it's possible they National Guard teams AND they work for Craft, does anyone know if people on those 'crisis response teams' (or whatever they're called) are FULL-TIME guard gigs or are they on-call/one-weekend-a-month positions?

At the very least they totally failed at their job. WTF good is special operations trained security and spotters if they arent surveiling and looking for people dropping suspicious packages?

Russia had wiretap on bomb suspect
Apr. 27, 2013 5:04 PM | 0 Comments

WASHINGTON — U.S. officials say Russian authorities secretly recorded a conversation in 2011 in which one of the Boston bombing suspects vaguely discussed jihad with his mother.

Officials say a second call was recorded between the suspects' mother and a man under FBI investigation living in southern Russia.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly about the ongoing case.

They say the Russians shared this intelligence with the U.S. in the past few days.

The conversations are significant because, had they been revealed earlier, there might have been enough evidence for the FBI to initiate a more thorough investigation of the Boston bombing suspects' family.

Yeah, that is way too much fear. Needless. If they were interested, they would be monitoring this board already. Google alert. Simple. You think a team of killers that sophisticated would neglect setting a Google alert? So, either they would already be watching and there's nothing new to fear, or they are not killers to be feared. (If that dichotomy should be undone and expanded, feel free.) What, however, if the ones who should be feared, are us, and what if the ones who feel the fear, is them? And yet, if that were the case, look at ourselves. Writhing in fear, of them. People, we are their bosses. If a government outsourced them to do anything, then we are their supervisors, we the People. If they are just National Guard, part-timers or full-timers, and if they had a chance to notice two creepy not-fun-having dudes drop a suspicious bulky backpack, and if it was just an epic failure, well, that would be sad, but they would still deserve some kind of public reprimand, at least as a lesson to other citizens and public servants in How Not to be Unobservant. But back to the scenario of them being cold-blooded killers, so what. If you royally piss off bad people by outing them as bad, and the next day or week you wind up inexplicably harassed or dead, fear not, because it would very much be explicable, to everyone, it would obviously be the bad people you royally pissed off, and so, that rarely happens, because it would backfire on them. Most criminal masterminds are not stupid. It would make no sense to harm the person who's accusing you of secretly being harmful, because then you'd be outing yourself as...harmful! So, we are ignored. Perhaps if any one of us draws too big a crowd, then we might get a second, dirtier look. Don't draw any interconnected octopus too big, don't write too big a book on this one really sore subject, don't write too many well-sourced articles about this one dirty thing they do. But again, what are they going to do, if we all do that? Secretly kill us all? Pfff, lol. Safety in numbers. Safety in transparency, too, believe it or not. Oh, you think you're really anonymous? [insert Willy Wonka anticipation] Problem is, if you try your best to be anonymous and then become un-anonymous to the wrong people, then you'll only remain anonymous to the right people, the people who act as insurance. That's kind of self-defeating, if the point is to forbid a worst case scenario. Also: If we're a threat to them, whoever they are, then they have much bigger problems. We are like fans at an NBA game taunting the opponent, but instead of coarse trolling, we are shouting out a well-researched and fine-tuned analysis of an individual opponent's tendencies and weaknesses, alerting the refs to the opponents' personal fouls and dirty tricks with detailed scouting reports and even pictures and diagrams. They can't just jump in the stands and punch us in the mouth. And if they do, it's liable to start a game-ending riot, with them forfeiting the game, the W ours, lol. Point is, relax. They have bigger worries. Savor the power, the power of being free to criticize and identify failure and cheating, from the safety of the stands. Maybe the other guys, our home team, will listen, take good advice, and put our rigorous intuition to good use. Maybe the bad guys will put it to use, yuck -- but by taking cues from us about which factoid or narrative is too easily impeached, and scrambling to improvise substitutions, they would only be digging themselves a deeper and more ludicrously recognizable hole, as they kind of seem to have done the last two weeks, lol. So, intuit and interpret and sleuth away, intuiters and interpreters and sleuthers! You can't plug holes in a rowboat with soft, runny bullshit. They did, and all that's left is determining exactly what kind of ordinary or exotic bullshit it is. Plus, they seem to have also fired bullets into the boat's bottom out of frustration. They're fucked, I think, they're now fated to be caught, relatively soon, in this generation at the latest, and they know it. They are probably just delaying long enough to rehearse their inevitable "Come to Jesus" moments, "Jesus" being all of the rest of us, We the People. Some people see things getting worse. I see things winding down, to a changing of the guard, and eventually to some varied but generally less violent type of a freer, fairer, less miserable existence. One can dream!

so this is exactly the kind of call we're told is routinely intercepted and spied on with "warrantless wiretapping"

Let the excusenation commence!

security standing right next to the bomb drops sees nothing! nothing!

a should have been tapped call... dropped!

All across the nation, nay the world... dots go unconnected...

Fertilizer plant with thousands of tons of dangerous poison explosive goes completely unnoticed and unregulated

space junk at the point where the continued existence of satellites are under serious jeopardy, while we do diddly about it

A nation lays itself off. jobs? we don't need no stinkin jobs?

Another solar manufacturer goes out of business. Why? American businesses refuse to buy their products (this goes for EVERY ONE of the failed solar industrial initiatives) even though most large businesses are making huge profit margins.

I could go on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on

It looks to me like the universe is giving final warning. We either stop accepting incompetent leadership or this story is coming to an end.

I have been having a similar train (wreck) of thought this week, too, JD.
Add to it the apathy of so many of my fellow humans and it makes a girl want to dig a hole and get in it.

"I Gave You All"

Rip the earth in two with your mind
And seal the urge which ensues with brass wires
I never meant you any harm
But your tears feel warm as they fall on my forearms

But close my eyes for a while
And force from the world a patient smile

And how can you say that your truth is better than ours?
Shoulder to shoulder, now brother, we carry no arms
And the blind man sleeps in the doorway his home
If only I had an enemy bigger than my apathy I could have won

But I gave you all
I gave you all
I gave you all

Close my eyes for a while
And force from the world a patient smile

But I gave you all
I gave you all
I gave you all

And you rip it from my hands
And you swear it's all gone
And you rip out all I had
Just to say that you've won

And you rip it from my hands
And you swear it's all gone
And you rip out all I had
Just to say that you've won, you've won
Well, now you've won

But I gave you all
I gave you all
I gave you all

That's not very fearless, lol.

Climb out of that hole. Don't even bother digging it.
Let them dig their own. Maybe they can be shamed into it?
(Figuratively! But they may have built their own jail cells, literally.)

Is this the same place?

Marathon has bought 2/3 of homes for open space around $2.2 billion Detroit refinery expansion
ASSOCIATED PRESS

DETROIT — Marathon Petroleum Corp. has bought two-thirds of the homes in an area of southwest Detroit where the oil company is carrying out a $2.2 billion expansion, a newspaper reported today.

The company announced in November 2011 that it wanted to create a buffer area between its growing refinery operation and residential areas. The area already had many vacant buildings and empty lots.

Marathon has bought 205 homes so far, according to The Detroit News, though it was unclear how much money the company had spent to purchase all of them.

The company began with a list of 296 homeowners, and 265 of them agreed to discuss terms for a possible sale. The company made offers to 258 of them.

Marathon has said that it's offering a minimum of $40,000 for owner-occupied homes.

According to Marathon spokesman Jamal Kheiry, the average appraisal has been about $16,000 and the company's average offer has been about $65,000.

“We consider it quite a success,” said Kheiry. “The whole project was an opportunity to give folks who wanted to move an opportunity to do so in an economically viable way.”

Above its minimum offer of $40,000, the company said it will pay the average of two appraisals, plus a premium bonus of 50 percent.

The company also is giving $5,000 allowances for miscellaneous expenses, $500 for owners to use for real estate advice and up to $1,500 in new mortgage assistance.

The view from Cristy Moore's front porch has changed markedly in the past year, including the demolition Wednesday of the house next to hers.

“Just in this part of the neighborhood, I'd say we've seen 20 to 25 homes knocked down,” Moore said. “It's like ghost town.”

Linda Chernowas and her husband said they had no intention of moving but changed their minds because of his health problems. The couple is moving to the nearby suburb of Taylor.

“This neighborhood now looks like a disaster area as far as I'm concerned,” Chernowas said. “Now when I leave to go to work on our new house and come back here, I don't know which buildings are still going to be standing and which will be gone.”

Police eye second car in Watertown shootout after Boston bombing

An NBC News investigation has established that Boston Marathon bombing suspects Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev used and then dumped a green Honda as well as the stolen SUV they used to lead police on a wild chase in Watertown, Mass. NBC's Michelle Franzen reports.
By Jamie Novogrod and Tom Winter, NBC News
Two cars, not one, appear to be at the center of the investigation into how the two brothers allegedly behind the Boston Marathon bombings carried out the fatal shooting of a police officer and the wounding of another during their final night rampage.

An NBC News probe over the past several days has established that the brothers used and then dumped a green Honda as well as a stolen SUV as they led police on a wild chase.
Massachusetts State Police, combined with local law enforcement, conducted a reenactment Thursday night at the scene of the April 18 shooting of Officer Sean Collier in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Key to that reenactment was a green Honda that appears to be the same car that was parked on Laurel Street, in Watertown, during the 200-round shootout there.

One brother, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, was fatally wounded and later pronounced dead; the younger brother, Dzhokhar, escaped police and eluded capture for around 16 more hours.
Police said the suspects drove a green Honda to the location where Collier was shot and killed at the MIT campus in Cambridge. That shooting set off a string of incidents that ultimately led to the shootout between the suspects and police in Watertown.
After the Cambridge shooting, the suspects carjacked a Mercedes 350 SUV at gunpoint, according to a federal affidavit. Both suspects rode in the SUV to Watertown, the affidavit says.
However, photographs obtained by NBC News and eyewitness accounts given to NBC News producers indicate that both a green Honda and black Mercedes SUV were parked at the scene of the Watertown shooting. Several people who were near the scene that night said the Honda was positioned behind the Mercedes.
