The .gif was created by a mod (Skeptic Overlord) over at ATS and posted in
this thread. I'm not sure it's anything other than frames grabbed from Vid 4 and converted to gray-scale. It's a monster thread (185 pages) with back and forth from a few who claim experience with CGI, video production etc. This particular effort shows that there is indeed a light reflection cast on the Dome of the Rock as well as a revealing of detail in dark places illuminated during the flashes.
Although many have made great effort to demonstrate how these video's -could- be created through manipulation, there really hasn't been what we could call a definitive smoking gun admission of hoaxing by those who've posted them. The consensus seems to be that until they actually come forward with the details (camera type/setting, etc) and the original capture footage, a definitive analysis is impossible. There is also the fact that, so far, no other witnesses have come forward to corroborate the sighting.
A few thoughts...
There are three videos in question and one that was an obvious hoax (which does not include the flashes). The fourth video was posted with two versions, one of which has now gone private or has been removed -the long version, and is the best in quality and detail. A -lot- of detail, such as including the reflection on the dome and the illumination of darker areas during the flash. It also includes what appears to be some form of ejected plasma (or something..who knows what) from the object during the flash. This, if hoaxed, required some effort and I can't quite understand the motivation to post up both the long and short version, which only gave the analyst more ammunition in picking it apart - including the names of some of those filmed in the video. I mean, why bother with that if it is indeed hoaxed? Why bother with so much detail? Why bother including the ejection of whatever from the object? I have many other "why bother" questions.
One thing I was going to share earlier on and still find interesting to me personally is that I have personally witnessed two aspects of the fourth video that are somewhat arcane. The first is the flash. Back in the mid 70's I had an nightime experience with this type of intense light while driving down a deserted rural highway in a VW Bug with my father. Imagine that intensity going off right in front of you and then imagine every molecule in your body vibrating, buzzing...here is a description of this experience posted by another experienced person...
I have never been hit by lightening. But if I could imagine what it would feel like, I would say it was like this. It felt as if I had first been punched by a huge, electric fist, right in the gut. The burning, electrical feeling slowly moved down my legs to my feet, out my arms to my fingertips and around my head. Then, I could feel every molecule of my body vibrating. I couldn't move. And I couldn't see because the flash was so bright. I know I could not have tolerated more than a few seconds of this but I swear it felt as if this lasted for several minutes. I assume it couldn't have lasted more than a few seconds. I remember thinking, "I'm DEAD! This is what it feels like to die." I was shaking and burning and I felt like I was vibrating to my very core. The brightness wore off fast. Then, the vibrating and shaking subsided. But I still couldn't move. ~

I felt this exact thing. The next thing and only detail I remember from this experience is looking out the passenger side window of the car and realizing we we not on solid ground anymore. FWIW...
The second aspect of the forth video I experienced was witnessing "infinite acceleration", the departure of the object. During the same time frame (mid 70's) same highway, same vehicle, I recall waking up in the car and realizing we were parked alongside the road. This was very early morning with the sun just coming up. As I realized we were parked, I looked across the highway (to the west) and notice two objects hovering over a butte about a mile away. I watched them for a few seconds and then then they simply accelerated and took off. I could tell that they didn't just blink out but rather simply went from 0-10,000MPH in the blink of an eye. In fact, if you blinked, it would have appeared that they just disappeared. The last odd thing I can share about this event is disticntly remember thinking to my self, "See you guys later". That's it. So a question. Why bother hoaxing this? Why not just make the object blink out, as this is the more commonly witnessed behavior of sighted UFO's. Why add this if you knew that you used some effect that might be easily detectable as an obvious video effect. I am really curious.
So I find the inclusion of these two aspects of my own personal experiences included in these videos to be quite interesting. Again, a bit arcane. If a hoax, whoever created it included details recognizable in UFO literature recognized by very few people. Here's a bit of a conundrum. Let's hypothesize for a moment that these video's represent a real UFO event. Can we truly know the nature of the flashes/light this objected seemed to generate? I'm reminded of this:

Maybe the explanation for the lack of witnesses close to the dome comes from the possibility that the light it was a "Flash of Forgetfulness". I'm just throwing this out there....if a true event, we simply can't know what the nature of this light might be, how it might effect people or video technology.
Anyways...this is one of two things. The greatest UFO event ever filmed or the greatest UFO video hoax ever perpetrated.

ETA - One other detail I can include wrt my experience in this particular VW Bug. In the late 70s (79 I think), I visited my father who had moved back to the Olympia area in WA (the original events had occurred north of Spokane) I noticed he still had a VW bug, but the odd thing was, this particular VW had an even coating of thick brown rust in every area where paint should have been. It was if the vehicle had been painted with rust. It was totally even as well, no heavy or light areas of rust. I asked him if this was the same VW he had a few years ago (which was white at the time). He said it was. I asked him how it had gone from white to an even thick brown rust. He replied it was an "art project". I have a suspicion that the vibrating light I experienced affected the paint on this vehicle and caused it to come off completely in all exposed areas.
