No, that's a pretty reasonable one. The answer is Jeff. Which makes sense.MacCruiskeen » Thu Apr 13, 2017 11:22 am wrote:So who pays for this place?

Re: [POLL] Abolish the "ignore" function.

It seems most/all of the gripes can be subsumed under:
1. People do not behave or think they way I would like them to do.
2. And when I try to get them to think or behave the way I would like them to, they don't!
3. They then even disagree and try to tell me how I am wrong! Repeatedly.
4. Go back to 1.
Surprisingly (or rather not) even those who have strong differing opinions often share and operate under this same algorithm. Those, imho, who have the biggest problems on the board think they can just state their superior opinion and that is good enough. And those who don't see how blindingly brilliant and obvious that opinion is, obviously suffer from some malady or evil ism. When those strange people go on to doubt, criticize, question or even post content contra that opinion, especially a lot of content, this is not a chance for me to analyze, consider, refine and dispute that material, possibly persuading and informing others, but an obvious affront to me, as I am my thinking, and how dear they have the temerity to post material that so obviously contradicts my opinion, which is of course, is true and unchanging. A lot of content, is a lot of thinking! And I don't want to think, just state what I already know for everyone to be enlightened by.

Agreed. I do see what you mean. As an obnoxiously sexy white-male SJW, I would not complain at all if WR got all heavy-handed with the ban-hammer, started swinging it with extreme prejudice. On the contrary, I would laugh and cheer.MRA playbook shit pretty much falls under the category of No Sexism.

Same dog whistle crap as with labeling those who are not agreeing with you. It's such knee jerk reactions that make the threads turn south. At RI if you don't agree with the mainstream echo chamber you're a:dada » Thu Apr 13, 2017 11:57 am wrote:

Neo-Nazi
Misogynist
Sexist
MRA
Trump supporter
etc...etc....
So hey, how about label me as a Nazi because politically, I have more affinity to being Libertarian. In actuality politics solves little in my life and most people I know. Most people I associate with in life do not live with a victim mindset. Most don't look to the government for "solutions" to their problems. It's just lame as hell to constantly, and I mean constantly, see the bullshit extreme labeling of people that you disagree with on this board.
I would disagree with you Mac, this board is not filled with right wingers. There are a few conservatives and moderates. Those folks are viewed as extreme wingers because the left is so far left here they view anybody else as an extremist. They see all opponents or those that differ with the same lens. It's like seeing everything as nails and hitting everything with a hammer. If there were members of the alt-right or extreme right on here they would create threads the OPPOSITE of the Abolish the White Race. I'm still wondering what the final solution is for the white race? AD, what do you think? Gas chambers? Lethal injection? Firing squad?
None of this shit matters much anyhow. I used to come to the board and lurked for years because of the occasional fascinating woo, some good conspiracy, paranormal and a touch of politics. As I age and see the world differently the politics are boring as fuck and matter little except for a few good nuggets here and there. Unfortunately at RI politics are the dominant thing. Logic, reason and rational thought...not so much. We all ought to know when it comes to politics most rational thought get thrown out.

You mean what I and all males was born with is evil and rancid? The New RI is already rancid with testosterone
What a load of bullshit. I'll be damned if I'm ever apologizing for what I was born as.
You Mac, may not be judging AD for his anti-male position. I am.
Same ol' pure BS about how testosterone is bad and how it makes men evil. How men are evil in general. Good grief.
As far as anybody not feeling "safe" or comfortable posting on RI....the board is anonymous and the moderator has stated many times RI is not a "safe space."

Nope, obviously I don't mean that. I'm male myself. I loved my dad and my grandads, and I love my brothers and my nephew and my friends. None of them are or ever were in the habit of seething with resentment at women or "leftists".Karmamatterz » Thu Apr 13, 2017 3:50 pm wrote:You mean what I and all males was born with is evil and rancid? The New RI is already rancid with testosterone
But all this is way off-topic, Karmamatterz, and it's getting very silly now. No one here is asking you or any other man to "apologise for being what [he is]". I'm sorry if somebody or something bruised you, but do yourself a favour and leave it be or take it elsewhere. Certainly this thread is not the place for it. Over and out.

Not bruised at all, more amused.
But yeah, it's off topic. Roger that.
Doesn't seem like there will be resolution to the problem you outline in the OP. I suggest pints of good craft beer to settle this matter.

Oh for fuck's sake. No one has ever, EVER, said all males are evil and rancid.
There is no anti-male position on RI.
MRA's should be banned from RI per it's guidelines.

Since you're discussing this. I'd like to lodge a complaint about the "US Government Rules on Gender Identity" thread. I started it as a discussion thread and the copy-pasta poster in question has added 6 posts in a row and is turning it into a data-dump.
It's one thing if he creates his own data threads, which can be avoided by those who aren't interested, but it's not okay for him to bog down other threads, particularly those he disagrees with, by overwhelming them with tedious, blinkered BS articles that he never seems to defend or comment on.

Practical idea.MacCruiskeen » Thu Apr 13, 2017 11:16 am wrote:Er, no. Stop right there. The New RI is already more than rightwing enough. The Old RI was founded and run by a Canadian socialist, and nearly all of the Moderators Jeff chose were women. Those were the best years of this board, not least because they were by far the best Moderators. It used to be one of the glories of this place that women were so numerous and so present here and so unafraid to speak. And not one of them was disingenuous, evasive, smug, insulting, or a bully. Instead, they took care of this place. Changed days indeed.Karmamatterz wrote:Standard operating procedure on RI is to label anyone who disagrees with the far left position on most things as a neo-Nazi or in cases of feminism, a misogynist.
I'll bet quite a few of the women who you say used to post here check in from time to time.
So...Why don't you and a few of the long-time posters make a sticky post or a frequently bumped thread with a formal apology for past sexism and cyber-bullying, explaining how you've seen the light and are committed to respecting female posters and feminsm and will do your best to stand up for them when they're attacked by bullies and MRAs (who are not welcome), and that the board just isn't the same without the sisters, etc, etc.
I think it might work and I for one would like to hear more female voices around here.

It may have something to do with the fact that I have slept on Jeff Wells' couch.MacCruiskeen » 13 Apr 2017 08:08 wrote:

I have made other IRL connections through this board that turned out to be the polar opposite, completely unsafe. This is why I stopped moderating in 2015 and disappeared for awhile. I don't participate here very often anymore, but I absolutely do need the ignore function for just this reason.
The copy pasta is disingenuous and disrespectful. At best, it's an attempt at message management, at worst, thought control. Its existence is a reflection of what this board actually is rather than what some less agenda driven posters may perceive it is or could be. If I were a mod again, given what I've learned behind the scenes, a number of posters would, without explanation, go *poof*, and I would feel no guilt about it whatsoever.
Be safe out there folks.
Agreed. It's your thread, it's totally appropriate to ask him to stop. Personally, I view his position on that issue as MRA.Heaven Swan wrote:Since you're discussing this. Re: [POLL] Abolish the "ignore" function.
Have to disagree with the "it's your thread" mindset. Starting a thread really just entitles one to remind posters to keep posts relevant to the original post, (if one likes continuity) and shut down the thread if one wishes (if that is even still a thing). "Owning" threads implies some degree of expertise and authority, which is a phantom power and can only be "shown" through ones posts and so is completely subjective. Copy pasta can be annoying, but so can pages and pages of "dear diary" "a few hundred pages from my manifesto" "a bit of chit chat" "rehash of a class or book I read", "I'm drunk as a skunk and am plunked in front of the keyboard", "unassailable personal stories on topics in dispute", etc. Sometimes copy pasta actually includes data, anecdotes, research, interviews, etc. which can actually be informative as compared to someone's first impressions off of something they just read.
So, I would bare that in mind. But as a courtesy, and experiment it might be worth starting a thread asking/informing posters that this thread is not for data dumps (which would have to be defined) but discussion only. Maybe even put that in the thread title? Ex: Extraterrestrial Encounters: Discuss Only
