WILMINGTON, Del. — Joseph R. Biden Jr. has told allies that he has interviewed every finalist in his vice-presidential search, and his advisers are planning an announcement for the middle of the week, people briefed on the selection process said on Monday.
In a sign that the choice is now in Mr. Biden’s hands alone, the four-member committee that screened his potential running mates is said to have effectively disbanded — its work is complete, Biden allies said, and there is little left to do except for Mr. Biden to make up his mind.
Mr. Biden’s political team has prepared rollout plans for several of the finalists, and he is expected to announce his decision as soon as Tuesday, though more Democrats expect it to come on Wednesday. The former vice president, however, has not been known for his punctuality so far in the presidential race and the timeline could well slip again.
Mr. Biden has spoken with the vice-presidential candidates through a combination of in-person sessions and remote meetings over the last few weeks, but the exact timing and circumstances of all of the meetings are not clear. Close advisers to Mr. Biden said he had been directly in touch with all of the leading candidates.
Some of the strongest contenders have been Senator Kamala Harris of California; Susan Rice, the former national security adviser; Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts; and Gov. Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan, who met with Mr. Biden on Aug. 2. Mr. Biden and his team have also closely considered Senator Tammy Duckworth of Illinois, Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham of New Mexico and Representatives Karen Bass of California and Val Demings of Florida.
All of them were interviewed by Mr. Biden’s search team, a panel of advisers and party luminaries informally led by former Senator Christopher J. Dodd of Connecticut.

WEST BLOOMFIELD, Mich. — With Joseph R. Biden Jr. expected to announce his choice of running mate in the coming days, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan has suddenly joined the pack of leading contenders in the home stretch — a turn that has some Democrats in the state excited, but has left others concerned about how they, and Michigan, might fare without her.

As Biden works to win over progressive voters, he has empowered a Washington uber-veteran long trailed by allegations of personal and financial indiscretion.

I saw Condi Rice mentioned again, by a stranger on Twitter. At this point I'd be surprised, and appalled (but of course gratified by a correct long-odds prediction).
Had some pushback from Clinton-Obama Democrat friends about my abundant criticisms of Susan Rice. Excuses, excuses, "multilateralism" etc.; admitted very hard to critique anyone without "helping Trump."
What can one do but speculate, ramble and heckle?
I voted!
LET'S BET!
According to the Official Record, Comrade Brezhnev, having recovered from his cold... wait, sorry, um, Good Old Man Joe, making this decision all by himself, which no one can predict ever ever ever what's on his mavericky mind, suddenly met Gretchen Whitmer last week, surprising the whole wide universe, none of whom ever conceived of seeing it coming.
Sure, sure, yeah yeah, Warren is in the final four. See? Progressive! And Rice and Harris. (As if, the latter.) This is their idea of coalition building. Just send a signal out that you gave the a thought, and they will vote for you. No messy promises, no programs. It's that easy.
If it's a Rice it will be Condoleezza. Seriously. The Bush Mob, Redux Edition, the old war-making neocon leftovers Forever War criminals, and the failed McCain Consultants Club who do business as "The Lincoln Project," have their tentacles all the way into the establishment Democrats' ideological brainstem. No doubt.
But okay, this decision is being made by some ad-hoc home team, a Biden Handlers' Committee (BHC) in concentric circles of senior aides (literally), Obama crew, money men, and, off on the side, dessicated "liberal" Wall Street swamp things a la Dimon-Bloomberg waiting to pick their cabinet posts ambassadorships. Hey, they're going to pay for it! Stop complaining. All that matters is Trump out, etc. etc.
Remember, whoever it is will be fronting as your president next year.
I mean, she will be, if Kayfabe Hitler 666 Team 4-Evah somehow fail to steal it, as they are bragging about doing fifty different ways, every day. (If it happens, god forbid, pay no attention to the massive state-level election rigging and racist voter suppression that have determined elections for 20 years. The blame will always be on "Russia." Bots. They have nasty bots saying untrue things. On Facebook.)
My prediction from the first was that the BHC will choose a perky, right-wing, Midwestern White Lady. Since Klobuchar removed herself, or was removed, that means Whitmer, who is "suddenly" on the short list.

The former vice president responded in kind, praising Harris for running a “helluva race” and reminding attendees that “we go back a long way,” a reference to Harris’ friendship with Biden’s late son, Beau. Harris was California’s attorney general at the same time that Beau Biden held the post in Delaware.
Seemingly teasing the running mate chatter, Biden added: “I’m so lucky to have you be a part of this partnership going forward. Working together, we can make a great deal of progress. ... I’m coming for you, kid.”
