Glenn Beck, perhaps the slimiest of all the right wing religious conservative talk show hosts who for years bashed "conspiracy theorists" is here talking about secret cabals, elite occultism, NSA eavesdropping, the "Illuminati", etc. I think Alex Jones beat him to the punch.

I hate to say it, but Brietebart and Beck to me were almost on par with Rush Limbaugh as far as hate mongering spewage. I can't even believe people think Brietebart was "assassinated"...fucking Mitt Romney and Gingrich eulogized him when he passed away. He was about as establishment as it got. All these guys endlessly talked about how a secret cabal of communism, Muslims, etc were trying to take over the world. That anti war people, people talking about the patriot act, etc were liberal idiots.

NOW all the sudden he's putting on his tinfoil hat? Another reason I quietly left conspiracy culture behind, is because it got so full of right wing lunacy. Now that Obama is president, it's completely gone into nutzoid extreme. Sure it's great having Alex Jones talk about Hastings, but then in the next segment he and Rand Paul are comparing gay rights to paedofiles.

Kelly not only gave Beck his first lessons in marketing and publicity, he also saved his life. During a softball game in the spring of 1983, Beck and Kelly were passing joints under their gloves in the outfield, beers at their feet. When a fly ball cruised out toward Beck, he ran for it and slipped. Upon hitting the ground, Beck swallowed his tongue and started to choke. Yes, it is surpassingly strange. I don't think I've ever so vividly pictured someone choking to death on their own tongue, or in fact at all really. Further on in their careers Glenn Beck, engaged in a ratings war with his old friend, life saver and mentor Bruce Kelly, would make fun of the fact on air that Kelly's wife had miscarried, saying that, "(Kelly) apparently can't do anything right -- he can't even have a baby."

Despite his creative freedom, local star status and high salary, Beck's mental state was on a slide. By his own telling, he was drinking heavily, snorting coke and entertaining thoughts of suicide. "There was a bridge abutment in Louisville, Kentucky, that had my name on it," Beck later wrote. "Every day I prayed for the strength to be able to drive my car at 70 mph into that bridge abutment. I'm only alive today because (a) I'm too cowardly to kill myself ... and (b) I'm too stupid."

Well he's sure used that tongue for a lot of hatred and bigotry.

Sometimes....sometimes...like Fox News, he will do a piece that I agree with. He did a documentary exposing the full extent of horror committed by Communist nations, which I think does get buried. (tho he neglects to mention the horror done by the West in the name of combating terrorism) He also did a great piece on a string of brutal hate crimes done as revenge for the Trayvon Martin event.
But by and large he's just a slimey nutter. I mean Van Jones? Van Jones is one of the GOOD GUYS. And what is this Soros obsession right wing nutters have?
And dont get me started on his post 9/11 Islamaphobia.

Perhaps it is coincidence but I found it interesting that around the time Glenn Beck was pulled off of fox news was the time that he started talking in depth about associations between left wing groups and think tanks and the Muslim brotherhood, and his implicit thesis was that elements of the arab spring were being indirectly controlled by western interests.

Not much different from the idea that intelligence organizations helped foster radical islam during the cold war. I think although he was coming at it from his right wing angle I think beck was doing some higher level thinking that some of the higher ups did not care for.

The guy openly questions the wars now, and has admitted he was wrong on the patriot act.

What I heard was twenty minutes of Beck asking you to take money out of your pocket and place it gently into his. All that other stuff is of tertiary concern.

He has a nice, soothing voice for the close. I felt a reflexive twinge of temptation to actually send him my last eight bucks if it might help save sexually abused children through his algorithmic underground railroad project at ten grand per. You almost can't help it. Then I remembered his personal net worth is around 100 million, despite the homespun demeanor and baseball cap.

The entire segment was a sales pitch. He's working the ROI verified techniques of the cheap television evangelists, peddling a fight against pedocracy, the NSA, etc., as a commercial fund-raising tactic. It's interesting to me that his marketing research wing has focus-grouped these issues as performing well enough for him to promote them as profit center inroads for targeting his demographic base.

Quite so & well said. I have talked to two folks, copywriter Evil Fucks like myself, who have put in work at MRA and said that Beck is very mercurial and improvisational -- and as difficult to work for as you'd expect. Both were in awe of his work ethic, FWIW. That terrible fire! Both mentioned the frustration of their projects being repeatedly dropped/abandoned in a fast moving, fast changing environment, and both expressed admiration for Beck's appetite for research.

The nature of his daily existence should give anyone here pause: he is on camera or on a live mic for most of his waking life, this past decade. That necessitates an absolutely huge volume of source material -- of course, it also necessitates not learning any of that, but merely repurposing and repackaging, day after day after day.

Those stolen caveats aside, though, Beck is paying bills and living large. There is a foundation of cynicism under all the high-flying improv acting, and it's rooted in spreadsheets.

The reason I greatly criticize Beck and the late Andrew Breitbart is because they did/have done a lot of harm. I mean Van Jones, wtf was that? He tried to ruin a man's name and career based on bizarre crap that made no sense. And ACORN, what wrong did they do again besides helping poor African Americans? I didnt see Breitbart of Glenn Beck aggressively go after child prostitute loving Dyncorp or murderous Black Water.
These types of people are so blinded by their hatred of "liberals/progressives" that it makes me wonder what part of humanity they even want to see advance.

Rush Limbaugh, another holy man of the unholy. This is why I like people like Cenk. They'll take it to both Republicans and Democrats when warranted, but have a much more balanced view of things.
