As racial hate groups rise, strategies to shut them down

We have seen a sustained rise in hate groups since basically 2000. And the main thing driving this has been changing demographics in the United States.

2000 was an important year because it was the first time that the U.S. census said definitively, in our near future, 2042 at the time, whites will no longer be the majority. And obviously, if you are a member of a hate group, right, if you’re a white supremacist, the fact that whites will be less than 50 percent of the population is something to basically be a little freaked out about.

And so we started to see them organizing by hate groups and huge growth, spiked over 1,000 hate groups in a short period of time. Obama added to that, right? Obviously, the first black president was another reason for a backlash like that to develop.

"changing demographics" ---- is there a reference at all to the drastic changes to socio-economic classes over the last 20+ years (and in particular, the virtual disappearance of a solid middle-class, the causes of this drastic reduction, and how that may impact feelings of HATE among those that may feel disenfranchised/disempowered, inspiring them to look elsewhere to "fit in")?

Love the gif of Trump getting ass-reamed by a Unicorn, by the way. The rainbow's a nice added touch. Totally worth clicking on this thread for that gif alone. And no, that's not sarcasm.

Thurs, Apr 14 – Trump on LI, Vigil for Marcelo Lucero

Posted on April 12, 2016 by valdinoci

A framed image of Marcelo Lucero at a 2009 vigil
in Patchogue a year after his murder.

Eight years ago Marcelo Lucero, an Ecuadorean immigrant, was brutally murdered by seven teenagers on Railroad Avenue in Patchogue, Long Island. The case drew national headlines at the time not because it was an isolated incident but because it seemed like the peak after a build up of anti-immigrant sentiment during the Steve Levy’s term as County Executive.

Just last week, the Suffolk County Republicans invited Donald Trump to speak at their fundraiser this Thursday, April 14, at the Emporium in Patchogue — on the same block that Marcelo Lucero was stabbed to death. The family has requested that the event be canceled out of respect for Marcelo. Joselo Lucero (Marcelo’s brother), who became an activist after the death of his brother, said that the anti-immigrant rhetoric of politicians like Steve Levy led to his bother’s death. For Trump — an icon who has inspired hate crimes and bold racism from the country’s right wing — to speak at the same location as his brother’s death is a slap in the face.

“This is personal,” Joselo Lucero said. “You know, this is not a reality show where you can say something and you can get away with that…. Every dollar he’s going to collect on Thursday is going to have blood. If he uses this money for his campaign, he’s going to have blood in his hands.”

As expected, Long Island Republican’s have no empathy or respect for the Lucero family, or Long Island’s immigrant community at large. Suffolk Republican Chairman John Jay LaValle has confirmed that the fundraiser will go on, denied any correlation between anti-immigrant sentiment and having Trump as a speaker, and instead blamed immigrants for “opening old wounds.”

White nationalist Matthew Heimbach: the next David Duke?

Image
Matthew Heimbach(center), chairman of the Traditionalist Worker Party, and fellow supporters spread support for their third party movement in Beattyville, Kentucky.

Wednesday, April 13, 2016

"Get out! Leftist scum! Get out!"

In the video, the bearded white man wears a black shirt and a red baseball cap with the words Make America Great Again. He is yelling at a young black woman. He shoves her once, then again, screaming at her to leave. The crowd around him is agitated. Others push the woman as well. Many are yelling.

There had been clashes between supporters and protesters at Donald Trump rallies before, but this one in Louisville last month stood out. The racial imagery was jarring, the violence only barely contained. When video of the encounter went viral, most who saw it had no idea who the man was. But his followers knew. And so did his family. And so did the people who track hate groups and white supremacist organizations, who consider him one of the country's leading young proponents of racial acrimony.

The day after the rally, Matthew Heimbach, a 25-year-old white nationalist who grew up in an affluent Maryland community and now lives in rural Indiana, acknowledged online that he was the one in the video pushing the woman. The object of his fury, Kashiya Nwanguma, 21, a public health major at the University of Louisville, has joined two others in suing Trump in Jefferson County Circuit Court for inciting a riot. The suit also accuses Heimbach of assaulting Nwanguma.

In his post online, Heimbach described her as a member of the Black Lives Matter movement who had been disrupting the event for the better part of an hour. "White Americans are getting fed up and they're learning that they must either push back or be pushed down," he wrote.

In an interview, Nwanguma said she's not affiliated with any organization and attended the rally on her own to peacefully protest Trump's policies.

"It's hard for me to think about that day," she said. And it's hard for her to forget Heimbach. What stays with her is "the blind rage and hatefulness and aggression" that she was met with as she was being shoved.

"It was a new side of humanity that I hadn't quite seen before," she said. "I know it looks like I'm smiling, but I was really in disbelief. I was like, 'What is going on and why is this happening? There's no way that people are acting like this.'"

Heimbach's supporters cheered his actions, praising him for standing up to the protesters. But for those who have been tracking his rise, the video raised new worries about Heimbach. Some compare him to David Duke, a former Ku Klux Klan grand wizard and the country's best known white nationalist.

"I think Heimbach should be taken as seriously as David Duke," said Ryan Lenz, the editor of the Southern Poverty Law Center's Hatewatch blog. He describes Heimbach as a media-savvy millennial who has forged relationships with Stormfront, the League of the South, the Aryan Terror Brigade, the National Socialist Movement and other white racist organizations.

"He's the affable, youthful face of hate in America," Lenz said, "and, in many ways, he's the grand connector between all of these groups."

Heimbach doesn't hide his extremism. He has had his picture taken at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington holding a sign that reads "6 million? More like 271,301." In another photo, in front of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.'s grave in Atlanta, he unfurled the first flag of the Confederacy. After terrorist attacks in Brussels in March, he tweeted, "Hey Brussels, how's that multiculturalism working out for you?"

His racial worldview has cost him jobs and led to his excommunication from his Orthodox Christian church. It has created a rift between him and his parents and confounded those who knew him in Maryland: his classmates at Poolesville High School, his teachers and many of his fellow students at Montgomery College and Towson University, where he graduated with a history degree in 2013.

Why, they ask, would someone as smart and educated as Heimbach choose to assert that the Holocaust never happened, that lynchings in the South were mostly deserved, that apartheid in South Africa was not as bad as people have suggested and that if white Americans don't set off a homeland for themselves then the future of white America is in jeopardy?

Refugees NOT Welcome

On a weekday afternoon, members of Heimbach's Traditionalist Worker Party are gathered in the back of a tattoo parlor tucked behind a tanning salon and an auto detailer in Madisonville, Kentucky.

Heimbach has driven three hours to this western Kentucky coal region from his home in Paoli, Indiana, a quaint town of 3,600 founded in the early 1800s by Quakers seeking to establish a slave-free territory. There he works as a landscaper and lives with his wife, Brooke, and their 8-month-old son, Nicholas, who is named for the last czar of Russia.

Heimbach, wearing a black T-shirt with the words "Refugees NOT Welcome," meets with Colton Williams, 23, a dishwasher, and Chappy, 37, a tattoo artist who didn't want to use his full name because he has received threats for his involvement in pro-white activities. In Madisonville and neighboring small towns struggling with high unemployment rates, the three men and other party members have been going door to door distributing literature and encouraging people to join their movement supporting "faith, family and folk."

"We don't consider ourselves a hate group at all," Chappy says. "We don't hate anybody."

Heimbach concurs. "We advocate for our people, but I don't wish pain or death or suffering for anyone else."

What they want, they say, is to make sure that elected officials are addressing the needs of poor and blue-collar whites. They want to run candidates in local elections. They want to siphon votes from mainstream Republicans. They want an end to illegal immigration; an end to outsourcing; an end to same-sex marriage; an end to abortion; an end to foreign aid (except disaster relief); and an end to attacks on European-American identity. That's the short-term plan.

The long-term plan is grander. Heimbach foresees the United States being divided into autonomous racial states with white Christians free to live apart and outside of the control of any federal authority. Other racial groups would have their own lands, and an area would be set aside for people who wanted to continue living in a multicultural society. The goal would be for each race to protect its identity, and for Heimbach that means protecting whites.

"The system, which is a multi-ethnic empire, doesn't care about us," he says. "We're under attack. White people need an advocate."

Starting small

Marilyn Mayo has been tracking Heimbach's doings for five years. The director of the Anti-Defamation League's center on extremism, Mayo keeps a watchful eye on individuals and organizations that support racist and anti-Semitic ideologies. Heimbach elicits more worry than most, she says.

"We've been concerned about him because he goes beyond just talking," she says. "He's created groups. He's building ties. He's obviously someone who can write about topics intellectually, and he's college educated. But he also wants to have very strong ties with hardcore groups like neo-Nazis and racist skinheads."

Heimbach insists that his movement doesn't promote violence. For him, inclusion on lists of avowed racists and extremists is more a badge of honor than a sign that he has crossed any line.

His party is still nascent. There are maybe few hundred followers and a dozen or so chapters nationwide. But it will grow, Heimbach says, because whites are being ignored in favor of minorities. And no one has pointed that out more clearly to the rest of the nation, he says, than Donald Trump, who has emerged as the leading contender for the GOP presidential nomination, in part, by promising to build a wall to keep Mexicans out and to bar Muslims from entering the country.

"Hopefully this (election) will really damage the Republican Party as a whole and awaken white working-class and middle-class people that the Republicans don't represent them," he says. "So I really like Trump for that. But he's not one of us. He's not a white nationalist."

Whether Trump becomes president doesn't matter. Either way, Heimbach predicts, his movement will win.

"Our movement is on the rise," he told a gathering of the Council of Conservative Citizens in St. Louis last month. "And Donald Trump is just the first glimmer of the dawn that is about to rise. What he has shown us is that our people will not go quietly into the night. They want to fight."

Heimbach sees a model for what his political party can accomplish in Europe where far-right parties have gained strength in recent years in response to economic uncertainty, terrorist attacks and the migrant crisis. He has traveled to Greece to meet with leaders of that country's fascist Golden Dawn party, and in Germany he addressed the National Democratic Party, the country's ultranationalist political party. Britain has banned him from traveling there.

Last summer, Heimbach spoke in California at Camp Comradery, a gathering of far-right nationalists, skinheads and white supremacists.

"The next time we have this conference, I want to see twice the amount of people here," he said. "In 10 years, I want a Nuremberg rally."

Costs cut deep

"Self-radicalized."

That's how Heimbach describes his racial awakening. Growing up in Poolesville, Maryland, a once rural, increasingly diverse community with a median household income of $150,000 a year, Heimbach had no personal encounters that led to his racist ideology. It certainly wasn't something he learned from his parents. Karl and Margaret Heimbach, who are both school teachers and divorced when Matthew was in his early teens.

"His family does not share his beliefs in terms of race or religion," Margaret Heimbach said in a brief phone interview. His father declined to comment.

The genesis of Heimbach's world view came from two books he read in high school, "Who are We? The Challenges to America's National Identity" by Samuel Huntington and Patrick Buchanan's "Death of the West?" And everything else, he says, he discovered online.

At Poolesville High, Heimbach tried to start a white student union at the school after a similar group was formed for African-American students. He says more than a hundred students signed his petition. Deena Levine, the school's principal, declined to discuss Heimbach.

But Christine Simmons, a former classmate, says that he made other students feel very uncomfortable.

"He wouldn't use the N-word or any slurs, but he would say this is a white community and those people don't belong here," Simmons says. "He was always very rude to anyone who wasn't like him or didn't think like him."

At Montgomery College, Heimbach went out of his way to be offensive in a number of Joe Thompson's history classes, his former teacher says. He once wore a shirt that said "All I need to know about Islam I learned on 9-11" and on his laptop he displayed a bumper sticker with a Confederate flag and the words "If I had known all the trouble they would cause, I would have picked the cotton myself."

Thompson says that Heimbach was smart, but sifted history to fit his needs. "When he debates history, he leaves out those inconvenient facts that hurt his argument." What Thompson also thought he saw in Heimbach was someone who was looking for a father figure.

"It makes me sad. It seems to me like he's wasted his life," Thompson says. "I did see some goodness in him. But I also did see that he was infected with this hatred."

Heimbach acknowledges that some of his tactics at Montgomery College were over the top. He says, for instance, that his understanding of Islam and respect for the religion has grown. But he's always employed attention-grabbing stunts.

In 2012, as a student at Towson University north of Baltimore, he founded a white student union to "celebrate European heritage." The university refused to sanction the group, but Heimbach and his small group of followers weren't deterred. They would later post on their website that they were there to protect white students from "black predators" and that "White Southern men have long been called to defend their communities when law enforcement and the State seem unwilling to protect our people."

He knows that provocation generates publicity and publicity works, even if it comes with costs.

"I guarantee you that I'm going to recruit members out of this article no matter how badly you slant it," he says. "Thousands of people will look us up online and maybe a dozen will join the party."

But the costs do cut. His father has not met his son, and Heimbach can't foresee a way for them to reconcile. His brother and sister haven't spoken with him in years, he says. Last year, the Orthodox Christian church Heimbach joined in Indiana shunned him for his beliefs.

His work life, too, has been affected.

Earlier this year, Heimbach was training to be a family case manager for the Indiana Department of Child Services until, he says, his bosses learned about his political views. The department said in a statement that Heimbach was dismissed because his "behavior in training was disruptive of the workplace and incompatible with public service."

Heimbach says he hasn't ignored the rebukes or the calls for him to rethink his beliefs. He simply doesn't agree with them. It is everyone else that needs to open their eyes.

"They don't realize how bad the problems are," he says. "They don't realize what's out there. You can't just wait out the storm and hope everything is going to be OK."

Why not the next Satan?

Seriously AD, don't you think you are over-hyping this guy. it looks a bit desperate. It's not as if David Duke ever had this this sort of celebrity status anyway.

PROTESTERS CONFRONT PORTLAND STATE STUDENTS FOR TRUMP [VIDEO]

APRIL 18, 2016

On Saturday, April 17th a group of anti-racist and anti-fascist organizers in Portland, Oregon congregated at the Urban Plaza at Portland State University. The plan was to head across campus and over to the Park Blocks to confront the Portland State Students for Trump, the aggressive student campaign in support of the Donald Trump GOP candidacy. The group was formed by the same students behind the PSU White Student Union, and has made the organization a front group for thinly veiled Alt Right racialist language.

The founding member and clear leader is Vladimir Kolychef, a small boy from Ukraine who first came to people’s attention when posting in anarchist groups on Facebook saying that he was an “anarcho-capitalist” and “race realist.” The latter term indicates that he believes in differences in racial capacity for intelligence, believing that African descended peoples to have a lower innate IQ than whites and to be more prone to criminality. A quick look at his Facebook reveals a block of white nationalist talking points and jokes, often dog whistle lingo from openly racist websites like The Right Stuff and the Daily Shoah(like calling black people ‘dindus’).

The group had recently been shut down during a meeting by the Portland State University Student Union and other allies, who overwhelmed them almost 20:1. This garnered quite a bit of media attention, all of which negated the fact that Kolychef was an open far-right nationalist with growing ties to American white nationalist organizations. Infowars, the reactionary conspiracy theory website from Alex Jones, picked up on the story quickly, interviewing Kolychef and another founding member.

This is what drew out their support on Saturday, where their crowd swelled to almost a hundred supporters, almost all from Patriot organizations and Infowars directly. They marched over to confront the counter-protesters, leading to an extended confrontation in the plaza where Trump supporters were shut down by a small army of noisemakers and loudspeaker sirens. Here the Infowars group tried to bait protesters by using openly racist and homophobic language, shoving cameras in their faces, and attempting to intimidate women of color. On their videos later, Infowars dropped all pretense and posted titles that called protesters “Trannies,” “SJWs, and “the REAL racists.” Infowars is known for being the sillier side of the Internet, yet when looking at recent articles they have allied with nationalism explicitly and are parroting the more offensive side of recent transphobic exclusionary movements. They have gone so far as to even use jokes from violently racialist website like The Right Stuff and the Daily Stormer. They have gladly become what Breitbart is to a large degree: a crossover point for nationalists into the mainstream of conservatism.

Actually, the term has a broader meaning than that, this is just one interpretation, although one that the consistently simplistic antifascistnews would naturally favour in its efforts to maintain an ongoing low cognition/emotion ratio.

Of course, some would use it in that fashion, but these would be accurately labelled as white supremacists, as is well served by the above description. Not even all white nationalists are white supremacists, and neither are ethnonationalists and cultural nationalists and very rarely are civic nationalists.

A 'race realist' could be described as someone who believes that race continues to be widely recognised and thus remains socially important. It does not go away because it happens to make some people uncomfortable. Wombat describes the thinner end of this wedge here:

:thumbsup Like I always say, the only reason the concept of "race" even persists is all these assholes who insist on walking around with their eyes open.

Edit: I'll revise my opinions of Joel if, somehow, "biologically speaking" implies something different from, you know, scientifically speaking.

I find the simplistic dichotomy "Is race real, or a social construct?" used on both sides of the divide (ie the race deniers, and the race 'realists'). The inadequacy of a supposed dichotomy can be used to make an opponent's position look erroneous, as it does one's own, but this latter get downplayed

My answer for a while now has been " it is both real and a social construct". Enough people seem to recognise someone's race, with little to no prompting, to make it real enough.

The long running dichotomy presented does tend to run and run.

Oath Keepers Founder Ready For War With Liberal, Islamist, Drug Cartel Coalition

While speaking with Alex Jones last week, Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes said that his militia group is prepared to fight the supposed alliance between liberals, Black Lives Matter activists, anarchists, gangs, drug cartels and jihadists determined “to destroy western civilization.”

https://youtu.be/1ZjpUkgVax4

Rhodes boasted that his extremist group is “starting student chapters on college campuses across the country,” while Jones warned that college student bodies today are dominated by violent Maoists bent on killing their adversaries.

The Oath Keepers leader had a warning for any student who tried to burn the American flag: “You’re going to get stomped. That’s what’s going to happen to them. I know a lot of veterans, the first time they see some radical leftist trampling on a flag or burning a flag, they’re going to kick their ass. I know you can say it’s free speech, but the veteran doesn’t care about that. In his mind, it’s not free speech, that’s not protected speech, it’s incitement to violence so he’s going to go ahead and use it.”

“When someone gets in your face and wants to use violence, like that one commissar who was screaming and screeching for ‘muscle,’ ‘Bring some muscle over here, I need muscle,’ people like that, we have no sympathy for, so when she gets what’s coming to her and those like her, well that’s just the way it goes,” Rhodes continued. “When someone does defend themselves and they get stomped, of course they’ll screech and call them ‘racist’ and ‘fascist’ and ‘brownshirts’ but they brought it on themselves so I just have no sympathy for them.”

Rhodes then said that European leaders are inviting “jihadists” to set up “up a future Tet Offensive, Tet-style offensive in Europe and the same thing is being done to this country, so if we just sit back, they’ll win because they’ll just cause the chaos they’ll use as creative destruction.”

He said Oath Keepers’ “civil defense units” will “fight in the street” against “the jihadists and the cartels and the gangs and these radical Black Lives Matter people and the black anarchists, the black flag anarchists; they are all just force multipliers and proxies, just as we saw during the Cold War with communism.”

Jones announced that “we have a mole inside the Democrats” who has reported that party operatives are buying InfoWars shirts to wear while committing a “fourth generation false flag” and that Muslim refugees in America and Europe are “preparing a secret super assault, a jihadist, western Tet Offensive.”

According to Rhodes, liberals “support radical Islamists” because “they want to destroy western civilization” and want to “use them as a force multiplier as part of their creative destruction and then later control them. Of course they’re wrong, they’ll wind up with their heads chopped off at the end, if they prevail.” Jones further explained that the communist leaders “are planning a hot takeover” and are going to “conscript people that aren’t domesticated as their slaves” and hope that the radical Islamists commit terrorist attacks so that they can “bring in martial law after.”

Rhodes said this was the “creative destruction” he has warned about, suggesting that Hitler-like western leaders will not only bring in terrorists but also millions of Latin American refugees after deliberately “imploding” their home countries’ economies. He urged viewers to get ready to fight MS-13 gangs “or some Islamist cell down the street.”

I just read Stefan Zweig's autobiography, which of course ended with the sad story of his exile and ultimately his suicide-in-exile.

On the topic of Hitler's rise, he noted a few interesting things from a man-on-the-street perspective. First, it was obvious to him that the Nazis were being bankrolled, perhaps on several fronts. The brownshirts always wore crisp uniforms and brandished up-to-date weapons in a country where respected doctors walked about in patched shoes following Weimar hyperinflation.

His take was that both entrenched rightist military interests and the Social Democrats thought they could contain the Nazis and use them as a bludgeon against the Communists.

CALL TO ACTION: STOP THE TRADITIONALIST WORKERS PARTY RALLY IN SACRAMENTO JUNE 26TH

Matthew Heimbach In His Own Words:

No longer will the homosexual, Muslim, and black supremacist groups be allowed to hijack our campus. … Youth for Western Civilization is preparing to take our campus back, all we need is the help of people like you to make it happen.” – Youth for Western Civilization blog, January 2012

To be able to get everyone behind the idea [that] the purpose of our movement shouldn’t be about reforming America, shouldn’t be about trying to make the system better and less unfair towards us, it’s about flipping the table over. It’s about going to temple and saying that this is a violation of God’s law and creating a new homeland for whites around the entire world.”
– Traditionalist Youth Hour with Matthew Parrott, July 10, 2013

“[W]e shouldn’t give up California just yet. Because it truly is beautiful in terms of weather, but it’s full of Mexicans and that’s sort of a problem.”
– Traditionalist Youth Hour with Matthew Parrott, July 10, 2013

This is our home and our kith and kin. Borders matter, identity matters, blood matters, libertarians and their capitalism can move to Somalia if they want to live without rules, in the West we must have standards and enforce them. The ‘freedom’ for other races to move freely into white nations is nonexistent. Stay in your own nations, we don’t want you here.
– “I Hate Freedom,” Traditionalist Youth Network, July 7, 2013

Those who promote miscegenation, usury, or any other forms of racial suicide should be sent to re-education centers, not tolerated.
– “I Hate Freedom,” Traditionalist Youth Network, July 7, 2013

"I do not care if you are a man who ‘loves’ another man, you do not have the right, privilege, or ability to marry him and carry on in a degenerate relationship. In any healthy society you would be dragged off to therapy to help you cope with your mental illness, not given glitter and assless chaps to parade down the street. A society helps the mentally ill; it doesn’t parade them around as normal."
– “I Hate Freedom,” Traditionalist Youth Network, July 7, 2013

“We are not separate peoples fighting alone. We are all comrades in the struggle against International Jewry and the Zionist State.
—“Same Enemy, Same Barricades: The Church Against Zionism,” Traditionalist Youth Network, Aug. 11, 2014

When the Jews are strong, the Jewish people engage their supposed foes with cold-blooded cruelty. This is why we must understand a unity between those who struggle against the Zionist State and International Jewry here in the West and those on the streets of Gaza, Syria, and Lebanon. We face the exact same enemy, one who doesn’t care if they kill our women, children, and elderly. We are facing a truly Satanic enemy, one that cannot be understood except through the lens of Christianity and Christian prophecy
