Oh, that's what you meant by hijacked. It's only one mouse click, I believe, to set an image as wallpaper. IHowever, I just messed with it and right clicking on the background image doesn't give me that option, though I'm using a Linux OS...it usually works the same way.

Try this, before you get too concerned. Right click on the background image on the forum. See what comes up in the menu box. If you can then, with one click, set the image as wallpaper, you probably just did that accidentally.

Because you visit here frequently, the image is also in your cache, but it would be harder to accidentally somehow get that image set as your wallpaper. So it's a little odd.

I don't know about the missing thread. I can't think why that one would be targeted for any reason. And I don't remember reading your post concerning it. Not that you didn't post...just that it's possible no one noticed. Did you try searching for it? Which discussion board was it, one or two?

Just noticed that ALL of Open Discussion One is gone. I don't know if this is by design. Many of the threads were moved to the subtopics, though I'd be impressed if he got them all moved.

Edited by: Dreams End at: 8/27/05 10:48 am

It was at the top of the page under open discussion thread for a couple of weeks, robertdreed commented on it, I followed up. The page was showing an error message. Check just behind green crow's post.

The collage I already had in my computer because Jeff had sent it to me as a jpeg or something before I started posting here. The background keeps re-setting itself, that's why I call it a hijack.

I wasn't threatening anyone with violence but I was responding with some heat to a personal attack, and it was precisely those few lines in the middle of the body of text which disappeared, which makes it weird--I mean, I can see the possibility of my inadvertantly deleting something randomly with a clumsy keystroke, but it wasn't like that at all.
Anyway, I don't want to give this phenomenon any more power over me by dwelling on it, I'm just gonna let it go.
But it's weird

guinea-pigs and Asian callers?

Postby Sokolova » Sat Aug 27, 2005 2:06 pm

Don't want to get in the way of the other discussion, which is obviously a worry for those it's happened to, but does anyone else have any perspectives on my weird phone call?

Anyone know if Asian people figure largely in telesales?

Anyone ever had a similar experience of being called repeatedly by gents with heavy Asian acccents who sound very far away?

Anyone ever been told they have a guinea pig waiting? I do have some background in alternative politics, but I don't think we are being bugged. Messed with - maybe. The experience of yesterday has made that seem a little possible.

But messed with by what? Any help or suggestions?

Ellie

GDN01 - I've had stuff pop in and out of existence most of my life, didn't think it was ghosties though. The worst is when you're looking right at the spot when something comes back and you second-guess if it was there the whole time.
I figure it happens all the time all over, we just don't notice it until we're actually looking for an object that we need. Then it shows up from minutes to weeks later.

I've found that candles help keep it to a minimum.. anything that makes a single steady flame seems to help. Maybe if it's ghosties it gives them a light to go toward.. but I have more scientific ideas on it.

First thing that came up with google is a controversy over a guinea pig farm closing a couple of days ago. Just happens to be in England...Staffordshire. They provided the animals for research and animal rights activists got it shut down. It evidently got real nasty with death threats to the owner. So my first question would be...are you involved in any animal rights activities?

Quote:

news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_ne...176094.stm

Targeted guinea pig farm closes
John Hall
The Hall family said they would return to traditional farming
A farm that has been breeding guinea pigs for medical research for more than 30 years is to stop after intimidation by animal rights activists.

The family-run Darley Oaks Farm in Newchurch, Staffordshire, has been hit by a six-year campaign of abuse.

The owners and people connected with the firm have received death threats.

The family said they hoped the decision would prompt the return of the body of their relative Gladys Hammond, whose remains were stolen from a churchyard.

I just feel so angry that these animal rights activists have won
Rod Harvey, former farm supplier

Groups react to decision
Send us your comments

The remains were taken from her grave in nearby Yoxall in October.

Mrs Hammond, who was buried in St Peter's churchyard seven years ago, was the mother-in-law of Christopher Hall, part-owner of the farm.

In a statement, a close relative of Mrs Hammond, who declined to be named, said there was now no reason why her body could not be returned.

"Gladys was a relative of the Halls by marriage only and had no involvement in guinea pig breeding.

"She was a kind, gentle country lady who loved animals. Sorry Ellie, I didn't mean to derail discussion of your phone calls--imagine we're all sitting in a coffee shop with lots of conversations going on at once--we can juggle separate topics without leaving anyone out.
It's a long way from "Do you have Prince Albert in a can?" but they sound like prank calls to me (damn kids). When the caller said it was "the pet shop" calling, is there any such place in your area called "The Pet Shop"? Any legitimate pet store would give their name, don't you think?

Guinea Pigs and Ghosties

Postby GDN01 » Sat Aug 27, 2005 3:06 pm

Sokolova - one thing I wondered, and it's just an odd thought - nothing to base it on, what if your caller thinks you are someone else? This call sounds like a coded message or communication. Maybe the caller has the wrong number and doesn't realize it! Sounded to me like a drug deal message - "your package" is ready. And maybe the frustration was that you should know what the guinea pig is!

A few years back, I was getting phone messages from some poor guy who was trying to mend a broken relationship. He would pour his heart out in the phone message and beg for the woman he thought he was calling to call him back. After a couple of these, I called him to let him know he was calling the wrong number. He was very embarrassed.

Maybe this caller needs to be vague with whoever he thinks he is calling, and can't figure out why the callee isn't responding as they should. If there is another call, I suggest you say something like - I don't know who you are, or why you keep calling but it's clear that you have the wrong number, and any further communication from you will be turned over to the authorities.

ZeroHaven - if it was just one item, I would think I was overlooking it or something explainable. But it's hard to overlook a set of keys and two shoes IN the bed you just slept in, wrapped up in the blanket that had been spread out and covering you all night! I'll try the candles!

GDN01,

I'm only an expert on my own experiences, not on anybody else's. But, your ghostie just sounds mischievous to me. And, even if she wasn't trying to save your life this time, I wouldn't be surprised if she really does like you in her own special way. She may have even just wanted you to stay home for the day so she could be near you.

Personally, I wouldn't be too harsh in such a case, but it sounds like you do need to set some boundries. However you do that is up to you. If you just follow your intuition, I have a strong feeling whatever you do will work. Just don't waste your money on new age store gimmicks. Find your own sacred stones if that's what you need. Talking to her is probably more than sufficient though.

If you need a way to be sure when she's around, here's a hint. You said earlier these experiences make you feel fear. Something I learned for myself that I have a hunch is true for you too is that mixed in with all of those physical sensations you get when you feel fear is the tell that there's an entity about. It has probably been so closely associated with fearful experiences for so long you feel afraid even when you feel it by itself. When you realize what it is, you should be able to separate the two and use it to sense when you're not alone. Learn to tune it a bit, and you'll even know what kind of presense is near.

I hope that helps.

Re: Guinea Pigs and Ghosties

Postby GDN01 » Sat Aug 27, 2005 4:38 pm

Iroquois - I agree with your assessment. While I've said other paranormal experiences have been frightening, I didn't mean to include this one. I think I did write initially that I've never felt threatened by this ghost, or felt that she is sinister. My kids are frightened by her though, and both have had their own experiences.

I feel like she is trying to communicate something - especially after she brought me a cell phone! I still have no idea who it belongs to and probably never will.

I rent this home, and the previous renter left suddenly. She is a single mom, like me, and her son is much younger than my children. She had been here only a few months and was in the middle of redoing the interior of the house - painting all the rooms and papering some of the walls. She left with it almost completed - just needed to put vent covers back on, add the molding back to the walls, etc. And she had been doing this in exchange for rent, so she lost money on it. The landlord mentioned how she had called and announced she was moving with no explanation and had been gone in a week. I've wondered if the house ghost had something to do with her leaving.

Maybe I should try holding that old dead cell phone to my ear - and see if she communicates through it!

Thanks guys.

The guinea-pig farm is curious and I was involved in animal rights a little, but that was years ago, so I'm thinking it probably has nothing to do with it.

The prank idea seems reasonable -except it's the same Asian voice that's been calling for months and as pranks go those calls are just non-starters. They just ask to speak to either my husband or me, and then begin some very long drawn out indistinguishable kind of spiel. They seem to be telesales type of thing, only the people have such heavy accents it's hard to distinguish what they are saying.

The idea of it being a code of some kind is intriguing. The guy reacted with veiled impatience, as if he expected me to understand (another reason why it doesn't seem like a prank). Maybe that's it. But I still don't know how that would fit in with all the other calls.

Anyhow much thanks again for the feedback

Ellie

The code idea may be right...but to continue calling you after so many attempts have failed? I don't think it's a mistake. I think you have definitely put this incident in the right thread. It may not be explainable.

I would definitely try to decipher what they are saying if you keep getting calls. I find this very intriguing, actually and would love to keep informed about it. There was a whole thread on here about "weird phone calls" some time ago.

If the calls keep coming, keep track of time of day patterns as well, if there are any. Keep us up to date, if you care to.
