Not.

Also, nothing all that weird perhaps, but perhaps weird nonetheless. I would like to know why he moved a room over:

PKD's bible is on sale at Ebay.

The current bid is $6,500.00.

PHILIP K. DICK'S BIBLE WITH HOLOGRAPH NOTES

In 1974, science fiction legend Philip K. Dick experienced a tremendous religious vision and revelation. Renowned cartoonist R. Crumb even illustrated this formative episode in Dick's life (The Religious Experience of Philip K. Dick, which you may find online). Others have written about Dick's religious transformation, but none, to my knowledge, has consulted this volume.

Condition: Very minor wear as seen in photo; book's spine is slightly cocked; bookstore label attached within; otherwise very good.

*****NOTE: I did not expect this listing to go "viral," and I have revised the text, as follows, in order to clarify the most frequently asked questions:

I bought this Bible from Ken Lopez, Bookseller in 1994. I will state this fact on my letterhead -- I am an attorney -- and I will provide this to any purchaser. The Bible was listed as item number 215 in the following catalog: Philip K. Dick: A Collection, Ken Lopez, Bookseller (Jan. 1994) and was cataloged thusly:

"215. The New English Bible, New Testament. Oxford University Press, 1963. 212th printing. Dick's copy, with holograph notes on the front flyleaf concerning, among other things, the Resurrection, gnosticism, and the casting out of devils. Bookstore label front pastedown; else very good. Laid in are two sheets of paper, one of which lists ten Greek words Dick saw while in a "hypnagogic state," the other of which has a few notes taken during a conversation. An interesting volume."

This catalog and this description are archived on Mr. Lopez's website. Mr. Lopez has an international reputation as a rare book and manuscript dealer and is a member of the ABAA.

Please note: The two sheets of paper in the catalog listing above are NOT included with this purchase. Also, half of the writing in the photo above is covered in blue to prevent copying.

For a comparative example of Dick's handwriting, you may go to the official Philip K. Dick website; select "Exclusive Content" in the upper banner; select "Exegesis" in the drop-down menu; select "Page starting, 'There is another -- and...'"

Regarding my feedback, in order to list any item over $1000, eBay requires an extensive history and personal documentation -- which I provided -- allowing me to list items well above this threshold (please see my other items).

Regarding shipping, I can provide FedEx shipping, but the purchaser will bear FedEx shipping costs. Please note that FedEx does NOT insure unique items.

TERMS:

Because my sales are final, please ask all questions prior to purchasing any item. PayPal payment is required. Domestic shipping is by U.S. Priority Mail, flat rate medium box with delivery confirmation -- and it is free! International shipping is by International Priority Mail, flat rate medium box: $26.55 to Mexico or Canada; $43.23 to all other countries. (Note: I charge no handling or packing fees, only actual international postage costs.) Please note that the value declared on international customs forms will be the purchase price; international purchasers are responsible for any import duties or fees levied by their home country. By purchasing this item, you agree to these terms.

FYI - newly uploaded rare 2 hour interview with PKD...

Uploaded by LucidMaui on Oct 4, 2011

Philip K. Dick / Charles Platt interview 1979 Santa Ana

This interview is unbelievable. Mind-blowing or fucking; whichever term is more appropriate. There is a galvanizing-lucidity in these lost-words; a candid discussion about Phil's early life, a listing of literary inspirations, a melodious overture of bookish-plot-devices with a direct explanation of his overarching-reality-allusions, and an orthogonal mapping of his encounter with VALIS.

They could still get him out of office.
But instead, they want mass death.

yeah, quite the find :yay

Hopefully there's at least another couple such interviews out there to be unearthed.

I wonder if anyone's ever done comprehensive FOIA requests on PKD-related records.

The thing I most admire about PKD is that he strikes me as being so fearless. He seems to confront his own inner landscape with such intrepidity and tenacity to the degree that he actually inspires me.

Whether I fully agree with "this notion" or "that idea" specifically is almost of little consequence to me when taken against his own apparently inestimable courage and honesty.

Oops - Did not realize that an updated link had been added.

Great thread. Good excuse to out myself as an avid reader (since 1967) and collector of PKD books -- lots.

The Sutin bio is a great resource and good read.

Sorry to burst fan bubbles.

Mr. Dick was just another CIA-propelled novelist churning out decoy psyops with the right keywords and themes. woo.
I've checked out his product compared to real world. S.O.P.

There's even a cover-ass alleged memo from him to FBI claiming some bad guys wanted to force him to put keywords in his works but he wouldn't, ya see.

Hugh, reading PKD and the pedestrian study of gnosticism years ago is the only thing keeping me from telling you to fuck off. As in: I accept your theories and consider them by dint of much CIA priming and enabling through the vessel of one Philip K. Dick.

Perhaps he was "propelled" by the CIA. I hardly doubt he would disagree with that statement were he here.

Also, the above comment, is what we knew already. It's quite famous knowledge for those who dabble in the Dick (as it were) that he did in fact think he was being monitored and controlled by psychological operators.
