That's great, but it just looks like slick marketing stuff. I'd like to know details, such as, how long does an AP license typically last for (e.g.) NYT? What happens to the links when the license runs out? Do they just disappear, or does something else happen?

Here is a New York Times article, from September 2016, that sources an AP photo.
I'm looking for other instances of AP-sourced material that predates October and yet still exists on papers such as NYT.

I looked up a bunch of other NYT articles from September and before, and many of them at least source photos from other agencies (e.g. Reuters, Getty Images). So it looks like at the very least visual content does not age out very quickly.

Eh? The photo is AP-sourced (or correct me if I'm wrong). Point is, I'm trying to figure out if NYT and other newspapers have a policy of removing AP content after a month or so, due to normal licensing issues. There may be different policies for photos and text, I don't know.

If it's standard policy, then it's not weird for the Norwegian story to have vanished. But if it is not standard policy, then it seems very suspicious.

Methodology: I brought up the Wikipedia page for the year 2016, and looked for major news for September and before. Then I keyed relevant terms into Google News, and linked to the articles that came up. I hit a pay wall with NYT, but before then: found plenty of images from other sources, but no articles that specifically referenced AP as the source of the text.

The Osiris-Rex article was just the first one I found with AP content.

One month seems like an overly excessive cut-off point, if one exists at all. AP is a cooperative owned by over 1000 newspapers, including the NY Times. Based on that alone, I see no reason they'd impose a licensing restriction within 30-60 days.

The point isn't the photo itself, it is the fact that the caption indicates its source as Associated Press.

Re: the article you posted, it is recent, not apparently AP sourced, and a different subject. The issue here is that several major newspapers have removed articles about a recent CP bust in Norway. They were there before, but now the articles have all vanished. (I actually saw the NYT article before it vanished, so this isn't some troll from the chans.) The only innocuous explanation I can think of is that the story was sourced from AP, and that the articles aged out due to entirely normal licensing procedures. But for that to be true, it would have to broadly apply to all AP-sourced stories. I can't find any obvious AP-sourced stories that are old, but I can find a number of photos that are old and also sourced from agencies such as AP & Reuters.

If it is not standard policy to remove AP stories that are (say) over a month old, then why that one particular story across several major newspapers??

I have no idea what the Times agreement with AP is or why the article was scrubbed. It was gone the later the first day it was published. It drew my attention because we have members who are or were from Norway and regionally, and I wanted to share it here.
It was gone.

Write to AP and ask them your question. Or write to the editor of the times to ask them why they deleted the article.

However, the article I posted has everything to do with this thread.

Eh, well, I've read versions of the same story re: Russian propaganda. The timing of that article is also suspect.

Sooooo...... NYT will run a story about how the Ruskies are trying to tarnish the good names of our trustworthy leaders in the (soon to be great again) USA, but they (seemingly desperately) scrubbed an article about how actual highly-placed Norwegians got caught with their pants down fapping to CP? The timing is, oh, I don't know, suspect? Especially since it's well known that our government officials are officially permitted to lie to us, no?

I have no idea. Do you not think it odd that there is and was no other mention of this supposed event in any European media?

Do you seriously discount the veracity of the article I posted? This tactic has been used by our own government against targeted individuals. I imagine other countries use this same tactic to do away with "troublesome" parties.

Well, now there seem to be some coverage I've been able to locate. And there was coverage I hadn't come across. Reading this I now recall having read the Times article because I recalled the 150 TB of confiscated data being mentioned in it as well as the 51 being arrested.

Police in Norway have filed charges against 51 men suspected of involvement in a massive paedophile ring.

Authorities seized 150 terabytes (150,000 gigabytes) of data, including photos, videos and chat transcripts between members of various paedophile networks.

Known as ‘Dark Room’, the police operation revealed sexual assaults against children as young as babies, according to The Local.

“The material shows the abuse of children of all ages, including infants,” Hilde Reikrås, head of Operation Dark Room, said at a news conference.

“The material shows, among other things, the penetration of toddlers, children being tied up, children having sex with animals and children having sex with other children.”

All of the men arrested live in Norway, but police confirmed they were investigating one individual living abroad. It is considered one of the largest sexual abuse cases ever in the country.

Ms Reikrås said those detained had met each other on the dark net; an ungoverned space online where users can surf with more anonymity.

One of the men who was awaiting the birth of his child with his girlfriend discussed plans to sexually abuse the baby once it was born, police said.

Some of those detained had live-streamed abuse of their own children. Those arrested include two elected officials, one teacher and a lawyer.

Norwegian police reportedly began their investigation after a tip-off from the FBI.

The 51 facing charges can receive a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison.

The Norweigian pedo bust has absolutely been covered in many European outlets, including especially in Norwegian news. I think somebody on the voat thread I linked above actually bothered to put one or two of the aricles through Google Translate (or it may have been one of the Reddit threads on the same topic). Meanwhile, the only media reporting the "OMG Russians are planting CP on our US leaders' laptops!!" are North American media and maybe their counterparts in the UK.

It's like you're trying to find any possible way to excuse the NYT, WaPo, Guardian, etc., who all published the story and then disappeared it, from scrubbing something that is obviously contextually damaging.
