Mr. Piscean Overbite: Avec plaisir, on a Bier, no probs here.

Na, I think your way, more or less, except for maybe having it as a 24-hour thing only.

Or maybe, WRex, you can revive the Firepit? Just be quicker on the banishment trigger, assuming the early stages of some ridiculous thing. It's possible to prune branches off long threads and Firepit'em, innit?

(Minions: As Firepit illustration, please add required shot of "This Is Sparta!!!" kicking that Fancy Dress Guy into the Hole. Request shopping of WRex head over King Butler's, and JR Angry Shakespeare Avatar(r) as the unfortunate messenger. If you have time. If you can animate it so that the Friendly Clitoris jumps off to escape, so much the better. Thanks, Code Crew, you're the greatest!)

True enough. It is so annoying how you're so often right.

Oh, Mr.WRex, please don't be humbled by my offering, my first ever remark of criticism towards moderation. I've always felt and still do feel mods act in the best interest and in respect for Jeff's creation.

Sorry about the 'I'm a Republican' thing; it just popped out. I'll have to work on that. You know I love you!

I do think a revival of the firepit would satisfy all objectives, short of eradication.

Moving on now...

Whoops, forgot to include this, Good one, Elihu!

Why do you think I should not have deleted it?

Or is this just some nebulous general principle "Free Speech" stuff?

~

Free speech? No. It’s called censorship…something you yourself, at one time, would have been opposed to. Now, if someone uses their free speech to intimidate, disrupt, bully and generally act trollish then why not give them some time out? I reported FB just last week for such behavior and nothing ever came of it, so he was free to offend again. Now you’ve deleted his words, which incidentally I never saw, and guess what…he’s still here. You really want to follow this guy around cleaning up his messes?

Anyway, I know most discussion forums censor comments, but that's why RI is not like most discussion forums. You guys are/were really cool about that.

Cheers.

.....how often do you need to see the same old suspects engaging in profanity, verbal shin-kicking and rhetorical eye-gouging to form an opinion about them...?

...at what point does it make sense for the amenity of other board members & to keep threads on-topic for a mod to exercise judgement in a live situation as to whether a verbal tit be allowed to stand, followed by the inevitable tat ad nauseam or don the white nurse's uniform & latex gloves to execute hygienic & painless removal....?

Now you’ve deleted his words, which incidentally I never saw.....

...exactly....

For the record, I have practiced and advocated censorship my entire life and at no point would I have disagreed with my actions, even when I am flatly contradicting myself.

If I were ever to start a discussion forum of my own, I would be downright Dzerzhinsky about it.

However, I also love and respect all of y'all and this conversation has convinced me to drop the issue.

It was an experimental phase.

I was young.

Ya gotta ask yourself "what would Leonides do?"

It's there for a reason right?

On a side note... WR, Fish. Jack, BPH, everyone... it really nice to see you all in one place again, even if it's just this.

That's going to be my policy for "moderation" going forward: just excising the tumor and dumping it into the incinerator tube, or if your prefer, The Memory Hole.

Cheers.

I welcome feedback on that and am open to changing my mind, at least theoretically.

FUCK THAT SHIT.

If we all work together, we can turn this thread into an exchange so pointless and petty that it will itself have to be deleted.
