Poll: Americans feel unsafe, support action against ISIS
09/09/14 06:30 PM—Updated 09/09/14 09:09 PM

The percentage of Americans who believe the United States is less safe is at its highest point since the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, according to a new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll. Forty-seven percent say the country is less safe, while just 26% say it’s safer. That’s compared with the results from Sept. 2002 (when just 20% said the country was less safe) and from last year (when it was 28%). And the poll finds that more than six in 10 respondents think that taking military action against the Islamic militant group ISIS is in the nation’s interest.

These numbers serve as the backdrop for the prime-time speech President Obama will deliver on Wednesday night outlining his plan to combat ISIS, which has taken over parts of Iraq and Syria and which beheaded two American journalists in gruesome videos.

“A very war-weary country … seems to have woken up to the real threat that ISIS may present,” says Republican pollster Bill McInturff, who conducted this survey with Democratic pollster Peter Hart and his colleagues at Hart Research.

“The beheadings are so chilling to the American public,” added Hart. “The only things I think of equal impact are the self-immolations back in Vietnam.”

Indeed, a whopping 94% of Americans say they have heard about the news of the beheaded journalists – higher than any other news event the NBC/WSJ poll has measured over the past five years...

It's probably worth remembering that the genesis to this current beheading meme originated with the usual suspects ..
Osama’s Head on Ice
CIA and Bush Administration Fire up "Mighty Wurlitzer"

By Larry Chin
Global Research, May 13, 2005

Mainstream media—part of the CIA’s “Mighty Wurlitzer” of propaganda—is buzzing with the recent televised performances of CIA agent Gary Schroen . Schroen alleges that shortly after 9/11, his CIA superior, J. Cofer Black, ordered fellow CIA agents to behead Osama bin Laden, and deliver his head in a box of dry ice to George W. Bush. Black allegedly also ordered the delivery of the heads of other al-Qaeda lieutenants to Bush, on “pikes”...

Shortly after the founding of the CIA, OSS/CIA legend Frank Wisner gleefully coined the CIA’s powerful propaganda machine “the Mighty Wurlitzer”. Today, the “Wurlitzer” is a global orchestra. It is the mainstream media, and vice versa—and its disinformation is played around the clock, echoing in every corner of the world. It is the noise of an irrevocably criminal empire, rotten to its core.

Those who willingly consume the CIA’s brain-numbing indoctrinations, who accept any aspect of the Bush administration’s “war on terrorism” myth, have delivered their own heads, their minds, to George W. Bush—on dry ice and on pikes.

Something I just thought of...

If ISIS was truly independent blowback, why would they stop their unstoppable swarm invasion to try and wipe out the Yazidis or the Shia in Armil? Why the beheading videos threatening Obama and the US?
Why waste all that time blowing up endless mosques and religious holy sites? "Shock and awe"?

They would have made so much more geography and tactical gains if they hadnt done that. Hell they could be at Baghdad by now.

Notice how it wasnt til they were near CIA city of Erbil that Obamas "hand was forced"? Obama wouldnt have done anything had they just kept on going straight down to Baghdad.

It's almost like they are being directed to be a bratty kid jumping up and down all the sudden, instead of the quick land grab and hold tactic they were employing the great success.
Now even if Obama didn't want into Iraq, he's being "forced"(in the narrative) to go into Iraq and Syria.

As if the entire purpose of ISIS is a ruse pretext to DRAW the US and coalition back into Iraq and more importantly: finally get that trojan horse into Syria.
It's the perfect pretext as I've said, as I see now a lot of liberals online and what, 90% of the US public saying ISIS poses an urgent threat and we must go into Iraq and Syria to take them out.

Bravo globalists, bravo. Clearly a honey trap meant to bring us closer to world war 3 somehow.

As to wiping out other cultures and their religious sites, it's obvious. They consider themselves the "proper," Islam and others must be wiped out/converted. This has been going on for centuries you know.

ISIS is a honeypot, I said so months ago that this was the "use" the syrian situation would be put to, and here it is.

Every government in the region is "against" ISIS, now we've got a mass popular anti-ISIS meme campaign going on amongst "arab" "youth" and others. Meanwhile, every "dead-ender" bent on violent gee-had has nicely gathered themselves together and made a pariah of themselves.

I'd call it brilliant if it somehow doesn't end in mass extermination of every IS-related person. but it probably will, and in the end, maybe that'll finally put this whole thing to bed for a couple generations at least.

That is an awfully broad brush you are painting with. Not all Americans are dumb. In fact most of us are not, the ones who are just get the most attention.

Regardless of what other foreigners say about America and Americans many of them sure still strive to be just like us in a lot of ways and a lot of them would love to live in this country if they had the chance.

It is not the American people that are the problem, we are not our government or its foreign policy.

No, I would say most Americans are dumb/stupid/deer in the headlights. They're just too entrenched in their 24-7 Truman Show panopticon smart phone matrix to care about even what the mass media or government is selling. Only OMG like so uh does this dress make me look fat/Like uh I think I need to go back to the gym

US officials threatened James Foley's family with criminal charges if they raised ransom money to free him
Xeni Jardin at 3:37 pm Fri, Sep 12, 2014

Slain journalist James Foley's mom says federal officials threatened the Foley family with criminal charges if they raised money to pay ransom to free him. The "devastating" message didn't surprise her, she told ABC News, but the way it was delivered shocked her.

“I was surprised there was so little compassion,” Diane Foley told ABC News today of the three separate warnings she said U.S. officials gave the family about the illegality of paying ransom to the terror group ISIS. “It just made me realize that these people talking to us had no idea what it was like to be the family of someone abducted… I’m sure [the U.S. official] didn’t mean it the way he said it, but we were between a rock and a hard place. We were told we could do nothing… meanwhile our son was being beaten and tortured every day.”

Earlier this week five current and former officials with direct knowledge of the Foley case confirmed the alleged threats were made.

"It was an utterly idiotic thing to do that came across as if [the U.S. official] had the compassion of an anvil," said a former official who has advised the family.

so is ANYONE even trying to explain away the lack of blood? Is there really a significant lack of blood? I haven't seen the video and don't intend to, but I know some have, what did you see?

Interesting.. Yeah on this one it seems like my friends on the left and right are all in favor of "kicking their asses." Even friends who were ferociously against Bush's initial invasion(s) seem to be in favor of this one. While we may go into debates here about the legitimacy of the video(s) themselves, I certainly agree that there's a shitload of propaganda and bolstering going on, and it seems to be working.. My opinion: when you strip away the shock value of the beheading videos and stories about persecuted Christians, Zoroastrians etc, there's no more reason to drop boots now then there was then. If it was really about "finally being able to do some good" I can think of a lot better...

Also really interesting the article says they're about 3,000 strong but a CIA report widely released yesterday says it's 30,000. Wow that's quite a discrepancy..

Re: the intelligence/interest level of most N. Americans: to say most are all totally unaware of the world around them is a broad brush; It's a pretty diverse country, but sadly I'd have to agree that most Americans believe whatever they're told. Myself excluded of course. :)

He literally saws back and forth on the guys neck SEVEN TIMES BACK AND FORTH NO BLOOD, none, blood should be SQUIRTING out by the third or fourth saw youd think right? THEN IT BLACKS OUT and then shows a body laying on its back flat with a head sitting on its chest, the head appears to be the reporter and there is some residual blood around the body and on his clothes. But there is no blood at all when he initially starts and we see a good seven back and forth saws with the knife before it blacks out. The actual beheading is not shown in either video. The only gore is about a 3 second shot of body with head on chest at the very end and I suppose that could be a wax figure for all we know but I cant really say, I am not an expert on such things.
