I think it's the word 'race' in the thread title that gets people upset. If it said abolish whiteness, or abolish vanilla culture, I wonder if there would be a different reaction.
I'm guessing we aren't going to abolish the artifacts of the different European cultural heritages. Pasta, Jameson, German Beer, French wine, Beatles records, etc. Lots of people depend on the auras of the traditions to put food on the table and a roof over head.
My father's father and my mother's mother were both German. They both spoke German when they were growing up, but when I was growing up, there wasn't much German cultural stuff around me at all. My father's mother was Polish and Irish. She didn't wear it on her sleeve, either. My mother's father was Italian, and his side of the family identified culturally as Italian. I didn't, though. And my step-father, the biggest father-figure influence in my life, was a non-practicing Jew from the Bronx.
So I'm like a non-practicing Jew. Although for some reason I feel the most affinity for the Polish and Irish part of my dna. Don't know why that is.
Anyway, there was no point to this. Just typing some garbage before work. Sayonara.
but that the identitarian level of Privilege Politics will never be enough, either.

I think MLK would have been rolling in his grave to see the Berkeley students refusing access for white students to cross a bridge but letting non-white through, all because "someone moved their "safe space"".
