In a live video stream on Facebook, which appeared to start at 8:59 p.m., a witness named Michael Kevin Bautista, who was covering the protest, broadcast a long exchange of fire between police officers and a gunman outside the El Centro College building at the corner of Main Street and North Lamar.

At 9 p.m. a man and a woman who live a block away from the college uploaded video shot from their living room window in which a stream of gunfire could be heard.

Another clip, recorded by a witness named Randy Biart from the nearby Crowne Plaza Hotel, appeared to show the gunman firing a rifle from behind the columns of El Centro College.

What appears to be another part of Biart’s footage was broadcast by a local Fox News station and copied to Twitter by Matthew Keys, a former social media editor for Reuters who was convicted last year of helping members of the hacker group Anonymous. That section of the video includes distressing, graphic images of the gunman shooting a police officer at point-blank range during the firefight.

No mention of any of this, ever, by Chief Brown, who instead blathered on, hours later, about "at least two snipers" on "elevated" "perches".

Right, and we have seen the video where he then gets back in to the parking garage,* where the confrontation continued.
He may have taken fire at this point, but he did have body armor on.
From Google maps it appears the campus itself is somewhat elevated from the street level of the protest.
And one level up in the garage would give a clear elevated position. Not at all unthinkable.

Chief Brown went from "triangulated" in the press conference to "almost triangulated" in the cnn interview.

Perfect example of eye-witness testimony. In the video, two guys are talking about the officer that was just shot down. One guy is totally shocked.

"Dude, that's a cop down!"

"Yeah, there's four cops down."

"FOUR?!"

"Yeah, he shot five, seven times."

"It's a dude?!"

"No, it's a sniper from up here somewhere."

"IT'S A SNIPER?!"

"You hear the shots, get down, get down, that's what I'm trying to tell you. Sniper."

These are eye-witnesses, people. This is what people are reporting and what cops are reporting. Notice, nobody says they saw the sniper. There is no video of him. There are people confused, hiding, and trying to make sense of things. The second guy in the video is obviously in shock.

As other have posted, the garage was elevated and they are saying the shooter went up and down. It's not unreasonable. I'm kind of done with this until some new evidence appears. If we can't agree that eye witnesses can give mixed accounts and that those accounts will be shared and reported, often as fact at first, then we will never agree on anything.

You actually expect that Brown was to respond to Facebook and Twitter videos in his first media response during an active shooting?
Or at any point in time until the entire investigation is complete?

NOTE THE TIMES. 8:59 pm. 9 pm.

This unmentionable street-level shooter (White Pants Guy) fired off innumerable rounds at police officers just before 9pm. He shot at least one of them repeatedly at close range, almost certainly killing him.

How many other police officers did White Pants Guy kill or wound with all the (many!) other shots he fired from the street outside El Centro at around 9pm? Eleven officers, maybe?

NB: This was the very beginning of the shooting. Unmentioned by Brown. Who instead said the "sniper" "began firing" from an elevated position. (I will locate the exact quote, which I have posted already in this thread, and post it here again again.)

No, you fool. (Do you even read the posts you purport to be replying to??) I expect Dallas Police Chief Brown to be informed by his own fucking officers that at least one of them has just been shot dead by a shooter on the street. And of course he was so informed.

Especially since this was the very beginning of the shootings, very shortly before 9pm.

Sure, I saw the time. I just wouldn't expect Brown to be monitoring a Facebook feed during an active shooting.
I would guess he wasn't even aware of it until the next day- as more info became available and more precise info could be released.
Barring info they didn't want released, and disino they might release (lonegunman?) to facilitate the investigation.

Are you literally brain-damaged, Burnt Hill? Can you read?

This cretinous or dishonest (which is it?) idea that Dallas Police Chief Brown would have to rely on Twitter or Facebook in order to be informed that at least one of his officers had been shot by a street-level shooter before 9pm!

I hope chief Brown doesn't have to rely on facebook updates to monitor how where and when his officers get killed! But i'm starting to suspect some bad faith tbh..

I think we should make timeline and map together.

I would suggest that this was not the beginning of the shootings.
People got their cameras out because the shooting had already begun, perhaps from the 1st floor of the garage, perhaps fatal shots.
The people with a good vantage point then got oriented with their cameras and caught the fatal shot in front of the garage.

A timeline and a map would be great. Unfortunately, I don't know if we are privy to enough information to make that happen. Perhaps afterward when more information is released we could make a graphic out of it. Guys, remember with 9/11, people didn't start putting relevant pieces together for weeks or months after the fact, and now it's been 15 years and people still debate about the particulars.

I absolutely LOVE now, that we are basically down to guessing the internal workings of a large police department's chain of command. Does anyone here have any actual experience within a police department that can chime in? Or are we literally guessing at the flow of information and how detailed it is during an active crime?
