At this point, it simply seems eminently more probable to me that two or more simpletons crackpots set about to accomplish, and then indeed did accomplish, a terribly evil thing. For what reason? Well, who the hell knows... ("Crazy" doesn't always need a reason to do what it is.)

Can it really be surprising that violent crazies are being created with increasing frequency out of a culture that is itself violently insane?

Holy Shit to those pics above. If this ain't Martial Law, wtf is? What would happen if a resident pulled out of their driveway? Would they taze, arrest or just shoot?

Pretty horrifying that one guy with some homemade ied's can lock-down 400,000 people and bring out the full-battle-geared troops. The liberal boards have all become Authoritarian Lovers....bless them they're keeping me safe....stay inside to let these brave men do their job, etc. The right wingers are absolutely sure Obama is coming for their guns.

I just talked to a guy who went to get food, he passed a 6 man squad slowly moving through the street outside of his house. They just asked him if he's seen the guy, he said no, so he got in his car and went to get food.

FBI takes computer from NJ sister of bomb suspects

WEST NEW YORK, N.J. -- The FBI on Friday removed a computer from the New Jersey home of a sister of the Boston Marathon bombing suspects. Police said she was cooperating with the investigation and was "heartbroken, surprised and upset," though she told reporters she wasn't sure the accusations against her brothers were true.
Police in West New York, who did not immediately release the woman's name, cordoned off the three-story brick building across the Hudson River from New York City as federal agents remained inside.
Public records listed an Ailina Tsarnaev as living at the address.
The woman told agents that she had not been in contact with her brothers for years, said West New York Police Director Michael Indri, who confirmed she was a sister of the bombing suspects.
Speaking earlier through a crack in the door, the woman told News12 New Jersey and The Star-Ledger that she is sorry for the families that lost loved ones "the same way I lost my loved one."

Her brother Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 26, was killed overnight in a shootout with police outside Boston. Her younger brother remains at large.
"He was a great person," the woman said of her dead brother. "I thought I knew him. I never would have expected that from him. He is a kind and loving man. The cops took his life away just the same way he took others' lives away, if that's even true. At the end of the day, no one knows the truth."
"I have no idea what got into them," she said.
Indri said the woman was cooperating with the FBI.
"She's heartbroken, surprised and upset like we all are," he said.
A woman who described herself as a friend of Ailina Tsarnaev described a different relationship between the woman and the elder brother.
Vicki Colon, of Passaic, said the woman feared him because "he used to beat her."
Colon said she met the two brothers during a visit to Massachusetts a couple years ago. She said the younger brother was very quiet.
The sister last spoke to Colon on April 6, Colon's birthday. Colon said she saw a Facebook posting Thursday night that led her to believe the woman may not have known her brothers had been identified as suspects.
"It just said, 'God is great, I love my family,' basically," Colon said.

According to the website spotcrime.com, Tamerlan was arrested for domestic violence in July 2009, after assaulting his girlfriend. He was an amateur boxer, listed as a competitor in a National Golden Gloves competition in 2009.

A couple of things.... the younger brother has been described as a "star athlete" and had a regular game of soccer with his college classmates. However, wasn't the media pointing out his bowed leg in the surveillance video? Look at that video again. Isn't his walk strange? Is his right leg not significantly bowed out? Or is this just a mistake caused by bad video quality?

Of course, it's possible that the kid did have a minor disability, but still managed to play ball and wrestle. That's possible, just not what I expected.

Also, are some people still saying that this guy was trained? I don't see any evidence that the younger brother has received any professional training. He's been here for years and the press is not reporting that the younger brother ever traveled back overseas. Also, he's been in school non-stop for years, socially active, and even a "bit of a druggie" according to some reports (probably pot). He does not seem like any kind of professional at all.

The news is now saying that there was apparently "no accomplices" now, as evidenced by their desperate robbery of the 7-11 and their lack of escape plan. Well, wasn't he on the phone with SOMEBODY minutes after planting the bomb? It looks to me like they were expecting some help from someone higher up (hmmm, another government "informant"?) but their contact dried up as soon as the deed was done. They were suddenly on their own, clear to take the bullets, and the fall.

RE: martial law. I think that Boston police are just being aggressive and counting on public good will to go around any legality of their actions. To their credit, they just lost one of their own with the fallen campus officer, and another one was wounded. They are in revenge mode (thought not necessarily aiming to kill). Not to mention they've received how much money from DHS over the last decade to buy new military-grade vehicles and gear? Of course they are going to roll out the big toys. I wouldn't overreact to this yet. It's bad, but it may just be motivated by local human emotion... not grand strategy.

You may be right; still, correlation doesn't always imply causation. Since it's still so early in all of this, I think I need more facts — and some time to digest all of them — before I can feel honest in concluding that I really know too much of anything for certain.

Hmm. I'm trying to imagine how I might feel if I believed that some crazy bomber (who's already blown up a bunch of people, and murdered others) were hiding somewhere in my neighborhood, someone who probably still had explosives with him. And I'm pretty sure that I'd feel a real sense of relief to see those massive numbers of cops combing the area looking for the guy.
