Pretty chap.

Not your squalid little hovel, Not interested in that, I like pretty things. Besides, who wants to provide personal information on here. It's not facebook, but still, anyone could be watching.

This is the market early in the morning:

Image

This one's interesting because you can see the wheely-bins, and I'm always curious about foriegn wheely-bins:

Image

This is the church, which is tall and not at all phallic:

Image

The town hall here, built by a namesake of mine, could even have been an ancestor, he was a corrupt eighteenth century priest who stole all the church's money to build a mansion for himself, which is now the registry office, built a street which was named after himself, and convinced the town to sell a lot of land which would now be very valuable to build this monstrosity:

Normal houses on a street:

Formerly the view from my window:

I didn't take any of these photos, but I now feel like getting out and taking some of my own...I am just about to (finally) leave my job at a photo lab for broader horizons, and I should get it done while I can still get my employee discount! Nothing like working at photo labs for 12 years to make you not want to pick up a camera!

This one is particularly odd, from right around the corner:

Cool idea for a thread. This might look a bit touristy because we usually only take the camera out when we do touristy things... And I don't have a single photo of a wheelie bin but they look just like the UK ones. Maybe they're imported.

Image
The classic view of Cape Town, looking south over Table Bay. This was taken from the ferry out to Robben Island. The peak on the left is called Devil's Peak. Apparently in Dutch it was originally Pigeons' Peak (Duiwenspiek) and it got corrupted to Duiwelspiek. Not long ago a Christian political party was lobbying to have it changed back saying it was bad for the city to have a mountain named after the Adversary. In the middle is Table Mountain, on the right Lion's Head and in the foreground Signal Hill, named for a gun that fires every day at noon. The British put it there so that the ships' captains in the bay could set their clocks and we kept it for vibe.

From the top of Devil's Peak.

Image
Cape Point. It feels like the end of the world when you're there, a lot more than the actual southernmost point of Africa which is at Cape Agulhas, just some rocks in the ocean.

I shot this a couple of nights ago while going out to dinner. The sun is behind me in the shot...reflecting off the lake.

There is a painting all up the wall of a house in the town centre, but there's a tree in front of it. It was all naked when I was young. Maybe there are ulstermen here who can post pictures of murals.

IanEye literally lives in a conspiracy theory. In fact, in a couple of them, by the looks of things. Devens has deepness, in the realms of the creepness.

I don't know about amazing, but here's a little tour of recent murals around my place.

This is my friend Weirdo's giant mural of salmon, what he calls his "organs" and some whack graffiti writing.

Image

If you pop into the Saloon thread now and then you may have read that my city recently condemned a rather famous artist building in my neighborhood. We had a little festival last weekend and the graffiti kids painted right on the wall.

Image

I sat and watched them from outside the IRL Saloon.

Image

Then I thought I saw something growing up one of the billboard support columns.

Image

I decided to chase it, so I got a ladder.

Image

Then I expressed my feelings about the fate of the building.

Image

It was a blast! I want to do more graffiti.

I am so digging this thread I want to grab my camera and go get some of the shots I've been meaning to get for a couple of years now. Can't do it now, though, it's late at night, and dark! :)

The Obama mural I posted is from a pet store around the corner from me here in Los Angeles. The woman holding up the fish is from the Peterson Car Museum, and the 666 in the alley is just some random alley where I happened to be shooting one day.
