Ukraine president orders full military mobilisation
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has ordered a full military mobilisation to counter the Russian invasion.

In a decree issued late on Thursday, he said the the mobilisation would last 90 days.

He tasked the military’s general staff with determining the number of people eligible for service and the number of reservists as well as the order of the call-up.

I can't find any more info on this. It looks like conscription of all able bodied men aged between 18-60. I say this because of the BNONews tweet reporting men of those ages are being prevented from leaving the country. I remember following BNONews early on in the pandemic during the month of Feb. They were pretty reliable. A dutch agency if i remember right.

This is big news to me. No one expects Ukraine to win this war. A responsible government in this situation would surrender into exile and spare its population the carnage. To actually force men into this war would only be justifiable if it were reasonable to believe the Russians would carry out some kind of genocide on the population once they become an occupying force.

Chernobyl no-go zone targeted as Russia invades Ukraine
Russian forces took control over the site after a fierce battle with Ukrainian national guards protecting the decommissioned plant, Ukrainian presidential adviser Mykhailo Podolyak told The Associated Press. The condition of the plant’s facilities, a confinement shelter and a repository for nuclear waste is unknown, he said.

An official familiar with current assessments said Russian shelling hit a radioactive waste repository at Chernobyl, and an increase in radiation levels was reported. The increase could not be immediately corroborated.

Ukrainian males aged 18-60 are banned from leaving the country, Zelensky says in new declaration

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has ordered a general military mobilization.

In a declaration signed late Thursday, Zelensky said that "in order to ensure the defense of the state, maintaining combat and mobilization readiness of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military formations," a broad-based mobilization was ordered, including in the capital, Kyiv and all Ukraine's major cities.

"Mobilization shall be carried out within 90 days from the date of entry into force of this Decree," the announcement said.

The mobilization also instructed "the Security Service of Ukraine to take counterintelligence measures during the general mobilization."

It ordered the "conscription of conscripts, reservists for military service, their delivery to military units and institutions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine" and other state security services.

At the same time, Ukraine has banned all-male citizens 18-60 years old from leaving the country, according to the State Border Guard Service.

The statement said that following the introduction of martial law in Ukraine, a temporary restriction had been imposed.

"In particular, it is forbidden for men aged 18-60, Ukraine citizens, to leave the borders of Ukraine," the statement said. "This regulation will remain in effect for the period of the legal regime of martial law. We ask the citizens to take this information into consideration."

Some more context: At least 57 people have died and 169 injured since Moscow launched the invasion, according to Ukraine’s Minister of Healthcare, Viktor Lyashko.

“We’re staying home. We don’t want to leave,” says 24-year-old Andrew who had just learned about the travel ban on Ukrainian men. He did not disclose his full name for security reasons.

“I can’t leave now because last update (was that) was that guys from 18 to 68 … cannot leave borders of Ukraine,” he says. “We will stay here till Russians go home because it’s important to us to stay in our homes,” he added. “We will stay with our government."

It's time for Ukrainian male refugees to start identifying as women. If Ukraine is a progressive western democracy it will uphold transgender rights.

Come on, Jack,* how is that off-topic? What's more on-topic here than things Zelensky tweets?

I don't know but if forced to bet, I'd bet it means his English skills are moderate, especially under pressure in whatever understaffed bunker he now finds himself. He probably means a different word, like limits or restrictions or curfew under martial law and the new draft order described above.

Because I doubt he means Ukrainians under international sanctions, which might refer to a couple of the out-oligarchs perhaps. (Hey Poroshenko, we'll drop your charges if you go fight at the front.) Or maybe it's for clearing out the prisons.
