The former Supreme Court Justice Jonathan Sumption, QC, has denounced the police response to the coronavirus, saying the country is suffering 'collective hysteria'. This is an edited transcript of his interview with BBC Radio 4's World at One programme earlier today.

BBC interviewer Jonny Dymond 'A hysterical slide into a police state. A shameful police force intruding with scant regard to common sense or tradition. An irrational overreaction driven by fear.' These are not the accusations of wild-eyed campaigners, they come from the lips of one our most eminent jurists Lord Sumption, former Justice of the Supreme Court. I spoke to him just before we came on air.

I don't want to make light of the good points made in that article.

But I just want to say....

I post on a footy discussion board in Australia where there is an automatic swear filter on the word cunt.

It's replaced by the word campaigner.

And I've been posting on and off for a long time so there's this Pavlovian thing where I'll read campaigner as cunt and vice versa.

It's always funny to read sentences like that.

That one is brilliant. Thanks for the laugh.

the current financial system is a bit like those memes of guys on bicycles in India somewhere with 2 goats riding pillion & a dozen baskets perched precariously on the handle-bars. The "Its-just-the-flu" merchants do have sort of a point - its only a pot-hole in the road that the bikes front wheel just hit, not a 20 foot deep pit but that's missing the point of the very small amount of force required to bring about the collapse of a very large system once it has achieved a sufficiently unstable or unsustainable condition.

Fears of shortages are driving many countries to take increasingly devious measures to secure masks and tests

Exactly.

If it wasn't this it would have been something else.

A sparrow farting in Greenland.

A whale breaching somewhere.

Some random sunrise next week.

Trump getting re elected.

Trump not getting re elected.

More wildfires.

Some un long expected virus.

It's heavy on graphics but I will omit them because I care about your load times and fuck it, you've already clicked the link anyway. Key points:

Recently there has been a proliferation of modeling work which has been used to make the point that if we can stay inside, practice extreme social distancing, and generally lock-down nonessential parts of society for several months, then many deaths from COVID-19 can be prevented.

For example, a new study by Christopher J.L. Murray at the University of Washington models hospital and ICU utilization and deaths over a 4 month period of mitigations, and estimates that “Total deaths” can be kept under 100,000.

...

Hiding infections in the future is not the same as avoiding them

A keen figure-reader will notice something peculiar in Kristof’s figure. At the tail end of his “Social distancing for 2 months” scenario, there is an intriguing rise in the number of infections (could it be exponential?), right before the figure ends. That’s because of an inevitable feature of realistic models of epidemics; once transmission rates return to normal, the epidemic will proceed largely as it would have without mitigations, unless a significant fraction of the population is immune (either because they have recovered from the infection or because an effective vaccine has been developed), or the infectious agent has been completely eliminated, without risk of reintroduction. In the case of the model presented in Kristof’s article, assumptions about seasonality of the virus combined with the longer mitigation period simply push the epidemic outside the window they consider.

...

Unfortunately, extreme mitigation efforts which end (even gradually) reduce the number of deaths only by 1% or so; as the mitigation efforts let up, we still see a full-scale epidemic, since almost none of the population has developed immunity to the virus.

Seasonal variability? Probably won't happen. Herd immunity? Open question and a dangerous bet. Vaccines? The math is not on our side. And that, that is the key bet behind all of these "flatten the curve" models -- that big pharma will ride to the rescue in time. Yet it's demonstrably already too late.

It's increasingly clear that what happened here has broken the world and that needs to be grappled with instead of obfuscated. The cost of maintaining lockdowns is unbearable on every level, and the cost of reversing them is politically unthinkable. We're already off every map. And this isn't even close to the worst thing that's gonna happen in the next ten years.

The future is the only place we can hide these infections given the limits we have on our medical systems.

In Australia we are gambling that we can manage it by doing this lock down bullshit. The economy is fucked anyway. We're so dependent on China, we were smashed by the fire season and ongoing climate meltdowns. But we're a long way away, have some control on our borders right now and seem to be managing our infection rates. This is a convenient excuse for the government in a lot of ways. It hides their mismanagement and if somehow things aren't as bad as where you guys live for example they'll come out smelling like roses instead of what you feed to roses. It's a bit of a Claytons lockdown. (The lockdown you have when you're not having a lockdown. Look it up.). Buying beer is considered an essential activity. Hairdressing isn't. It's weird, but not as mental as other places. If our figures are accurate, which I doubt but who knows ... We're doing lots more testing than we have positives and we have few cases that don't fit a traceable chain of infection. So far so good.

We might lose it soon be a use there are definitely untraceable cases, community transmission, so its out there.

However if we manage our rate of infections we may be able to minimise the death, especially among the medical profession. And people without Covid 19 who die because of the overwhelmed medical system.

This is the bullshit in that comorbidity or other deaths would happen anyway argument. They might not but because of the pressures this added disease puts on medical systems they certainly will now.

Plus it does buy us time. Time to produce more hydrochlorowjatever it is for example. Time to build more equipment, for people to survive or not on respirators without someone else waiting. Time to test vaccines, even if it's too quickly. The people at the synchrotron in Melbourne tpreckon they have mapped the entire surface of the virus and are making it public, open source for the whole world to use. This is good.

They are excited about a particular structure of proteins that may effective in this case.

If you follow that GoF research or the potential of this virus to develop what's called Antibody Dendent Enhancement, a full scale "3D" map of the surface of the virus makes it easier to develop antibodies that will not enhance the viruses ability to access cells. Time to do that.

Even without that ... young people need ventilators too. They make up most of the small percentage that survive them. We want to avoid having to make those choices. We want to minimise the damage to our medical systems, psyche as a nation, sense of ethics and to individual people and families.

We're already talking about when this should end, how bad things will get etcetc, but what are the limits of the states power and the limits of the way we value things. This can only be good for us after what we went thru last fire season.

We could be about to fall off a cliff, we know that as well.

But I look at the USA and think... You guys are fucked anyway. No offence but ... Capitalism and pandemics don't mix. Your country has a shortage of medical PPE and yet stuff that's being made there is being shipped offshore till (I presume) Russians sell it back to you.

In some ways you might be right, you're gonna lose maybe 10% of the people who get infected, maybe less or more who knows and a good chunk of the best of your medical profession. Bite the bullet and get it over with and the sooner you start rebuilding or fighting over whatever comes next.

from Apr. 3 update:

The German Robert Koch Institute now even advises against autopsies of test-positive deceased persons because the risk of droplet infection by aerosols is allegedly too high. In many cases, this means that the real cause of death can no longer be determined.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gSn_YaOYYcY (in German)

A specialist in pathology comments, "Who might think evil of it! Up to now, it has been a matter of course for pathologists to carry out autopsies with appropriate safety precautions even in the case of infectious diseases such as HIV/AIDS, hepatitis, tuberculosis, PRION diseases, etc. It is quite remarkable that in a disease that is killing thousands of patients all over the world and bringing the economy of entire countries to a virtual standstill, only very few autopsy findings are available (six patients from China). From the point of view of both the epidemic police and the scientific community, there should be a particularly high level of public interest in autopsy findings. However, the opposite is the case. Are you afraid of finding out the true causes of death of the positively tested deceased? Could it be that the numbers of corona deaths would then melt away like snow in the spring sun?"

Today I broke my big brother quarantine containment prison and went to the store(with face scarve/vent mask of course) and it was wild seeing all these normie yuppies, yoga moms and average joes now wearing face coverings and masks. It's almost like these suburbanites are starting to realize that yes, society and the entire financial system is on the brink of total collapse within months. Literally across from Target and Dollar Tree at the main redneck Sportsmans gun store today I saw all sorts of suburbanites streaming in and out when its normally just the typical 30 something goatee rural redneck types. Back in Target, over the speaker every 5 minutes in between bleating hipster pop songs was a voice saying something like please observe the CDC guideline of 6 foot social distancing". Soon people will be begging to have Apple implant vaccination chips and who knows what else.

Seeing the headlines of more Kennedy family members dead in another mysterious accident, mass locust plagues in the middle east and a comet hurtling toward Earth seems par for the course in the Twilight Zone of 2020. COVID-9/11 might be leading society to literally beg for martial law and their rights to be taken away, but it ain't a stretch to think the horror show orchestra is just tuning its instruments. Even climate change denying Fox tonight had to report that scientists are saying this years hurricane season in America could be catastrophic(not good when people are told they cant leave their house because of Corona/Covid/Costco)

For the first time in about a decade I been cynically tuning into Alex Jones vlogs, and I gotta say while I dont like his right wing slant on stuff, he's pretty much spot on I feel with whats going on. Of course the elites would use a bioweapon pandemic for the final phase of all this shit. Hell the Simpsons predicted how it would unfold

Ohhh look, how cute...the CNN headline this morning...
'Normal' will look completely different when this is all over
https://www.cnn.com/2020/04/04/politics ... index.html

Suddenly the idea of Apple-Amazon-Facebook-Google merging with the communist Chinese and globalist deep state to control every aspect of your life doesnt seem so nuts. I almost felt naive thinking Bernie Sanders could save us from the A.I. cosmic horror show to come

I will say it....is there a racial genome attacking component of "COVID", like a bioweapon? Why the fuck is it that virtually every image of dead Covid-19 victims are Black or Latino in America? Yeah people can pontificate about "well you see, decades of inequality and"...it's a fucking genome targetting bioweapon, airborne at this point. The elite are releasing it in different strains I feel. They won't release the full on airborne plague/ebola shit yet, but if you look at all the bizarre different symptoms that are completely different in various regions. You look at how all the big celebs like Tom Hanks, Pink, Boris Johnson, Chris Cuomo, Prince Charles just have quick mild symptoms allegedly but then are fine...but like 8000 Americans, primarily black/latino but even young white people....I dont know. I dont agree with the right wing in that its a hoax, I think its a multi-part engineered pandemic.

Even the goddamn WashingtonPost yesterday questioned the real origins of COVID-19 and if it could have escaped from a lab.

His Ted Talks laying out the depopulation pandemic goal is one thing, but the dude was balls deep with Epstein

I've heard that the receptor the virus binds to, the ACE2 receptor, is more pre event in Han men, and promoted by nicotine.

If it's a weapon it's targeted at Han populations. However it could also be a bad guy virus use to wargame potential treatments being studied in a country full of Han people. Treatments developed primarily for their benefit.

Or it could be a generalised bad guy virus. Either way I reckon it's release was accidental or careless/negligent.

Personally I think that's more likel I've read a few papers on it now and all they seem to do is confirm that bias.
