The subject of obsession came up a while back, and I think this term is unfairly used as a pejorative.brainpanhandler » Mon Feb 24, 2014 7:10 pm wrote:coffin_dodger » Mon Feb 24, 2014 1:49 pm wrote:Is there a way that we can all declare our dislike of Fascism and the far right - so that the board doesn't become even more swamped with Fascist related threads? It's starting to look obsessional.
The issue is identifying rebranding shenanigans. It's an obsession worth having if it is an obsession. Eternal vigilance. You can always choose to not click on these threads of course. Perhaps one of the token threads posted by slad to make it appear she actually has other interests and does not spend every waking hour obsessing on her perceived enemies at ri might be more to your liking.
obligatory smiley:
Obsession(s) can be useful, they just need to be harnessed and a decent framework developed for what they produce. Granted, they can get out of control, but so can any energy source.
Without obsession we would hardly have any useful science or technology (other fields of endeavour too)
My solution... have more than one obsession, preferably qualitatively different ones that don't reinforce each other. This enables a step back and overview if nothing else
