You're not saying she's 64 years old, are you? She's 53.

Everything I know about Madonna and the Kabbalah Center I learned from compared2what? - I recommend a search of her posts on these topics in General Discussion for starters.

Barracuda, if you could point to a single piece of evidence of this that might be most convincing, what would it be? Or, if an inductive approach is most appropriate, can you please outline the most basic basics of this, which you find most convincing?

You know what? My bad.

I thought you were talking about a cult that is expressly Satanic — not just a (still non-benign) collection of rich, wide-eyed dupes that are getting teh enlightenment.

So, I agree. And thanks.

Madonna's been a member of at least two "serious" cults, and she ditched both of them. If the term has any meaning at all--and I'm inclined to think not--the willingness and ability of the cult-inclined to enter and leave them with such abandon speaks ill of their vaunted mind control abilities.

When did she leave Kabbalah? Unless you don't consider Kabbalah a 'serious' cult?

Unless she's left in the last thirty days, she's still under their thumb. They''ve had their hooks in her for around twenty years now, which I'd say speaks pretty well of the variety of psychological control techniques they work with.

As to whether their bastardisation of the kabbalah is "satanic" in some way, I'm honestly not qualified to say, and in all likelyhood anyone who is would not be saying much of anything, because it's a cult, with all the appurtenances thereto. It does, however, seem to feature the usual stripping of fortunes, bilking sick people of their life savings, selling useless quack potions to cancer and AIDS sufferers, destroying families, and defrauding people, but these days I guess that's par for the course for most capitalist ventures, public or private.

Her going to the center doesn't say that to me. It's probably more meaningful than my visit to the Vatican. But...

A couple of additional comments re: the last 12 hours or so of posts.

1) If I had the power to conduct a mass public ritual (and I was intent on ruling the world in some capacity) then I would, if possible, use a venue such as the Superbowl, under the auspices of "entertainment". As far as I'm concerned, there is no meaningful distinction between a magickal ceremony/operation and a show.

2) Do I think Madonna designed this particular ritual? She may have had a hand in stylistic elements, but if (as I suspect) it is an operation with a specific purpose, then I would tend to believe that the outlines were dictated to her.

3) I don't believe in Satanism, except for the sects that explicitly identify as such (e.g. LaVey's outfit). This is something much older, something that has no direct orientation to Christianity. This ritual/performance/operation is not about invoking "The Devil" per se, it is using specific symbolism to achieve a specific effect regarding its target's orientation towards the material world. The target being us, the American public. Banishing? Maybe, but I doubt it. What I would expect the old families (or at least some of them) want is to draw us further into the materialist mindset, shutting down more doors/avenues of escape.

My 2c.

Basically, I feel that any "distancing" Madonna has done from the Kabbalah Centre of late is likely just P.R. in response to the recent federal grand jury and IRS investigations. But I'm not sure I want to bother trying to generate the hive consensus here. Being right about it just isn't that important to me. There are literally hordes of blue journalists, scandal mongers and paparazzi furiously scuttling around for the inside poop regarding this aging pop star's cult affiliations at any given moment, and I have little interest in delving into their pablum to sell you on my personal perspective. For better or worse, that's where the real research is. Go ahead and wade into it if you think I'm mistaken. I'd love to think she has managed to escape their clutches, because being controlled by a cult has got to be a terrible thing. But I doubt that she has.

Generally speaking, do people usually escape from cults only to continue hauling the kiddies out to the meetin' place of a Saturday morn? Occam's Razor somehow seems appropriate in this case.

Agree with slomo on this one. It looked, felt, veritably smelled like a ritual working. The arrogant contempt for the wage slave was palpable. Have they decided it's time we back our shit down and this is their way of invoking infernal spirits to do the job? Whatever the intent of the ritual it was massively ambitious.

OK, I have to admit that my previous opinions were based on photos and secondary commentary. I decided that was a little intellectually sloppy, so I decided to actually watch the entire performance.

Now I'm doubly convinced that this was an occult operation. The final words at the climax of the performance:

Life is a mystery, everyone must stand alone
I hear you call my name
And it feels like home

Don't forget these lyrics:

I hear your voice, it's like an angel sighing
I have no choice, I hear your voice
Feels like flying
I close my eyes, oh God I think I'm falling
Out of the sky
, I close my eyes
Heaven help me

That's the memetic payload. This is a love poem to Lucifer, and an exhortation to descend further into materiality.

LUV Madonna YOU ya wanna?

(Recall Madonna = Baphomet according to the symbolic associations set up at the start of the ceremony.)

My only question is, why now?

Back in her heyday, nobody told Madonna what to do. She was in control of every aspect of her shows.

Now? Who knows, but its difficult for me to reconcile that portrait, painted by a lot of people who worked directly with her, with the notion that today she's out there being someone's puppet.

But maybe someone offered her a fountain of youth. Not that it worked.
