Just for the record, because I'm seeing it all over social media and it is bugging me, while the shooting of Philando Castile in Falcon Heights may be aggregious, the video does not actually show the shooting.
It shows the aftermath of a shooting with narration of what allegedly took place immediately prior to the shooting. May seem like a minor quibble, but the psychology of the telephone game is involved and otherwise smart people are talking as if the video shows the event itself. As much as it shows and as horrible as it may be, it does not actually show the moment the shots were fired.
These distinctions matter, especially in a time when so many forces seem intent on inciting racial tension and civil war.
It occurs to me that was one of Manson's supposed goals. If not someone's goal right now, sure seems to be working that direction anyhow.
Edit: still waiting to make sense of the attack on Dallas police, but I bet there will be a substantial impact on if and how large scale protests are carried out and policed in the future. Kind of a double bind; freedom of assembly vs. maniacal cop killers. And killer cops. May we live in interesting times.
