Is it that surprising that this board reaches a melting-down point ocassionally? Look at the subjects we each, personally, deal with. It's a fucking dystopian nightmare. RI is a place of desperately-sought cold-comfort when in collective agreeance of ideas, but when core beliefs are questioned, it can become a frustrating and hostile environment.

Come back Wombat, I like experiencing your weltanschauung.

There seems to be one particular subject, and not a particularly obscure one, that seems to have trouble being dealt with here.

The reactions to this seem very tangled up in interpersonal issues though and it's hard to untangle. Why these two are so conflated by intelligent folks eludes me.

I seriously don't know which one you mean. Israel? Icke? Rigor vs. Intuition? What's real and what's controlled opposition? God? Environmentalists and Feminists? Anyway, no such issue made WR go away. I think it was the last-straw effect of one expectation too many (after hundreds) that he should resolve a dispute that seemed too trivial, arbitrary, immature and irresolvable to contemplate.

There have no doubt been a few over the years, and people have got over them. I'm just speaking of the present and it is quite well represented by this reaction:

Locking.
There are already enough threads on this subject where folks can test out clever new bows and wrappings for their racism.
Sick and tired of this baloney on the front page of GD.

couldn't have said it better myself....and it's been an issue for 7 years!!!!!!!

Did you actually read the whole article..

Holocaust Religion and Holocaust Industry in the Service of Israel ...By Shraga Elam

http://www.stateofnature.org/?p=5266#st ... YhaZS.dpuf

before your insightful contribution.

" The very first sentence is questionable:..."

I thought it was an interesting and rather balanced article. Furthermore, I felt like I was the only poster who had actually read the article. ..C'est la vie!

Gosh....even Noam Chomsky is a contributor to the site.

Wombaticus Rex.....respect to you.

Here's we have a good manageable example.

A thread that is only 17 posts long, that contains no argumentation or distracting meanderings. Can you describe the problems contained within that caused it to be curtailed, and I mean within, ie without reference to other threads, other times, other posters, or things unseen?

I haven't checked, but I can hazard a guess that 'baloney' (or the causing of weariness) is not against board policy, even protracted baloney.

I really understand WR's moderating.

Because if you have people expressing opinions that are clearly flawed in logic, communication and reasoning, then let people express those opinions, and let the rest of the intelligent people around here make their own minds up about it.

I thought that his Winston Churchill comment in 'The People's Voice' thread was one of the dryest examples of subtle moderation I've seen. A hat tip to him there.

Going back to that thread though, I would hazard that this is where he may have felt like throwing in the towel, he was basically having to moderate where both parties were behaving equally badly. A real headache.

To be fair to all parties in this fuckup, I only see one of the culprits apologising for their behaviour.

And not just the culprits in that particular thread.

Cue " Sorry seems to be the hardest word" by Elton John.

( I still cant cue stuff)

There's no apology due to you or to some general entity. If I want to talk to Mr. WR, for any reason, I have his e-mail. He's not dead, he's just said he's outta here. People do that. (I will also, inevitably, though so far I've preferred long breaks and occasional bursts of activity.) It is not for any of you to use this departure as a talking point to make cheap-ass exhortations (as if he's been murdered, no less!), seek out people to blame, and sound like TV network pundits pontificating after some mass murder about "where did we go wrong, what's happened to America?" on behalf of utterly vague and undefined theses you probably can't even state in words. Any of you. Pathetic.

you are pathetic...you can call for suicide but I can't tell AD to stop dancing on Womby's grave?

that was asking for an apology to Womby  for putting up with this crap for years

and you were the last straw...

and his email is in the lounge

people should be able to post here without you telling them to go off themselves because you don't agree with their views of life

btw I have already emailed him but thanks for the timely advice

I know what you mean. It's nice to think you can inhabit a forum for ever, but things change and posters get stale. It's still hard to move on, but I have done.

A forum where most of the inhabitants have been around for ages and are fairly entrenched, where not many new members seem to be able to take root would not be a healthy one. That's if anyone can imagine such a place.
