir is not big enough to contain this rage.”

I've been worried from the beginning that this would get ugly. Think about it -- Mubarek represents the elites, he's got 70 billion dollars and represents the United States MIC, Israel, the CIA, everybody that actually runs things.

They can't just let this go without a fight.

I don't mean to be pessimistic, but I think this is the first of many of these, the first real test, this will tell whether we end up enslaved by the elite PTB who hold all the money, all the technology, all the surveillance, and all the police power, or whether we actually put these evil evil overlords in their place.

Evil people don't just give up power, you have to take it from them, physically.

Where is Mubarek right now? Does anyone even know? Is he in one of Cheney's bunkers? Is he even in Egypt?

Mubarek is just a puppet, he represents the true PTB. The only way this is going to end well is if this revolution spreads around the world and all the people who control all the puppets are forced into hiding or killed.

Let's see how that dire prediction plays out ........

Even if they want to hand over Egypt, give it up completely (yeah, right), they're not gonna let it happen easily. It's not gonna be like "hey, there are millions of angry unarmed people in the street! Let's just hand the country over to them! Let's make them HAPPY!"

No. Why should they? They're gonna do everything they can to wear them down, to outlast them, to try to cut meaningless deals, etc etc.

Don't mean to be pessimistic, I'm just calling it like I see it.

These people are EVIL. There's only one way to deal with them.

That's what frightens me, Alice. Peaceful as it may be, this will provide the army an incentive to step in and take over power in order "to restore the rule of law."

The next 12 or so hours should determine which way the army will go. Let's pray they are with the people.

Well, that was Nixonian... A disconnect from reality, self-pity, desperate clinging to power, total disinterest in the legitimate grievances of the people, arrogance, inappropriate focus on self... the woiks.

People in Alexandria are apparently marching towards the Egyptian Northern Command.

One thing should be certain: Mubarak's done. Stick a fork in him.

Sounds like people are marching on to the TV station downtown and the presidential palace. Prepare for ugliness...

I feel like a big mothership is gonna drop down in the middle of all this...

Mubarak made it very clear that he is disobeying "orders" or "commands" by not stepping down.

EDIT: And Obama seemed certain that he would.

Yes, seconded. Where is el Baradei? Who are the avant-garde of the demonstrators?

AJ "There is total silence from Washington. It's like tumbleweeds..."
Hahahahaha Werd.

Obama needs to demand Mubarek to stay in power. Then Mubarek will resign with a "You wont tell ME what to do!!" speech.

Vice Pres giving veiled threats and fascist language.
"Door still open for further dialogue"
Wrapping self in flag blah blah. Capital talking points. Preservation of property etc etc

Utter crap.
His dead eyes and ice cold voice belies his flower strewn words.
"Let's join hands! Dont listen to the satellite stations! They are about sedition!

Fuck, this guy sounds like Franco.

Im sure he is up for a TienanMen if he needs to.

Suleiman speaking now, affirming Mubarak's blather.

They're playing for time, to get a handle on their slipping power. Tactically, the demonstrators should not afford them this time; the classic march on the palace might be the only thing left. Can a million people be stopped?
