White House insists hackers didn't sway election, even as recount begins

The Obama administration said it has seen no evidence of hackers tampering with the 2016 presidential election, even as recount proceedings began in Wisconsin.
“We stand behind our election results, which accurately reflect the will of the American people,” a senior administration official told POLITICO late Friday.
“The federal government did not observe any increased level of malicious cyber activity aimed at disrupting our electoral process on election day,” the official added. “We believe our elections were free and fair from a cybersecurity perspective.”
Green Party candidate Jill Stein on Friday filed for a recount in Wisconsin and has several days to file for recounts in Pennsylvania and Michigan, two other states whose results she has called into question, citing hacking fears. The three normally Democratically leaning states were crucial to Donald Trump's victory.
Stein’s campaign began fundraising efforts to file for recounts in those states following a report from New York magazine that said prominent cybersecurity experts were urging Hillary Clinton’s campaign to contest the results there. The leading voting security specialist from that group later clarified that there was no actual evidence of hackers meddling with the vote tallies, and said they were simply encouraging an audit just to be sure.
On Saturday, the Clinton campaign broke its long silence on the issue with a statement from the campaign’s general counsel, Marc Elias.
In a post on Medium, Elias confirmed that independent experts had briefed the campaign on potential irregularities that could be the result of hacking, but he said that ultimately the campaign found no “actionable evidence of hacking or outside attempts to alter the voting technology.”
Still, he said, the campaign is joining Stein’s challenge in Wisconsin and will do the same if she requests recounts in the other states.
The senior Obama administration official reiterated the government’s accusation that Russia had directed its hackers to go after U.S. political organizations and political operatives’ email accounts with the goal of interfering in the election.
Moscow, the official said, “probably expected that publicity surrounding” leaked emails and documents “would raise questions about the integrity of the election process that could have undermined the legitimacy of the president-elect.”
The official had earlier provided the statement to The New York Times.

What the fuck makes an idealist "ignorant?" Idealism, I have always associated with "the greater good". Stein gave it a good shot. Explain what is going on in the Wide World of Sports in your head. I did not vote for Clinton but support anything that keeps trump away from ever having to see or hear him again. I don't give a fuck at this point. But the idealism lives on.
I seriously don't know what you could possibly think about "idealism" being "ignorant". Well, off to the star party, after a flight with meaningless science fact in order to navigate the plane to get me there. I will report your truth back. The party is being held on the very edge. Usually they hold the parties somewhat away from the edge because it is so dangerous, as one could fall off.
I ideally hope Delta keeps my telescope safe.

Recount? Why Not.
This election is more than sketchy enough to warrant it.

So, what are we to make of Dr. Jill Stein's multi-state effort to audit/recount the vote in the presidential election? It is not impolite to wonder whether or not this is a way for Stein and the Green Party to finance another campaign in 2020, since she already has said she can't guarantee that all the money she's raised will go specifically to the recount effort. (As I've said, I know her slightly, and I don't think she's simply lining her pockets here.) But, I have to admit, after the president-elect sneaked away with his phone and went bananas on the electric Twitter machine this weekend, I've come around on the notion that at least some kind of effort in this area is worth the trouble.
There's already too much that was hinky about this election. (And I think Stein is making a capital mistake in concentrating so much attention on the long-shot notion that voting machines were tampered with.) The hinkiness started years ago, with the phony charges of voter fraud upon which a number of states acted by shining up old Jim Crow for a new age. There are legitimate concerns about elections that leave no paper trail; you don't have to be a cynic to believe that. There is the Russian monkeywrenching. (Sorry, lads. It happened.) There were the Macedonian teenagers. There was the inexcusable meddling by FBI director James Comey. There's more than enough reason to do everything we can to determine whether or not this particular election was on the level, especially given what we've seen from the prospective administration so far.
And the idea of brawling out the final results hardly began with Dr. Stein, or with Donald Trump, for all that. The Intercept pointed that out a month ago with this interesting flashback to the extended madness of the 2000 election (h/t to Edroso). From The New York Daily News:
So what if Gore wins such crucial battleground states as Florida, Michigan and Pennsylvania and thus captures the magic 270 electoral votes while Bush wins the overall nationwide popular vote? "The one thing we don't do is roll over," says a Bush aide. "We fight." How? The core of the emerging Bush strategy assumes a popular uprising, stoked by the Bushies themselves, of course. In league with the campaign - which is preparing talking points about the Electoral College's essential unfairness - a massive talk-radio operation would be encouraged. "We'd have ads, too," says a Bush aide, "and I think you can count on the media to fuel the thing big-time. Even papers that supported Gore might turn against him because the will of the people will have been thwarted.
So let's dispel with the notion that anything Stein et al. are trying to do is either unprecedented, or that it isn't something that the Republicans would do on steroids if the situation were reversed. Once we've stipulated that, let's also agree that it is extraordinarily unlikely that the effort will overturn the results in any of the state at which it is directed, but that it is worth the fight altogether no matter what the outcome. The country needs, desperately, transparency on as many aspects of this improbable election as it can get because, on January 20, absent an extraordinary intervention of politics ex machina, everything becomes too late. And, regardless of what you think of Dr. Stein and the campaign she ran, at the moment, she's the only one really on the field.
The process will be long and complicated. The institutional roadblocks are considerable; on Monday, as The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports, the Wisconsin Elections Commission has agreed to a recount, but refused an appeal that it be conducted by hand. It will be assailed on all sides by people who, for whatever reason, and most of the reasons are bad, think we should all move on from the recent unpleasantness and walk together into the gilded outhouse of the future. I'd just as soon take my time on that particular stroll, if it's all the same to everyone.

But ya. This flat earth stuff. Why? Why was the "conspiracy" started in the first place (ancient Greeks, Magellan, etc.)? What was the rationale for keeping it going down through the centuries--or actually, 1600 years? Why are all the rest of the planets globes...as is the moon? Or maybe every telescope sold has "fake" pictures built into it to make it seem like that shit is globular. But my main question is, "why?".

Would it require "ego" to criticize not the person who proved your prior comment entirely misguided and wrong, but another who simply asked "What the fuck makes an idealist "ignorant?" and stated, "I seriously don't know what you could possibly think about "idealism" being "ignorant". "
Neither do I understand what seems to me to be your understanding of "idealism being "ignorant." How can idealism be ignorant, if it's ideal?
Btw, "geocentricism" is not a word.
Geocentrism would be the correct word to use, if you don't want to appear ignorant.
whatever they hear in their head
