Timely thread - thanks, Brandon!

It's polite and thoughtful to say a goodbye when leaving a community that has been important in one's life.

Sadly, RI has increasingly become irrelevent to me in the past few months. A different state of mind.

Anyone who would like to keep in touch - please pm me.

Sincere wishes of happiness, contentment and vision to anyone who would welcome them.

I know I got "insulting" after a long bar shift and F bombed way more than I do now. I never meant anything by it. Just the parlance of being in a busy bar carrying over to when I got home and logged in. But, Brandon, if you're still reading, you should come back or at least out of curiosity describe what was the straw that broke the camel's back for you. I know the good member sunny left because she joined the Jehova's Witnesses and peaced out which is too bad on a number of levels.

I have been thinking for weeks now about leaving....and it has nothing to do with AD..

some members have decided that this place is not like it used to be and instead of doing something about it...all they do is come here to complain and shit on people

I'm sorry I haven't posted more and that I've mostly lurked. :tear It's just that I've learned way more than I could ever contribute in equal measure. I hate to see the life blood of this forum draining away. :?

Since I am constantly online for work, I go back and forth to see what all you characters are saying as a break from it. Thus, I will never leave. It's just a forum, but it has played a role in our lives and I think it is best looked at as such. Whatever. Maybe we do need "another" 9/11. That, the Iraq "war" etc is what brought us here. Say something crazy happens. I'm most certainly not going to wade into reddit, comment boards of news stories and shit like that to get widespread coverage. RI because of it's size and trust is a pretty good filter. RI actually helps me think and commune believe it or not.

Again, it's just a forum. Nothing to just "leave", I don't think.

as a forum that has attracted a number of bruised/hurt people ....and EVERYONE here knows that ....it is unforgivable/shameful of members here to continue to spew hate and ridicule....they chose to believe that their words are just words and those words couldn't possibly hurt members but those words can.....not for me for I am old and seen enough of the world for 10 lifetimes but when I read hate here towards other members it does effect me and yes I get pissed off about it ...it hurts my heart for others that may not be able to shrug it off as easily as I do.

I really, really hope you change your mind. You are really the reason I decided to stay...because of your response to the notorious "flat earth" thread I started.

Not because you agreed with what I posted--I don't think you did--but because you took the time to consider it and pointed out how hard it is to trust anything when "culture is built upon layers and layers of mutually agreed-upon lies." and that you "don't consider it wise to follow the consensus of a culture built upon lies, or the consensus of authority figures who are nearly 100% illegitimate. "

As in *absolutely every* conspiracy of this type, thousands of conspirators are not in any way required.

The reason for this is one simple but unpleasant fact: human beings in western culture do not care what is true.

We only care about the truth when it suits us. And very often the truth does not suit us, because our current culture is built upon layers and layers of mutually agreed-upon lies.

If one assumes that our current culture is based upon humanity's best and honest appraisal of what is true, then I might have difficulty discussing the finer points of reality with that person, because we are divergent on a very fundamental point about the world.

And if one agrees that our current culture is infused with layers of mutually agreed-upon self deception, then that person would not be so quick to casually disregard a subject that our thoroughly corrupt and deceptive culture sneers and laughs at.

This does not mean that an aggressively opposed subject is necessarily true, it means that I don't consider it wise to follow the consensus of a culture built upon lies, or the consensus of authority figures who are nearly 100% illegitimate.

This post does not speak specifically to the subject of flat earth, but rather to the underlying emotionally-based attitudes that cause people to attack those who seriously consider ideas that our appointed "intelligentsia" have deemed off-limits.

When the model of our world presented to us and our personal experience do not align in some way, this is creating a space for a conspiracy to grow. A conspiracy will grow when it addresses this inconsistency that we are collectively choosing to ignore. This is how it occurs every single time.

This does not mean that the conceptual theory underlying a conspiracy is necessarily true, but still that conspiracy is pointing to something of significance. It is pointing to a lie that has yet to be honestly addressed.

Not only are you respectful, intelligent and articulate, in my very humble opinion, I think you really get it...more than most. Please don't leave. :(

No-one needs to engage all the time. There's always lurking, coming and going, disappearing. I resigned from a larger herd long ago, but it's not like I don't keep an eye on THEM and hang out occasionally. Stick around, BrandonD, we need all of us. Right now, I believe I'll treat my mood disorder by horn section injection.

Jeez. This is really sad.

I haven't really been holding up my end of the bargain lately...I've read through a few threads but haven't posted any responses. It's solely a result of my own (perceived?) lack of ability to post original thoughts.

This place is a tremendous resource. The more eyes we have on the situation, the better we are able to predict what else might be coming our way and, perhaps, make preparations for it. I hate to see any of the eyes in this group disappear, especially given the increasingly grim future we seem to be facing.

You guys are great. It's mighty humbling to be among such profound thinkers.
