Better thread structure?

Postby American Dream » Mon Feb 02, 2015 1:07 pm

We are not all on the same page regarding issues related to thread structure. There are competing concerns about thread focus and consolidation, issues of more or less discussion on a given thread, and other such topics. It might even be that there are new guidelines of some sort that we want to come together around in order to create a better board in general.

This is a place for discussing our thoughts and concerns about this.

there is nothing wrong with this board that combining a few duplicate threads wouldn't cure...or more frequent use of the sub forums...I've tried it ...why don't you?

btw serial name dropping is a downer

Mazars and Deutsche Bank could have ended this nightmare before it started.
They could still get him out of office.

This forum uses a 2007 build of phpBB. It is what it is. There's nothing to discuss in terms of "structure" -- only our behavior can be changed.

Yeah, I wasn't even thinking of a fundamental change along those lines and I also think the generally unrewarded labor of moderators should be honored through making sure that we don't do anything that imposes unwanted extra demands upon their time, focus, energy...

That was a statement that you can take at face value. However passionately driven my partisan sympathies for the libertarian left and against the far right, for much more rigour in our conspiracy cultures, etc., I really do think that honoring R.I. means also respecting the fact that we have volunteer moderators with lives and concerns of their own.

Patently absurd, this forum is a ghost town. IF you respected it, you would have taken the common-sense step of creating your own blog/forum years ago, so as to meander in peace and avoid the miscreants.

I understand why you would call this forum a ghost town though I wouldn't go quite that far myself. As to creating my own blog/forum, do you mean at RI? Which/where are some current blogs that you consider to be hot and happening?

That must be a reference to a convention around here about using green fonts for sarcasm...

I'm sure you're just itching to insert your views on what is best for the board, as you failed to make any suggestions as to what the changes should be in your mysterious 'let's throw it open and await what comes back' opener.

Allow me to guess where this is headed:

Any threads started by AD that deal with what AD considers very, very important should not be despoiled by other member comments that;
1) do not tally in entirety with the very, very important nature of the subject or
2) question the validity or tenacity of opinion proferred by AD within any of those most important threads.

^ Thanks for the reminder, Perelandra.:thumbsup I loved this song when it was released. Feeling old.
