Elvis was the person I most closely related to in terms of general approach and attitude here on RI. He clearly sees how 'expressed ideals' can and are used by institutional actors to achieve imperial aims. As in the case of the white helmets.
The white helmets are only one devise among many that serve to allow uninformed people to feel righteous while at the same time, in fact being supporters of the continuing production of suffering.
Many people see this, unfortunately the voice of persistent incitement to war seems to currently hold on to the levers of control.
Live well Elvis, may the new year bring you good cheer and better use of 'free' time.
All these things will continue as long as coercion remains a central element of our mentality.
Elvis has been a fun, pleasant, and conscientious moderator. He was doing a great job, why was his decision thwarted? Was it a technical glitch or was his decision overridden by someone else?
I think it may be useful to see giving American Dream a mandatory 6 or 12 month vacation as an act of mercy. I don’t mind what he posts and I like having a wide range of views but he is clearly addicted to posting here, has way too much time on his hands and is socially challenged. The vacation might actually end up saving his sanity or his life.
That said I don’t know why certain other posters are so negative and seem to want to destroy this board. I for one am hoping that this crisis is a form of hitting bottom and will bring some much-needed renewal.
And for heavens sake why can’t people understand that discussing events and issues is not a battle and that we all can learn from those who think differently than us?
Elvis, thank you for your past (sizable) contribution. I hope you’re well, that you’re not leaving us and that you’ll reconsider your resignation.
(What’s So Funny ’Bout) Peace, Love & Understanding
As I walk through This wicked world Searchin' for light in the darkness of insanity I ask myself Is all hope lost? Is there only pain and hatred, and misery?
And each time I feel like this inside There's one thing I wanna know: What's so funny 'bout peace love and understanding? Ohhhh What's so funny 'bout peace love and understanding?
And as I walked on Through troubled times My spirit gets so downhearted sometimes So where are the strong And who are the trusted? And where is the harmony? Sweet harmony
'Cause each time I feel it slippin' away, just makes me wanna cry What's so funny 'bout peace love and understanding? Ohhhh What's so funny 'bout peace love and understanding?
