Staggering loss of civilian life from US-led airstrikes in

Postby Blue » Wed Jun 14, 2017 6:07 pm

Raqqa, say UN

Congressman shot. UPS "postal" incident. I'm so sick of the media saturation coverage of the selective and trivial, yeah, trivial incidents of violence and death compared to what the US military does on a regular basis.

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2017/ ... qa-says-un

UN war crimes investigators have denounced a “staggering loss of civilian life” caused by the US-backed campaign to reclaim Raqqa, the de facto capital of Islamic State.

The independent commission of inquiry tasked with investigating violations of international law, war crimes and crimes against humanity in Syria said the intensification of airstrikes by the US-led coalition had led to the deaths of at least 300 civilians in the city.

The Raqqa operation began last week with a ground assault by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), an umbrella group comprising Kurdish and Arab militiamen armed by the US and supported by coalition airstrikes.

They have already pushed into Raqqa from the east and west, reportedly approaching the old city walls. Citizens have reported intense combat in areas of the city.

Thanks Blue, more perspective please. I have read allegations of white-phosphorus being used.

so sad

Westerners have a well honed ability to focus on the TV reality star, while totally ignoring the background fundamentals of any given event.
All these things will continue as long as coercion remains a central element of our mentality.

Well, that would not surprise me but really fucking depress me.

I wouldn't limit that to Westerners these days.

Yes. And these are the "moderate rebels", remember. Or so the US military (and government, and media) would have us believe.

Honest and knowledgeable Western reporters in Syria are few and far between. Here are two:

Google search results for raqqa eva bartlett. Google search results for raqqa vanessa beeley

You were wondering why I (and certainly not only I) am so angry at "American Dream"? Take a look at what he has had to say about those two brave women:

AD on Eva Bartlett. AD on Vanessa Beeley

Context is everything. I regard warmongers as my enemy, especially when they pose as humanitarians.

It will take a little time for me to read all of those links. But from a quick scan I see what I have seen here many times before - people blaming the messenger.

Well, do more than "a quick scan", ffs. Take some actual minimal trouble to inform yourself before commenting, if you truly care so much.

It's fitting that the thread title reads: "Staggering loss of civilian life from US-led airstrikes in ". Fill in the blank. It could be anywhere. Could be Russia next, if US "liberals" get their way. God knows they've working on it for long enough.

See, there you go, being an asshole again. This is why so many people will not engage with you.

Minimal trouble? You seem to be under the impression that everyone who posts on this site has read all posts in all threads or will do so immediately by your command.

Why not focus on the topic instead of the personalities here you have it in for? eh?

I'm focusing on the topic. I went out of my way to supply you -- perfectly politely -- with links to two women who care enough about the topic (Syria, Raqqa) to have informed themselves much more than minimally about it, and I also went out of my way to answer your extremely silly question in the other thread. Plenty of people engage with me, people who can actually read and who know what the back button on their computer is for. I even engaged with you, politely and informatively. Mea culpa. All I got in return was your pointless and childish insults.

Now stop wasting my time and everyone else's, because otherwise there is not the slightest point in engaging with you. .

First Link from MacCruiskeen contains this quote from AD:

Because there is a sentiment that "fightin' the Power" means supporting the Russian State and also Syria's ruling elite. The possibility of the Trump regime steering the ship of State towards overt collaboration would seem to be a game changer for those who traffic in binaries.

I don't see anything about warmongering and attacking brave women.

Quote please.

Blue, please don't leave. It's far better to ignore those who cannot accept another holding a different point of view.

The subject is far more important than either AD or the reporters he referred us to,

It's great to see so much serious and ongoing concern about this latest staggering loss of civilian life from US-led airstrikes in. Thanks for filling this thread with so much interesting and informed comment about it. It's instructive to see what people choose to get angry about, to see what really outrages them and gets them "really pissed", sic.

Yes. That skin-burning stuff was used (like napalm) to achieve victory over the Bad Guys, including the Bad Women and the Bad Children,by any means necessary.(It's the American Way.) Those reports were all over the media last week, including the mainstream media, from Newsweek to the Torygraph to even the NYT.

I guess when HRW decides to take something seriously, then even the Newspaper of Record cannot ignore it completely without embarrassing itself.

Right. QED, as this thread proves, yet again again. They also have a well honed ability to focus on their own incredibly precious and fragile feelings, the most important things in the world.
