So then it suddenly seemed very important to go online and tell people (online), in all-caps and in no uncertain terms, how important it is to get offline. Made perfect sense at the time.

I don't know, Mac. Given that the internet has turned out to be the greatest surveillance tool ever conceived, your recommendation to "get offline" makes a hell of a lot of sense.
