Yeah, looks like they REALLY want to find this guy, and fast.

Sounds like he's "gone rogue".

And we just had that story about the guy who abducted those 2 girls who shot himself in the head when confronted by the cops.

Are we having a Farenheit 451 moment? I am sure America's Most Wanted is on the case, so I sleep easy.
all these dreams are swept aside
By bloody hands of the hypnotized
Who carry the cross of homicide
And history bears the scars of our civil wars

Stephen Ivens, Missing FBI Agent, May Be Armed, Suicidal (VIDEO)

BURBANK, Calif. — Law enforcement officers in Southern California searched in rugged mountain terrain for a second day on Sunday for a missing FBI agent who was said to be despondent and possibly suicidal.

About 100 FBI agents, 40 sheriff's department rescuers and a dozen local police officers participated in the search for Los Angeles-based Special Agent Stephen Ivens. He was described as an avid hiker and runner.

FBI Special Agent Steve Gomez said dogs had tracked Ivens' scent toward the Verdugo Mountains, east of Burbank, but searchers have fanned out throughout Los Angeles County.

Ivens, 35, was last seen by family members Thursday evening, authorities said. He left his Burbank home the next morning on foot and had not been seen since, FBI officials said at a news conference. His wife reported him missing Friday at 7:30 a.m.

Ivens was distraught and authorities fear he may have harmed himself, according to KABC-TV. Officials did not say why Ivens was distraught.

A search of his home did not turn up his handgun and police believe he may have taken it with him.

Ivens was described by FBI colleagues as well liked. He is a devoted agent with no history of disciplinary action on the job, according to FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller.

Married with a one-year-old child, he has been working for the FBI for the past three years in the national security area. Prior to that, he worked as a Los Angeles police officer for eight years.

Gomez told reporters that foul play was not suspected and Ivens was not believed to pose a threat to others.

What justifies so wide and intensive a search? The answer is: nothing we've been told in the story. So there must be something else. Aside from the mystery of the man's disappearance, the other remarkable yet entirely too common feature of the story is its own construction. Here we have a story, in print, which not only leaves out any record of a desire by the journalist to find out the actual basis for the actions the article describes, but does not address the question in any fashion whasoever. As written, what we have here is an illegal search, or at minimum a highly questionable use of federal resources. The man may have very good reason for his actions. But how would any reader be able to make up their own mind about things based on what's been written here?

No one who is merely despondent or distraught produces this sort of response. And you have to love the "who was said to be" possibly suicidal comment. Who said it? A competent professional? We have a man who is reported to be well liked, devoted, and with no disciplinary history, but some unnamed person says he's "possibly suicidal" and a manhunt begins?

What's the lawful basis for 140 law enforcement officials searching for a man who "was not believed to pose a threat to others"??? Were they volunteering to search? If they were searching while on duty, again, at a time when government budgets are strained to the breaking point, what justifies a search that will cost hundreds of thousands of dollars at minimum per day to conduct?

When question like this aren't even raised in the report, it says way more than what's left out.

So he works in counterterrorism. Given the massive response, going rogue looks like a real possibility.

CNN) -- A search continued early Monday for a missing FBI agent from Burbank, California, whom authorities have described as suicidal and possibly carrying a handgun.

"There is no evidence of foul play right now, but that is why we still have a robust effort to locate him," Burbank Police Capt. Dennis Cremins told CNN affiliate KCAL over the weekend.

Stephen Ivens, 35, was last seen by family Thursday night, a police statement said.

"There is a handgun unaccounted for from inside his residence. There is no indication he is or has been involved in any criminal activity," the statement said. "The police department is concerned for his well-being."

Bloodhounds tracked him in the area of the Verdugo Mountains, police said. Capt. Mike Parker described it as "an area that has really rough terrain."
Ivens, a white male, is 6 feet tall, weighs approximately 160 pounds and wears prescription glasses, police said. He is described as having brown hair with a receding hair line and brown eyes.

Ivens is a special agent with the FBI and is assigned to the agency's Los Angeles division.

"He worked in national security type cases -- counterterrorism," FBI agent Steven Gomez told KCAL. "That's all I can really say about his casework."

I wonder why this agent is not suicidal,eh?

It sounds like they let him retire before filing charges against him so he could collect his pension.
