Only an educated guess, but I would venture a 'yes' in response to your query.

did you re-add it?

Most likely it got reset when I made changes to his account. We don't have a lot of experience with "foe lists" likely it's just an unexpected behavior of the system. Please re-add it.

ha ha..
yes, I re-added - but it was working and then not working, so I don't know when you made additional changes to his account but I guess it was after you fixed my problem, huh?

Here is the situation as I understand it. After Barracuda stepped down as moderator, he retained some privs. This was noticed last week and we made the necessary changes. As for rules, there are precious few around here, but one of them is to respect each other when we disagree. That one will continue to be enforced. We can't be in every thread, and we don't mind looking at reports. That's what we're here for. We won't always agree with or act on your report. And we may act when there is no report. If a situation tends to be self correcting, we let it go. By the time we step in, there have been plenty of opportunities for someone to do the right thing.

One of them, though, that is quite strictly enforced, is that no one accuse anyone else of 'editing their posts' after replies have been made (see the recent giant smackdown Mac got for doing just that in the Marathon thread.) In light of the fact that such accusations draw such ire *and* can result in bannings, either temporary or permanent, it is very important that everyone be on the same playing field in that regard or at least be aware that they are not and whom it is that has the sanctioned upper hand.

To wit - The person who is able to edit backwards in time can easily play sillybuggers with the truth and make his/her opponent (for lack of a better word) appear to be being unreasonable or stupid or 'crazy' or whatever they want them to appear as. The `opponent` therefore is in a virtually no win situation: if they say the person has edited the post they will risk being called out for breaking a rule but if they don`t say the post has been edited they are at a disadvantage in terms of their standing on the board for having been `made a fool of`` so to speak.

I truly hope that this will apply evenly to all persons posting. I have no reason to believe otherwise with the current group of moderators, but I just want to say that it`s an awful place to be when the rules are arbitrarily applied.

There is no such rule either in official or casual effect, and I know of no instance of a username being suspended or banned for suggesting such a thing. The fact is that Mac was simply wrong about that, and was pretty mildly chided for being so.

That eventuality seems to occur often enough without the possibility of back-editing, though. Oddly enough.

I should say that while the suggestion that someone edited their previous post to alter its meaning is not against the rules in and of itself the assertion that that person made an edit without the system registering a notation of the edit would be akin to claiming that someone was an 'agent' of some sort, which quite blatantly is against the rules.

and yet here we have seen that sometimes some people can do just that - so I thought it was important for me to bring up the matter in full view of the board.

for reference: (viewtopic.php?f=8&t=36290&start=15&p=499645&view=show#p499645)

and we have two other users who have had the same experience of barracuda or c2w's posts being edited without notation in the past week or so. I hadn't mentioned that that had happened to me before one of those users claimed it had happened to them.

Sorry guys, but I personally think it's worth it to get to the bottom of this, and barracuda is not content to admit the wrongs and move on, he has to try and dismiss it and use semantics and hair splitting to make it seem like it's no big deal. Well, it is a big deal and if you'll think about it for a minute you'll understand why.

It's not possible for me to edit posts without leaving an edit time stamp on them. I've never lied about whether or not I'd written something, or cheated in some equivalently petty way in the whole of my time on the board. Ever. It practically wouldn't even be possible for me to commit that particular kind of bad act even if I did have some magic superpower that enabled me to. Because the idea of doing it wouldn't fucking cross my mind in a million years.

If there are three users on this board who don't know that, they're just about the only three people in the world who know me that don't.

Retract it or put your best evidence on the table immediately. I have absolutely nothing to fear. And I'm not interested in going through some epic troll dance where you get to badjacket me or anybody else by repeating the same unsupported accusations about other posters over and over.

So put up. Or shut up.

Way back when — well before this thread — I noticed the edit thing, and didn't think anything of it because I didn't think it was important. I still don't think it's important.

At the very most, any edit he's made has been benign; that there wasn't an audit trail speaks about the board software, not about any ill-intentions on Barracuda's part.

I respected Barracuda when he was a moderator; I respect him still. If he still had some moderation privileges in the aftermath, it was fine by me — and none of my damn business.
