CIA director withheld information about JFK assassination

DAL63112202 - 22 NOVEMBER 1963 - DALLAS, TEXAS: President John F. Kennedy slumps into the arms of his wife, Jackie, immediately after a sniper's bullet slammed into his head, November 22 1963, during a motorcade. Photo of the fatal assault was taken with a Polaroid camera by a woman watching the parade. Newly declassified CIA files reveal former CIA director John McCone withheld information about CIA activity to the Warren Commission investigating the Kennedy assassination. LANGLEY, Va., Oct. 13 (UPI) -- A declassified CIA report reveals former director John McCone withheld information to the Warren Commission investigating the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.

A secret report written in 2013 by CIA historian David Robarge and declassified in fall of 2014, alleges McCone led a "benign cover up" that kept "incendiary" information about the CIA from the Warren Commission, the report said.

McCone's cover up was designed to keep the commission focused on "what the agency believed was the 'best truth' - that Lee Harvey Oswald, ... acted alone in killing John Kennedy," the report said.

McCone withheld the existence of years of CIA plots to work with the mafia to assassinate Fidel Castro. Had that been known by the commission, it would have raised the question of whether Oswald truly acted alone or if he might have worked with Cuba or the Soviet Union.

But Robarge asserts that McCone was convinced that Oswald had acted alone and directed the agency to only provide "passive, reactive and selective" assistance to the commission.

Robarge told Politico, the agency had declassified the report "to highlight misconceptions about the CIA's connection to JFK's assassination." A common conspiracy theory is that the CIA was in some way behind the killing.

President Lyndon Johnson created the Warren Commission in 1963 to investigate the murder of Kennedy. The commission found that Oswald acted alone in the assassination and the McCone revelations might not have changed that, but would have been potentially disastrous to the spy agency.
Mazars and Deutsche Bank could have ended this nightmare before it started.
They could still get him out of office.
But instead, they want mass death.
Don’t forget that.

*Whew* That was a close one. Glad to know the CIA wasn't behind the assassination. I have been able to sleep since November 23, 1963. Now I'll finally get some long-needed ZZZs.

One of the most amusing things about all this is the fact that old conspiracies in which the actors of are mostly dead, or very safely out of reach of being held accountable, are no longer taboo subjects. They are promoted as discussion.

It is the current atrocities happening that are hit with vigorous anger and defense, until they too become the past.

September 11 was the same way. Not allowed to talk about it until it became seemingly public knowledge.

After Silverstein and all his cronies die, and nobody can be held accountable, the headlines might be "did Larry actually make money on that deal? Ohhhh my god!!!"

That keeps people in the past, instead of looking right under their nose, right now.

Smells like limited hangout / keyword hijacking? David Talbot's The Devil's Chessboard was released today, and it (reportedly) accuses a much more prominent CIA director of a direct role in the JFK assassination. (RI thread: David Talbot set to directly accuse Dulles of JFK murder.) I just started the book this morning--We'll see what it has to say...

Interesting observation and something to which I'll give thought, but I don't think I agree. The MIC's murder of JFK is still utterly taboo among establishment intelligentsia and journalists, for example, and the lone Oswald story is going down in the history books. Perhaps Talbot's book is a sign to the contrary, admittedly, but I'm not placing any bets. Certain individuals or relatively low-key conspiracies may open up with time, but TPTB still seem pretty hellbent on clinging to the big lies. I mean, the whole shithouse is at risk if the USG starts to openly acknowledge a coup d'etat in 1963.

I've always thought McCone himself -- genially dopey team player that he was -- provided KWH cover for John J. McCloy, one of the more remarkable God Mode operators in American history.

As for David Talbot, I wish I could get psyched for his new tome but can't see him as anything but another useful idiot being played like a f'ing Stradivarius by his "sources."

No doubt this meaningless CIA release was timed to the release of Talbot's book. This is how their own documents describe their m.o. (like the one about how to handle "conspiracy theory" that they let Max Holland treat).

In fact, it is more taboo now than it would have been into the 1980s, back when people remembered the day well - and Ruby's day, and then the Garrison trial, and then the House committee - and the Sixties/Watergate spirit was still alive, and you were an idiot if you bought into the lone gunman story 100%. "Coup d'etat" was of course far more taboo, yet everyone had thought it at some point. Until the 1990s establishment opinion found the idea of conspiracy to be wrong, but it was not and could not be characterized as crazy, or as some kind of sub-cultural allegiance that came with the rest of the X-Files package. That got going after Oliver Stone's movie.

The way these things work, the commission doing the public investigation is a great place to look for high-level perps. Not that mere membership in the Warren Commission means anything, of course. But the presence on it of McCloy and Dulles - who essentially ran the show - stands out.

I actually met McCone! I was about age 16, he was invited to speak at my school. In his acceptance letter, he stipulated that he would not be answering any questions about the Bay of Pigs. Well, that didn't stop a teacher from asking those questions during Q&A. McCone got all mad and red-faced, and sputtered a reminder that he wouldn't talk about any of that.

Maybe we should have waterboarded the SOB.
