Exclusive: Jeffrey Epstein’s investment in an Israeli start-up reveals a myriad of links to Donald Trump and Israeli spies.

What we found:

Jeffrey Epstein is an Israeli spy.

He’s invested in a start-up with many ties to Israeli Intelligence.

Two Putin-linked oligarchs own 24% of the start-up.

The start-up raises serious surveillance concerns.

Ties to Erik Prince, Michael Cohen, George Nader and Peter Thiel.

It’s been thirty-two years since the “Pollard Affair” pierced the seemingly impenetrable facade of U.S.-Israeli relations. Now, two suspected Israeli agents are in jail – indicted on separate charges of sex trafficking of minors.

Billionaire Jeffrey Epstein was arrested on July 6 and charged with trafficking minors across state lines. George Nader – a key witness for Robert Mueller – was arrested last month for possession of child porn and transporting a minor for sex from Europe.

Epstein and Nader share a personal network that includes Donald Trump, Benjamin Netanyahu, Erik Prince, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman and his UAE counterpart, Mohamed Bin Zayed.

But their association goes further than powerful friends and proclivities for teenage boys and girls. Epstein and Nader are believed to be agents for Israeli Intelligence. Narativ has independently confirmed Epstein was indeed working for the Israelis.

Both men also have ties to a burgeoning Israeli tech sector which is bringing Mossad-style military intelligence to the private sector and endangering the global balance of power.

The Haaretz newspaper has previously reported that Epstein, who was Donald Trump’s friend through the ’80s and ’90s, partnered in an Israeli start-up alongside former Israel Prime Minister Ehud Barak.

Barak is seeking to unseat Benjamin Netanyahu as Israeli Prime Minister in the upcoming re-run elections scheduled for September. Since 2015, he has been the front-man for Carbyne, an Israeli start-up which purports to be a high-tech solution for 911 emergency call centers, but the platform’s architecture and investors raise serious privacy concerns.

Narativ undertook an extensive investigation into Carbyne, and can now reveal a myriad of troubling connections between the start-up and people connected to Donald Trump.

Ukrainian-born Viktor Vekselberg is close to Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump’s lawyer Michael Cohen. He’s been in business with former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak for 5 years.

Image
Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak (center) with the three co-founders of Carbyne (formerly Reporty). Alex Dizengof, Amir Elichai and Lital Leshem. All four are tied to Israeli military intelligence or cybersecurity.
The Michael Cohen Connection

In addition to Epstein and Barak, Russian oligarchs Viktor Vekselberg and Andrew Intrater bought 24% of Carbyne’s Class A-1 shares through Intrater’s Columbus Nova Technology Partners (CNTP) in September 2017. Vekselberg and Intrater are under U.S. sanctions because of Russia’s malign activities. Ukrainian-born Vekselberg is close to Vladimir Putin and was interviewed by prosecutors from Robert Mueller’s office.

While still employed as Donald Trump’s lawyer, Michael Cohen consulted for Columbus Nova until August 2017 under a $1 million agreement to his company, “Essential Consulting.” Cohen used the same company to pay off adult film star Stormy Daniels, who had an affair with Trump.

Between election day and July 14, 2017, Intrater and Cohen exchanged 230 phone calls and 950 text messages.

Carbyne is a plug-in for 911 call centers and an app for consumers. It provides unprecedented access to a caller’s camera and GPS, providing the dispatcher with a live video feed.

The system also automatically cross-references your identity with criminal or other records added to the database. At least two U.S. counties have implemented Carbyne, with many others considering it.

Epstein is a sex offender and known pedophile. He was brought in as an investor by Barak, his close friend of 17 years. Epstein invested $1.5 million in a company (SUM) with Barak in 2014. All of that money went into Carbyne in 2015. Barak has since been a front-man for the company appearing on Fox News to pitch the product. Barak has life-long ties to Israel’s spy services.

CEO Amir Elichai served in Israel’s elite military intelligence group. Pinchas Berkus, a former Brigadier of the elite 8200 unit, is a company director. Lital Leshem, a co-founder, still serves as a reservist in the Israeli Defence Force. Alex Dizengof, the CTO, worked in cybersecurity for Israel’s Prime Minister’s office.

Carbyne’s investors and members of its advisory board have ties to Israeli and U.S.Military Intelligence, China’s Xi Jinping, Russia’s Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump.
The American Connection

Carbyne also has deep roots in the Military-Industrial complex of the U.S.

Michael Chertoff, who ran Homeland Security under George Bush, serves on Carbyne’s advisory board. Chertoff wrote the Patriot Act, which authorized digital surveillance of Americans.

Peter Thiel, who founded Facebook and Palantir, is also a Carbyne investor. Thiel is an outspoken supporter of Trump and invests heavily in companies with military and intelligence applications. According to Bloomberg, Thiel’s Palantir uses “war on terror tools to track American citizens.”

Trae Stephens, another Palantir alum, serves on Carbyne’s advisory board. Stephens was also chair of Trump’s Department of Defense transition team. Eliot Tawil, a real-estate developer and a major Trump donor also advises the company despite having no background this space.

None of the members of the board of directors or the advisory board appear to have any experience in emergency response. Almost all have ties to Israel and the U.S. military-industrial complex.

Chinese authorities are using a 911 mobile app to carry out illegal mass surveillance and arbitrary detention of Muslims in China’s western Xinjiang region.
The China Connection

Carbyne has ties to China through Co-founder Lital Leshem. Leshem, who remains a shareholder at Carbyne, now works alongside Erik Prince at Frontier Resources Group (FRG). FRG is based in the UAE and is a subsidiary of Prince’s Frontier Services Group (FSG).

Prince sold a majority stake in FSG to the Chinese in 2013. His boss is now Chang Xhenming, who is very close to President Xi Jinping. Chang is also chair of China’s massive Citic Group.

Prince is a former U.S. Navy Seal and a founder of Blackwater, a mercenary contractor. FSG is one of the companies helping to build “re-training” camps for ethnic Uyghurs and other Muslim communities in China’s Xinjiang province. China detains 1 million people in those camps and keeps 13 million people under surveillance.

In May, Human Rights Watch revealed Chinese authorities use a platform not unlike Carbyne to illegally surveil Uyghurs. China’s Integrated Joint Operations Platform brings in a much bigger data-set and sources of video, which includes an app on people’s phones. Like Carbyne, the platform was designed to report emergencies. Chinese authorities have turned it into a tool of mass surveillance.

Human Rights Watch reverse-engineered the app. The group discovered the app automatically profiles a user under 36 “person types” including “followers of Six Lines” which is the term used to identify Uyghurs. Another term refers to “Hajj,” the annual Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca.

The app monitors every aspect of a user’s life, including personal conversations, power usage, and tracks a user’s movement. “Did the family say something religious? Did they exit through the front door or the back door? (Going through the back door is presumably more suspicious),” Human Rights Watch says.

A rare photo of Joel Zamel obtained by Narativ (center), Erik Prince of Frontier Resource Group (left) and George Nader (right). All three men attended a meeting with Donald Trump, Jr. on August 3 2016 to discuss a social media manipulation plan by Zamel’s Psy Group.
Nader, Israeli Intelligence and Trump

U.S. authorities are currently holding George Nader on child porn and trafficking charges. Nader is a representative for the Saudi Crown Prince Mohamed bin Salman and his UAE counterpart Mohamed bin Zayed.

Nader is also speculated to have ties with Israeli Intelligence. His relationship with Benjamin Netanyahu dates back to the Israeli Prime Minister’s first days in office. Nader’s work for U.S. allies could explain why he’s been able to travel freely in and out of the U.S. despite a previous child pornography arrest.

In August 2016, Nader and Erik Prince attended a meeting at Donald Trump Jr.’s office in Trump Tower in August 2016. Nader brought with him Joel Zamel, who served in Israeli Military Intelligence and is the young CEO of another Israeli start-up, Psy Group.

Zamel proposed an extensive social amplification campaign to support Trump’s 2016 campaign, and Nader is reported to have pledged the Saudis and the UAE would foot the bill. Nader would later give Zamel $2m for those services, although Zamel disputes that claim.

Former Special Counsel Robert Mueller investigated Zamel’s Psy Group for its involvement with the Trump campaign, which lasted a full year from early 2016 to January 2017.

In January 2017, Nader and Prince also took part in a meeting in Seychelles. The backchannel get-together discussed bringing Russia closer to the incoming Trump administration as part of an anti-Iran alliance with Israel, KSA and UAE. Erik Prince represented the Trump administration. Kiril Dmitriev, the CEO of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, represented Putin.

Pedophile Jeffrey Epstein has served only 13 months in jail for what appears to be a 38-year crime-spree.
Evading Justice

“I was told Epstein belonged to intelligence’ and to leave it alone,” Alex Acosta, former Secretary of Labor Alex Acosta to Trump Administration.

George Nader’s and Jeffrey Epstein’s arrests, after decades of authorities turning a blind eye to the exploitation of teenagers, suggests a shift in U.S. policy towards Israeli Intelligence. Nader and Epstein were considered untouchable until recently, possibly because of their Israeli Intelligence ties and various cooperation agreements.

There has been extensive reporting on Epstein’s charges and sentencing around the underage girls. But Epstein also entered into a cooperation agreement for his financial crimes. Of note, Epstein cooperated with prosecutors to avoid charges for his involvement in a $450 million Ponzi scheme, which he blamed entirely on co-conspirator Steven Hoffenberg amid allegations of bribery.

All told, Epstein spent only 13 months in jail for what appears to be a 38-year crime-spree. How did Epstein evade justice? The answer may lie in a gentlemen’s agreement that governs the Israel-US intelligence relationship. Basically, spies can operate with impunity, even when committing criminal acts.

Mossad For Hire

Israeli spies are renowned the world for their ability to run complex stealth operations which go undetected. As one former KGB spy told me: “A good secret service never leaves any tracks.” Now, that very skillset has entered the private sector, merged with big data operations, and is being commercialized.

Since 2009, Israel’s spy-tech sector has been booming, supported by the easy flow of capital ferried into Israel by Russian oligarchs. This includes start-ups like NSO, which makes the Pegasus spyware capable of hacking any phone; Black Cube a high tech private fixer; and Zamel’s Psy Group, a social media manipulation company.

These start-ups have influenced elections and politics around the world, including the 2016 U.S. election. Cambridge Analytica used Black Cube to set up honey traps. Harvey Weinstein hired Black Cube to discredit many of his accusers, and the company also tried to frame former Obama Administration figures.

Saudi Arabia uses NSO’s Pegasus hacking software to track dissidents. There is some reporting that Pegasus was used in the assassination of Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi.

Israel has been exporting these services to despots and authoritarians around the globe. The high tech spy companies packed their advisory boards with former generals, heads of Mossad and politicians, creating a thin veneer of respectability.

Beneath the surface, questionable ethics, surveillance concerns, and dubious sources of funding have turned Israel’s spy-tech sector into a real threat to global security and balance of power.

According to Newsweek, the U.S. has identified Israeli espionage as a significant and growing threat in the U.S. going back to 2013. One former congressional staffer familiar with the classified material told Newsweek the situation was “terrifying”.

Israel’s spy-tech sector is funded by sanctioned Russian oligarchs and involved with dangerous criminals like Jeffrey Epstein and George Nader. Their services enable authoritrians and represent a serious risk to U.S.-Israel relations. The sector requires serious investigation. Our very freedoms may depend on it.

Whether or not Tartaglione inflicted or intercepted, is any media asking or explaining why in a supposedly maximus maximum security prison block, prisoners' cells aren't locked and they're roaming around, or did Tartaglione hear Epstein trying to hang himself with his, I don't know, bed sheet or worry beads? (I thought Epstein was on 'suicide' watch anyway, or maybe I just assumed that he was.)

Edit to answer my own question.

Mr. Epstein’s roommate until Tuesday was Nicholas Tartaglione, a retired police officer accused of killing four people, according to Mr. Tartaglione’s lawyer, Bruce Barket

Edit 2; WSJ didn't answer my question now that I remember reading (from an article I posted up-thread):

In a special jail-within-a-jail called 10 South, alleged terrorists, mobsters and drug kingpins are subject to some of the most brutal conditions of solitary confinement in the nation. This extreme isolation, reserved for those charged with the most heinous crimes, was described as “a punitive measure that is unworthy of the United States as a civilized democracy,” according to a former special monitor on torture and punishment for the United Nations who investigated the case of one prisoner held there for three years.

The Jeffrey Epstein Social Network & The Container Ship Crime Wave
July 22, 2019
What does the Jeffrey Epstein Social Network have to do with the massive 20 tons of cocaine seized on a container ship in Philadelphia a month ago?

There are more anomalies in the 20-tons of cocaine seized on a container ship in Philadelphia than in a YouTube video about Area 51.
Image
area-51-4

After the cocaine seizure on the container ship MSC Gayane, a handful of seamen were taken into custody. Everything is way above their pay grade, like they’re extras in an old ‘Three Stooges in the Navy’ movie.

Second Mate and titular drug kingpin Ivan Durasevich and three other detained sailors are all from Montenegro. They don’t hang out with Jeffrey Epstein. Their phone numbers aren’t in his little black book.

Yet lurking beneath the avalanche of elite debris sliding downhill in the Jeffrey Epstein scandal is a simple fact: In every country in the world in which there is a significant market for illicit drugs, the people who control that market are the same people that control the country.

Image
james-peter-friends-small

Were the able seamen busted in Philadephia about to reap a billion dollar windfall until US Customs got in the way?

Or are they patsies taking the fall for the coke’s true owners?

Six degrees of Adnan Khashoggi
Image
downloadAuthor Vicki Ward, whose several profiles of Epstein in Vanity Fair make gripping reading, reported on Twitter last week, “One more thing about that passport the feds found in a safe in Epstein’s apartment with his photo but a different name and his country of residence listed as Saudi Arabia:

“In the 1980s, Jeffrey Epstein used to tell people he was a kind of financial bounty hunter whose job it was to “find” lost or stolen money for the government or for very rich people job.”

Ward reported, “According to one of my sources, one of the rich people for whom Jeffrey Epstein chased down money was Adnan Khashoggi, a powerful Saudi businessman.

What was Adnan Khashoggi doing that made him need assistance in debt collection? According to a declassified 1991 DIA report, Khashoggi was one of the biggest drug traffickers doing business in Colombia.

Image
adnan-kashoggi-khashoggi-906492

Years later, Khashoggi was a principal in drug trafficking flights from St. Peterburg Florida that resulted in the seizure in Mexico in 2006 and 2007 of nearly 10 tons of cocaine. Indications of Khashoggi’s involvement are too numerous to mention. See the Cocaine Archives here.

N120NEFor example, his lieutenant Ramy El Batrawi owned one of the two DC-9’s involved.

Also making drug flights from St. Petersburg was an executive jet, a Gulfstream II (N987SA), that was owned, until just two weeks before the fateful flight when it crashed in the Yucatan, by Russian Mob associate Arik Kislin.

The full story of the plane’s shifting ownership can be found here.

Qualifying for the Jeffrey Epstein Social Network

Start here:

Donald Trump and Adnan Khashoggi are friends. They go to each other’s weddings. Hang out in Aspen.Trump buys Khashoggi’s yacht.

Image
170611-dickey-adnan-khashoggi-hero_hfc0zi

Author Dominick Dunne: “The night before I left New York, I was at a dinner party in a beautiful Fifth Avenue apartment overlooking Central Park. There were sixteen people, among them the high-flying Donald and Ivana Trump. A major topic of conversation was Khashoggi’s imprisonment. “I read every word about Adnan Khashoggi,” Donald Trump said to me.

Trump and Khashoggi are also friends with Jeffrey Epstein. They attend events and parties with trucked-in models at Mar-a-Lago and elsewhere.

! Les-WexnerEpstein partner Leslie Wexner owns Victoria’s Secret. Khashoggi traveled with dozens of women. Trump owned a modeling agency called (of course) Trump Model Management. Originally known as “T Models” it was founded in 1999.

For a while, it’s a thing.
Image
Who else in their circle dabbled in models? Arik Kislin.

Wait… Arik who?

The (Very) Shady Inn Crowd

Arik Kislin is the fifty-something son of Russian mobster Sam Kislin. As a 15 APR 2007 New York Post article headlined “The Shady ‘Inn’ Crowd” reported:

Image
2009-07-14-missingflash_main1

“YOU never know who owns what these days. Case in point: the Hotel Gansevoort. Arik Kislin, one of seven principals in the trendy, 187-room Meatpacking District inn, once ran a firm with ties to a suspected Moscow hit man.”

Image
photo“In the early 1990s, Kislin owned and was chairman of a Manhattan company called Blonde Management, which co-sponsored a U.S. visa sought by a Russian named Anton Malevskiy.”

“The FBI believed Malevskiy to be a professional assassin and head of one of Moscow’s leading criminal gangs.”

Blonde Management owner Arik Kislin’s father, Sam Kislin, is in the Russian Mob, which is big in the Balkans. Big in Montenegro.

But let’s not get too far over our skis, just yet.

Elephant in the room

According to court documents, second officer Ivan Durasevic allegedly admitted to his role in bringing the cocaine onboard the vessel.

elephant-in-the-room

“Upon leaving Peru on this current voyage, he got a call from the Chief Officer to come down to the deck, at which time he saw nets on the port side stern by the ship’s crane,” the complaint said.

“Durasevic and approximately four other individuals, some of whom were wearing ski masks, assisted in the pushing of the nets toward Hold Seven or Eight of the vessel.”

“The cocaine was brought aboard the vessel as it made its way northward in open waters along the South American and Central American coasts,” read the indictment.

The court documents allege that on two ocassions while the ship was en route between stops in Chile and Panama, numerous smaller boats approached the MSC Gayane at sea to hand off large bundles of the illicit drug.

Image

“The MSC Gayane is the largest vessel seized in U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s 230-year history and follows the record seizure of almost 20 tons of cocaine discovered on the vessel,” said Casey Durst, CBP’s Director of Field Operations in Baltimore.

“Seizing a vessel of this size is an unusual enforcement action for CBP, but is indicative of the serious consequences associated with an alleged conspiracy by crew members and others to smuggle a record load of dangerous drugs.”

The MSC Gayane, which is twenty stories high, is one of the largest ships afloat. 20 tons of cocaine is the equivalent of three large African bush elephants. Imagine them bouncing up and down in cargo nets as the ship plows threw the ocean, before being lifted onto the deck.

It didn’t happen.

‘Privilege’ mean ‘private law’

The classical root of the word “privilege,” privus lex, means “private law.” In the US there’s a lot of that going on.

Image
The apparent drug kingpin is the ship’s Second Mate.

The container ship drug bust—one of the largest in history—would appear to have been worthy of one of the legendary names in the drug trade, Pablo Escobar, say, or El Chapo Guzman.

It’s reasonable to assume anyone financing a 20-ton drug move is a connoisseur of the good life. The finer things. Resort living. On the wall, Monet’s and Picasso’s.

Yet a Second Mate’s duties include: being responsible for keeping the ship, crew, and cargo safe for eight hours every day. And in port, monitoring communications, fire and security watches, and anchor or mooring lines.

That doesn’t leave much time for plying models with cocktails in South Beach.

Already you can see the problem. But wait. It gets worse.

“Release the cocaine instead!”

The US Attorney for Philadelphia delivered himself of another of his now-famous tweets, trumpeting progress.

Image

In exchange for a $10 million surety bond, he announced, he was releasing the ship.

One positive development: the American people are getting hip to all the ‘Drug War’ rhetoric. The US Attorney’s announcement provoked a spasm of citizen outrage.

“Release the cocaine, instead!” pleaded one tweet.

“His action was another confirmation that the US has a two-tier justice system. One for haves, and one for have-nots,” another tweeted.

In Montenegro, citizens share the same jaundiced view of the war on drugs, which they expressed when Montenegro’s biggest drug baron named, named Darko Saric, was busted for smuggling three tons of cocaine from Uruguay inside cheese.

One wrote, “Imagine cocaine being smuggled in Pljevlja [northern Montenegrin town] cheese. Pljevlja would be a metropolis, everybody would know about us!”

Image

A Facebook fan page quickly amassed more than 500 members. Darko was hailed as a “Montenegrin Pablo Escobar.” Some expressed disappointment with police for ruining his business.

While awaiting trial Darko’s brother, Dusko Saric, kept the drugs flowing, until he himself was busted.

There’s something about Montenegro

Remember when Trump was meeting with European leaders at a NATO summit last year and for some reason reached out, grabbed a fellow dignitary, and unceremoniously pushed him to one side? Without even acknowledging him?

Image

Video of the incident showed that no words were spoken by the American president, No “excuse me” or “pardon me.”

Image

The brazen snub led to speculation it had been deliberate. Being muscled out of the way by the leader of the free world is not something that happens everyday at a NATO conference.

“The Shove” got coverage everywhere. News outlets quoted author J.K. Rowling, who tweeted a video of the incident, saying “You tiny, tiny, tiny little man.”

The man Donald Trump shoved is the Prime Minister of Montenegro.

As if shoving the country’s Prime Minister at a NATO summit weren’t enough, Donald Trump described the people of Montenegro as “very aggressive” in an interview with Fox News, suggesting the tiny country could be the cause of a third world war.

Trump made the comment on Nato’s newest member Montenegro shortly after his widely-criticised summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin, again raising suspicions that he was simply echoing views voiced by his Russian counterpart at the meeting.

Image

“Why should my son go to Montenegro to defend it from attack?” Carlson asked, to which Trump responded “I understand what you’re saying. I’ve asked the same question.”

“Montenegro is a tiny country with very strong people … They’re very aggressive people. They may get aggressive, and congratulations, you’re in world war three,” Trump added in the interview.

Going to the mattresses

There’s a Mafia war going on in Europe. Two powerful Mafia clans with headquarters in the Montenegrin port city of Kotor went to the mattresses six years ago. An uncounted number of people—well into the hundreds— have died or disappeared.

Image

The Skaljari and Kavac Mafia clans are fighting for control of the main ports of Montenegro, whic has become a center of cocaine transfer from Latin America.

Leading one of the clans are the Saric brothers, Darko and Dusko. Darko Saric was recently sentenced in Belgrade to 20 years in prison for the traffic of 5.7 tons of cocaine from Latin America to Western Europe.

Kotor is a major hub for cocaine from South America. It was home to Ivan Duresevic, the alleged kingpin aboard the MSC Gayane.

Image

The war reached Western Europe several years ago. Recently two men were found dead in the northern German state of Brandenburg. A Montenegrin mafioso was shot and killed in front of a Viennese schnitzel restaurant.

Even Montenegro’s thick prison walls offered no protection. A sniper in the hills above the prison blew away a 34-year-old drug trafficker belonging to one of the mafia clans while he was taking an evening walk in the prison yard.

Smuggling had always existed in Montenegro. State-sponsored cigarette smuggling flourished in go-fast boats which zipped across the Adriatic every night, delivering untaxed cigarettes to Italy, providing the Yugoslav state with foreign currency.

After the war in the Balkans, cigarette smuggling ended, but the even more profitable cocaine trade from South America took over.

The gangs enjoy the support of customs officers and border police. At certain times of the day —during what the Mafia clans in Kotor call “happy hours”—officials ‘look the other way,’ and the smugglers make their move.

Signs of continuity in a changing world

hood

What’s going on? It’s a brave new world. The fruits of the marriage between globalization and organized crime are everywhere. They’re all around us.

But there are signs of continuity as well. For example, in a recent massacre recently of Montenegrin mobsters in—of all places—a suburb of Berlin.

The killers rolled up before sunrise, witnesses said, in identical white Renaults. They piled out, and, wearing hoodies—dark hooded jackets—attacked at dawn. So, not everything’s changed.

Gangsters are still wearing ‘hoodies.’

But there’s someone else close to Epstein— for whom Epstein had twenty phone numbers in his little black book— who shows the way to the people behind the big 20-ton coke move.

It’s England’s Prince Andrews.

Stay tuned.

A judge in New York has granted a request from prosecutors to keep secret documents relating to Jeffrey Epstein’s controversial 2008 sexual abuse plea deal, on the grounds that the materials could hamper their investigation of others in the financier’s milieu.

The documents, which will be shared with Epstein’s attorneys, are believed to concern not only the deal itself, which allowed Epstein to plead guilty to low-level state solicitation charges, but also a clause that granted immunity to any and all potential co-conspirators and named four women suspected of facilitating or participating in alleged crimes against minors.

The documents may also shed light on the 2008 deal, which was kept secret from accusers for nearly a year in what some claim was a violation of the Crime Victims’ Rights Act. Controversy over the deal forced the resignation earlier this month of the US labor secretary, Alex Acosta, who was US attorney in Miami at the time.

Feds probe socialite’s mysterious ocean ‘charity’ over links to Jeffrey Epstein
By Isabel Vincent
A mysterious do-nothing charity founded by Jeffrey Epstein’s socialite gal pal is being investigated by the FBI for possible links to the convicted pedophile, The Post has learned.

The TerraMar Project was incorporated in London and Delaware in 2012, purportedly to raise awareness of environmental and other issues facing the oceans, and exclusively funded by hundreds of thousands in loans by heiress Ghislaine Maxwell, public filings show.

Maxwell, 57, the daughter of the late British media mogul Robert Maxwell, has been accused by three women of procuring girls to work as sex slaves for convicted pedophile Epstein, according to court filings. Two of the women said both Maxwell and Epstein sexually assaulted them. She has not been charged with a crime.

Maxwell was listed as president of TerraMar, and her Upper East Side home was its official office. She pumped $283,429 into it between 2012 and 2017. In that time, the so-called charity gave out a total of $874 in grants.

Between 2002 and 2005, Epstein used his private jets — dubbed the “Lolita Express” — to shuttle girls for sex between his estates in New York, Palm Beach, Fla., and the Virgin Islands, according to prosecutors.

One girl, aged 19 at the time — whose name appears on the manifests of two Epstein flights in February 2005 from JFK Airport to Columbus, Ohio, and Palm Beach — became a member of the founding board of directors of the Maxwell charity seven years later.

Florida ‘doomsday prepper’ dad allegedly forced daughters to have sex with him or starve

She also lived in a three-bedroom, $430,000 home in Teaneck, NJ, that is linked in public documents to Maxwell, although neighbors told The Post they never saw Maxwell at the property.

The Post is withholding her name. It is not known what she was doing on those Epstein flights. She did not return calls for comment.

An FBI source would not say if the charity probe is focused on the question of whether it served as a slush fund to pay hush money to Epstein’s young victims.

Members of TerraMar’s blue-ribbon board included Westchester businessman and UN official Amir Dossal, “Dead Poets Society” producer Steven Haft, and Calvo-Platero, Maxwell’s best friend from Oxford.

Katie Vaughan-Edwards and Ariadne Calvo-Platero, Maxwell’s socialite friends from London, were also listed in the original incorporation documents.

Multiple calls and e-mails to the charity’s past and current board members were not returned.

Larry Coben, a NYC-based founding director, told The Post he couldn’t remember being connected to the charity and hung up the phone.

Jeffrey Pagliuca, a Colorado-based criminal defense lawyer who is representing Maxwell, did not return The Post’s calls and e-mails.
After The Post began making inquiries this month, the charity blocked its public website and made it password-accessible. Last week, the home page included this message: “The TerraMar Project is sad to announce that it will cease operations.” No reason was given.

The nonprofit’s latest federal tax filings show only $583 in total contributions in 2017 and expenses of $18,462. They also show the charity owes Maxwell $549,093 in loan repayments.

Epstein, 66, was arrested this month for allegedly sexually abusing “dozens” of minor girls.

For more than a decade, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office -- and by extension, Sheriff Ric Bradshaw -- appeared immune to the claims of misconduct and plain bad decision-making associated with the Jeffrey Epstein case.

PBSO didn’t negotiate the controversial prosecution deal that allowed the wealthy financier to dodge federal child sex trafficking charges, after all. The agency was simply responsible for monitoring Epstein -- an inmate they considered a “client” -- during his subsequent incarceration.

Well, so much for simple. It now appears that not only did PBSO grant the convicted sex offender special treatment by allowing him out on work release -- contrary to Bradshaw’s own policy -- but Epstein is alleged to have had sex with underage girls while he was out supposedly working at the West Palm Beach office of his shady Florida Science Foundation, or at his home.

An in-depth examination of Palm Beach County Stockade records by the Post’s Christine Stapleton revealed how the 66-year-old part-time Palm Beacher got special treatment from Day One, including his cell door being unlocked and liberal access granted to the attorney meeting room, where a television was installed. He was even allowed to move to a separate, non-staffed area of the stockade after he agreed to pay for his own guards.

This not only looks bad, it smells bad for both the PBSO and its four-term sheriff. So much so, that we strongly agree with state Sen. Lauren Book, D-Plantation, that an internal investigation launched by Bradshaw -- and a subsequent criminal probe announced on Thursday -- into Epstein’s 2008 stay in the stockade are not enough to wipe away the stench on their own.

The only way to do that is by having an outside agency conduct an independent investigation. Book, herself a victim of sexual abuse as a child, was right to ask Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis on Monday to direct the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) to determine whether “someone broke the law or if a systemic failure occurred.”

“If true, this shows yet another breakdown of the system’s dealing with this pedophilic abuser,” Book wrote. “We are calling for accountability on all fronts...”

We commend Bradshaw for opening the internal probe “to determine if in fact the system failed 11 years ago and hold those accountable for any failures and ensure that it won’t happen again.”

But that’s just not good enough when it comes to this case.

It’s not good enough when records indicate that for more than a decade PBSO has been in denial about its lapses with regard to its so-called “model prisoner.” Not good enough when a U.S. District judge cited the “heinous” nature of the alleged crimes as a reason for denying Epstein bail on new child sex trafficking charges. And certainly not good enough when the victims have had to watch as the effort to bring their alleged perpetrator to justice has been fumbled on almost every level. From the publicly excoriated non-prosecution agreement, which didn’t become public until 2010, to now, his special treatment as a jailed sex offender.

RELATED: Editorial: New charges against Epstein bring hope of long-delayed justice

PBSO spokeswoman Teri Barbera offered up the specious argument that Epstein was not required to register as a sex offender until July 22, 2009 - a day after he was released from jail after serving 13 months of his 18-month sentence. Until then, Barbera indicated, he wasn’t an official sex offender.

That’s laughable since Palm Beach County Circuit Judge Deborah Dale Pucillo designated Epstein a sex offender in 2008 when she accepted his guilty plea.

We’re heartened to see that Book, a vocal advocate for child sexual assault survivors, is refusing to back down on her insistence that DeSantis bring in FDLE. Especially in light of the dozen or so threats she’s received since calling for the outside scrutiny. One of the missives reads ominously: “Little girl you don’t know what you’re getting into.”

To ensure public confidence, DeSantis, who last month signed human trafficking legislation sponsored by Book, must sign off on her request to have the FDLE do its own probe -- just as the agency did with the Broward County Sheriff’s Office response to the massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

To be fair, the Post Editorial Board has criticized the governor for being ham-handed in the way he’s gone after some local officials he’s not happy with. But never when it comes to the safety of children.

Epstein’s dozens of alleged victims were teen-aged girls, who are now young women forever scarred by their ordeal at the hands of a predator. They have been victimized enough.

DeSantis has said that he would “certainly consider” an investigation but that he has yet to decide how the state should respond.

“I’ve got to figure out what the proper role of FDLE [is],” he said. ”... Clearly when you look at how that happened, if even like 10 percent of the things about him are true, then that whole agreement was obviously suspect and willfully below what he should have faced.”

“The proper role” of FDLE is unmistakable: To independently investigate in a clear-eyed, unbiased way what went wrong during Epstein’s incarceration. Hold those responsible accountable for any lapses or abuses that occurred.

We owe the victims at least that much.

For weeks even in the mainstream prime time media shows, they've had their 'experts' speculate that the reason the SDNY Public Corruption Unit was handed this task is that the case involves a lot of powerful public officials. Not wanting to "spook" a number of possible high profile suspects could be part of it. Tho others worry that Epstein will some how get off, or at least be made the sacrificial lamb and all other parties will get away

Also it's crazy, the Epstein/Wexner thing being investigated seems to be putting a lot of investor and public scrutiny on "L Brands", which owns quite a bit of the big name stores at malls across America. If you go to any mall, you'll see a lot of stores ran by Wexner. It seems there is enough smoke for Epstein's connection to Victoria Secret, Wexner and L Brands in general to be happening.
The weird offshore stuff and "ocean charity" investigations add another international layer of how deep and far reaching the tentacles of this case go.

I don't think anyone can truly predict just how vast this rotten wormhole goes to, especially when last week the media was reporting some of the absolute biggest names(well known and lesser known) who run Wall Street are deep in bed with Epstein still. Not surprised Epstein is connected to, of all people Adnan Kasshoggi.

We are witnessing in real time what may prove to be the most far reaching (real) deep state/intel/technology/wall street/corporate/international spiderweb unfolding in 2019, connected to a
bonafide "elite pedo ring" that seems to now be revealing itself for whatever reason...either allowed to be revealed, or there's good people on the inside sick of all this horror

Both fictional and actual "conspiracy" roadmap for this territory

Good morning from New York.

The judge recently ordered the parties to come up with a trial date today, but scheduling aside, will we also learn more about Jeffrey Epstein’s alleged incident and suicide watch in MCC?

Prosecutor proposes a discovery deadline of Oct. 31 to complete discovery, with one limited exception.

Proposed trial date would be June 2020. Four to six weeks, carrying into July.

Defense calls dates

Epstein's counsel proposes trial after Labor Day 2020.agreeable.

Judge Berman excludes time until June 8, 2020, but he says they will revisit the issue of trial scheduling in the future.

Oral argument for motions scheduled for Oct. 28, 2019 at 10 a.m.

Hearing adjourned without new details on the alleged incident.

Sum up of hearing: tentative trial date of June 8.

Next big hearing on Oct. 28, unclear yet what oral arguments may be about.

Epstein was in court wearing a brown T-shirt underneath his usual prison scrubs.

Clarification: Berman excluded time from the speedy trial clock until June 8, 2020, in the event of a possible trial, but he did not explicitly call that a provisional trial date.

We'll learn more about exact timing in the future.
