I wonder if this one

Postby Rigorous Intuition » Sun Aug 07, 2005 11:39 pm

will get moved to the "Meeting Room" too, which DU admin seems to treat as a psychiatriac teaching institute. A very long and interesting UFO thread got moved there a few days ago.

I was going to chime in with a think-outside-the-extraterestrial-box exortation, but I was sounding like a broken record to myself, and who can listen to one of those?

Will Pitt

Postby robertdreed » Sun Aug 07, 2005 11:40 pm

If he's going to talk about UFOs, he should take it over to RI, where people are more up on it.

I read Pitt all the time...

Postby marykmusic » Mon Aug 08, 2005 2:36 am

...on truthout.org. He was, for a short time, my favorite (Kucinich)candidate's press liaison last year.

I started a UFO thread, with the John Lear interview and other writings of his. Dragon, my husband, has seriously studied UFOlogy for over 40 years. Me, not so long... but there were several strange, unexplained pregnancies 20 years ago or so, that never got more than a few months along... when my family lived and cowboyed on remote NM ranches. --MaryK

Pitt's a good writer but he can be a real asshole

Postby maggrwaggr » Mon Aug 08, 2005 3:04 am

and I find he really enjoys being the Big Fish in the pond of DU.

That being said, I still read his stuff sometimes. He's good at what he does.

At the same time, I can only laugh at this point when I see people stuck on the three-dimensional "reality" of the universe ("they'd have to travel at light speed for YEARS!")

If Pitt hadn't assisted in my badjacketing I would probably love him. But he refused to come to my defense and piled on, claiming I sounded like another freep-type disruptor named TLBShow and he thought I might be him (and this was AFTER I sent him all my bona fides and exposed my identiuty to him so he could verify it). This made me VERY leery of Pitt.

So I won't generally even read him now except to see where he is at occasionally.

My battle with him came over Gore vs. Kerry and whenever somebody takes the Skull and Bones side I get creeped out. That was okey-dokey for Pitt. Skull meant nothing. To me it speaks volumes.

Never ever trusted kerry. Fought hard for him in the election after the primaries, but feel like we were all hoodwinked by another great Skull Skam by the BFEE in Kerry.

Kinda feel the same way about Hillary.

I'd love to see a Gore-Dean ticket. Even Edwards Dean or voice versa.

My favorite would be Conyers and McKinney though if they could be made viable. Or Conyers Kucinich etc.

Dennis is the only one who talks about what's going on

Postby marykmusic » Mon Aug 08, 2005 10:32 am

In January of 2003, Dennis Kucinich proposed a Congressional bill to ban chemtrails and weather mod-as-a-weapon. He was very quickly shut up, but that showed lots of people that he was aware and not afraid to be on record.

As I campaigned for him, it was amazing (and frustrating) for people to tell me, "Well, he's wonderful but not electable..." Even my own mother voted for the Democrat in the primary that she thought had a chance to beat Bush. It had nothing to do with like or anything else (single-issue voting.)

My boys and I went to see him every time he came to Arizona, and were with him at the State House when he signed up for the primary. Small but loyal crowd...

Not meaning to hijack this thread, which is about Will Pitt, but some of the best writers and other creative types can unfortunately be total jerks. But his support for Dennis was impressive, and the writing he did at that time inspired. --MaryK

Unfortunately Pitt was a huge Kerry agent from the very beginning. His brief stint for Kucinich, as far as I could tell, helped Dennis not at all. I met Dennis and voted for him -- but never really believed he could beat the BFEE.

my exchange with Will Pitt

Postby manxkat » Mon Aug 08, 2005 2:00 pm

Here's a little exchange I had with Will Pitt on Truthout's forum in Marcy 2005. Amazingly, Mr. Pitt had cited the RI piece "How High's the Water, Mama?" which he called "an amazing piece of work." What struck me was that he found Jeff's work amazing, and this particular piece had that info about the former KGB agent who stated that Osama is still on the CIA payroll.

And because I'd never seen a Will Pitt piece that really questioned 9/11 in a big way, I decided to ask him about that. You can read his retort here:

forum.truthout.org/blog/c...7/5016/3#3

What struck me was how combative he was toward me, simply for politely asking his opinion about 9/11. He took the opportunity to get all defensive and huffy about people within the 9/11 truth movement, hence:

"Whenever I am engaged by a Truth Movement person via email, all too often that person is rude, aggressive, obnoxious and insulting both in tone and word. I don't know if it is frustration, but some of the biggest arseholes I've ever dealt with have been Truth Movement reps. It is a big peeve of mine. Not all of them, mind you, but a lot.

If you are wondering why a lot of 9/11 Truth data doesn't make it into the mainstream media, look within to your own crew. If I were a NYT journalist and was given a budget of data by someone who proceeded to swear at me like a sailor on shore leave, dollars to donuts I'd ignore both the person and the data."

What got me was his overreaction and complete typecasting of the entire 9/11 truth movement, lumping ME into that category as well, just for asking a question. He's certainly got a chip on his shoulder, and I can't help but wonder why. Is 9/11 truth a threat to him? One can speculate forever on why people like Will Pitt on the left seem to scoff at conspiracies.... the whole left gatekeeper phenomenon.... but who knows? I can't imagine any rational defense of his statement that "I have heard all the arguments and seen all the evidence, and I am just not sold" when it comes to any sense of a 9/11 conspiracy. That's completely illogical to me. My sense is that he really can't have seen all the evidence, but that's he's shut down on this topic (the mother of all fires the left is trying to put out).

I still read Will Pitt's columns and enjoy his point of view, although I still think he's somewhat unrealistic at times -- like in a recent article where he seems to think the 2006 election gives the people a chance again. I'd like to think that's true, but given the overwhelming evidence of election fraud, I can't be nearly that optimistic. We need a new kind of politics and a revolution to kick it off. Anyway, sorry for the rant..... this stuff builds up inside from time to time!

Is Pitt tone-deaf to writing styles?

Postby Ferry Fey » Mon Aug 08, 2005 2:04 pm

"But he refused to come to my defense and piled on, claiming I sounded like another freep-type disruptor named TLBShow and he thought I might be him (and this was AFTER I sent him all my bona fides and exposed my identiuty to him so he could verify it)."

That's utterly asinine, and you can quote me on that if necessary. I'm sorry I didn't know about that at the time, I would have been able to give you some support on the issue of whether you were TLBShow.

I originally know both you and TLBShow from the Capitol Grilling board, and there is no way whatsoever that the two of you could be confused. In fact, I doubt that there is anyone that could be confused with TLBShow. They broke the mold with that guy.

While I don't usually find any gap between Pitt's
general political views and mine, after hearing about this episode I don't think I would ever trust his assessment of nuances of written online "voice." That is just too bizarre.

BFEE=Bush Family Evil Empire

It covers the baddies from the families related to Bush by blood, marriage and money: the Walkers, Harrimans, Rockefellers, the Union bank, Dulleses, Skull and Bones, CIA blackops off the shelfers, Halliburton, Carlyle, the Nazis and their backers then and now, Saudi fascists, PNAC, Sharon fascist Likudniks, Moon, et al.

And remember, not everyone is actually related to the Bush family. There are also the Clintons, the Rockefellers, you name it. It perhaps needs a more all-encompassing acronym.

I personally prefer TPTB, the old classic The Powers That Be (also the title of an eye-opening book detailing the history of several major media operations.) --MaryK
