Hunting vote delayed after SNP U-turn BBC News 14 Jul 2015

A vote on relaxing the Hunting Act has been postponed after the SNP said it would oppose the changes.

The SNP's intervention meant the reforms, which would only apply in England and Wales, were unlikely to win a Commons majority.

MPs were due to consider the change with a free vote on Wednesday.

BBC assistant political editor Norman Smith said changes restricting Scottish MPs' voting rights on non-Scottish issues could now be introduced first.

So, the Tories got wind of a u-turn by the SNP, consequently the vote would continue to veto bloodsports.

Well, goddamnit, that's just not pippin.

So the bloodsports vote is delayed until after changes are made to our laws making the SNP's votes immaterial to the hunting vote.

Now that's what I call democracy.

Student grants replaced by loans

Students starting university courses in England will no longer be able to apply for grants towards living costs.

Under changes that came into effect on Monday, grants for students from low-income homes are replaced by loans.

Previously, students from families with annual incomes of £25,000 or less received a full grant of £3,387 a year.

The National Union of Students said the move was "disgraceful" and meant poorer students would be saddled with a lifetime of debt.

The switch from grants to maintenance loans was announced in July 2015 by the then Chancellor, George Osborne, in his Budget.

After a disastrous campaign, Theresa May is now refusing to take part in live TV debates.

If young voters turn out en masse, then the Tories are going to have to steal this election from Corbyn. The problem with that solution is that the Scots will then saw through Great Britain from Berwick to Gretna while the Irish are busy welcoming the Six Counties back into a United Ireland. Even the English will eventually vote to secede from Westminster. So many people are just sick and tired of being robbed blind, lied to, and dragged into war.

No joke:

Scotland and the potential of a Corbyn-led progressive alliance

No predictions. One can only hope now for a Corbyn victory and the pleasure of May's removal. But either an outright win or a close outcome presents us with the exciting potential of a Corbyn-led progressive alliance.

Corbyn's manifesto is no radical socialist blueprint. But it's still a major statement of progressive intent, breaking decisively with Blairism and steering us away from the harshest excesses of neoliberal orthodoxy. A Corbyn victory would be the greatest rebuke to establishment politics since 1945.

As an alarmed elite and poisoned media make their last efforts to stop Corbyn and deny his mass appeal, his popularity and resilience demonstrates the multiple possibilities of a new united politics.

In seeing-off the most brutal media-led assault ever unleashed on a left-Labour leadership - including the BBC's relentless smears and protection of May - the surge for Corbyn represents a landmark achievement in itself.

Even if the final numbers take us into hung parliament territory, it opens the way for a practical progressive alignment, a whole new dynamic for leftist change, driven by Corbyn, the SNP, Plaid and the Greens.
