How the FBI secretly shapes movies and TV shows about Bureau
ByJerry Oppenheimer
July 1, 2023
When the FBI’s first director, J. Edgar Hoover, saw that a new film from Paramount Pictures was going to be called “Federal Dick,” he was apoplectic.
These days, the FBI is more subtle, quietly working behind the scenes to offer advice to keep movies and TV on the straight and narrow.
Enter Anne Beagan.
For a decade Special Agent Beagan held the little-known title, “Entertainment Industry Liaison,” perpetuating Hoover’s tradition of making certain the Bureau was portrayed accurately, and looked good on screen.

Branding Hoover's FBI: How the Boss's PR Men Sold the Bureau to America
Minnesota State University, Mankato

Description
Hunting down America’s public enemies was just one of the FBI’s jobs. Another—perhaps more vital and certainly more covert—was the job of promoting the importance and power of the FBI, a process that Matthew Cecil unfolds clearly for the first time in this eye-opening book. The story of the PR men who fashioned the Hoover era, Branding Hoover’s FBI reveals precisely how the Bureau became a monolithic organization of thousands of agents who lived and breathed a well-crafted public relations message, image, and worldview. Accordingly, the book shows how the public was persuaded—some would say conned—into buying and even bolstering that image.
Just fifteen years after a theater impresario coined the term “public relations,” the FBI under J. Edgar Hoover began practicing a sophisticated version of the activity. Cecil introduces those agency PR men in Washington who put their singular talents to work by enforcing and amplifying Hoover's message. Louis B. Nichols, overseer of the Crime Records Section for more than twenty years, was a master of bend-your-ear networking. Milton A. Jones brought meticulous analysis to bear on the mission; Fern Stukenbroeker, a gift for eloquence; and Cartha “Deke” DeLoach, a singular charm and ambition. Branding Hoover’s FBI examines key moments when this dedicated cadre, all working under the protective wing of Associate Director Clyde Tolson, manipulated public perceptions of the Bureau (was the Dillinger triumph really what it seemed?). In these critical moments, the book allows us to understand as never before how America came to see the FBI’s law enforcement successes and overlook the dubious accomplishments, such as domestic surveillance, that truly defined the Hoover era.

The Latest From JFK Facts
Late on a Friday Night, Biden Guts the JFK Records Act
Mary Ferrell Foundation challenges president's order in federal court.
JEFFERSON MORLEY
JUL 1 2023

Vice President Joe BIden speaks at the 50th anniversary of JFK’s inauguration in 2011.
On June 30 President Biden issued an executive order asserting the 1992 JFK Assassination Records Act is no longer in effect.
“With my final certification made in this memorandum -– the last required under the Act – and definitive plans for future disclosures, my Administration is fulfilling the promise of transparency to the American people,” Biden declared, while acquiescing to demands of national security agencies that portions of thousands of assassination-related documents remain out of public view.
“On May 1, 2023, the Acting Archivist informed me that the review process was complete,” Biden stated, "and recommended that I postpone the public release of certain redacted information in the records certified for temporary postponement of public release in the December 2022 Memorandum.”
Biden’s order spurns the recommendation of Judge John Tunheim, former chair of the Assassination Records Review Board (ARRB), who urged the president to implement full disclosure of all JFK files without exception.
Friday Night Lights Out
In a statement released late on Friday before a holiday weekend, a White House spokeswoman claimed “over 99 percent of the records in the [JFK assassination] collection are now publicly available at the National Archives,” without mentioning that “temporary postponement” means that several thousand assassination-related record remain fully or partially classified indefinitely. They include records on:
• JFK’s plans for reorganizing the CIA,
• Significant portions of Operation Northwoods, the Pentagon’s false-flag operation to stage violent crimes in the United States and blame them on Cuba.
A CIA psychological warfare program involving Lee Harvey Oswald, the accused assassin who denied killing the president.
Biden, who voted for the JFK Records Act in 1992, accepted the intelligence community’s claim that disclosure of these forty, fifty, and sixty year old documents will harm the United States in 2023. He stated:
“continued postponement of public disclosure of that information is necessary to protect against identifiable harms to the military defense, intelligence operations, law  enforcement, and the conduct of foreign relations that are of such gravity that they outweigh the public interest in disclosure.”
Under the president’s order all decisions about the “future release of the information in these records shall occur in a manner consistent with the Transparency Plans described in section 5 of this memorandum.”
The Transparency Plan, written by the CIA, establishes the criteria for the National Security Agency to use in withholding sensitive material. Chad Nagle of the American Conservative has described the Transparency Plan as “sinister,” arguing it will actually keep thousands of assassination records secret for far longer than Congress intended.
Biden’s order turns over responsibility for JFK files to the National Declassification Center, an executive branch agency responsible for “public release of historically valuable permanent records while maintaining national security.” The president directed the NDC to
use the Transparency Plans to conduct future reviews of any information covered by the Act that has been postponed from public disclosure. The Transparency Plans will ensure that the public will have access to the maximum amount of information while continuing to protect against identifiable harms to the military defense, intelligence operations, law enforcement, and the conduct of foreign relations under the standards of the Act.”
The “identifiable harms” of releasing these ancient documents offered by the CIA and other agencies involve broad claims of national security that have been historically overstated or abused to justify unwarranted secrecy.
Lawsuit Challenges Biden

Bill SImpich, attorney for Mary Ferrell Foundation.
The Mary Farrell Foundation, which sued the president and National Archives last fall for failure to enforce the JFK Records Act, will be in federal court on July 13 seeking an injunction to block the Biden order.
The foundation’s attorneys, Bill Simpich and Larry Schnapf, have asserted in court filings that the Transparency Plans and the President’s prior executive order fail to comply with the JFK Records Act.
On June 8, the foundation filed a motion for injunctive relief seeking an order to declare the Transparency Plans as void and null, and to enjoin the president’s order.
The foundation has also asked the court to order the National Archives to complete the search of additional assassination records that were outstanding at the time the ARRB ceased operations in September 1998.

[For more information about the lawsuit, visit the foundation’s JFK Record Lawsuit page, or contact Mary Ferrell Foundation vice president Jefferson Morley.

Senate report dings FBI, DHS for not heeding warnings about Jan. 6
Investigation finds agencies did not sound the alarm for other law enforcement agencies

Sen. Kyrsten Sinema is holding up a major aviation bill unless it includes her proposal to require less training for airline pilots.
Sen. Tammy Duckworth, an ex-pilot, says Sinema will have ‘blood on her hands’ if her amendment passes.
Sign now: Tell the Senate not to make flying less safe! Reject the Sinema-Thune amendment to the FAA reauthorization bill!
SIGN NOW
Why would anyone argue for less training for pilots? To find out, we followed the money.
When airlines got bailed out by taxpayers early in the pandemic, they agreed not to fire pilots and other staff. But the airlines found a loophole and offered pilots buyouts instead, creating a wave of resignations that allowed them to shed staff while keeping their bailout.
Now, air travel demand is surging and the buyouts left airlines without enough pilots.
Instead of rehiring the pilots that took buyouts, airlines want to dramatically lower training standards for new pilots (which will also help them keep pilots’ wages lower).
In a scathing statement, the Air Line Pilots Association says it’s “unequivocally” opposed to the changes, which would add “unacceptable risk” for passengers and crew. “It was under this type of scenario pre-2010 that airline accidents were rampant,” the pilots said.
Sinema is not heeding the pilots’ concerns, maybe because she’s raised over $150,000 from the airline industry over the past two election cycles, with industry trade groups in particular being major contributors.
The bill Sinema is blocking would not only improve aviation safety, it would also improve consumer protections and regulate airline junk fees. No wonder corporate airlines are rooting for Sinema to team up with Republicans to block it. Tell the Senate: Reject the Sinema-Thune amendment!

Elliot Abrams Was a CIA Agent According to Daughter of CIA-Mafia Liaison
By Jeremy Kuzmarov - September 8, 2023
Appointment of Abrams to Public Diplomacy Commission Shows President Biden’s Close Ties to the CIA
In September 1998, Desiree A. Ferdinand gave a sworn deposition, in a case filed with the U.S. District Court of Massachusetts, detailing the career of her father, Colonel Albert V. Carone, an army intelligence officer in World War II who she claimed was a CIA liaison with organized crime.
Ferdinand testified in a civil suit brought against the CIA and then-Vice President and former CIA Director George H. W. Bush (and others) by Army Private William M. Tyree, Jr., who claimed he was involved in a drug-smuggling operation from Colombia and was then framed for the murder of his wife.

In her testimony, Ferdinand recounted secrets about her father, including his involvement in arms and drug smuggling to the Nicaraguan Contras in the 1980s through the airport in Mena, Arkansas, in an operation overseen by then-Arkansas Governor Bill Clinton.
Ferdinand identified another key figure in the Iran-Contra affair—Elliott Abrams—as a CIA agent, saying that her father had worked with him.[1]

1956 October 24 J. Edgar Hoover Warns Eisenhower of Communist Infiltration of Civil Rights Movement FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover waged a long, vicious, often illegal, and partly secret campaign against the civil rights movement. On this day, he warned President Dwight D. Eisenhower about Communist infiltration of the movement.
Hoover also had the Bureau prepare a report, “The Communist Party and the Negro.” Eisenhower needed little persuading, since he never fully supported civil rights. Apart from a few African-American Party members, the Communist Party never made any headway with the civil rights movement.
The FBI’s most notorious effort was its vendetta against Rev. Martin Luther King. On December 23, 1963, the FBI adopted a plan to “neutralize” him as a civil rights leader. And on November 21, 1964, it distributed an anonymous letter to King and his wife, which included a tape recording purporting to document King having extramarital affairs. The letter strongly suggested to King that he commit suicide. The notorious letter is current sealed under court order and not available to researchers.

" We're continuing our National Security Whistleblowers series on Worldview . Sibel Deniz Edmonds is a former FBI translator who says she saw evidence of "criminal activities involving US officials." After she blew the whistle, the government used the "State Secrets Privilege" to silence her in court. Sibel first came to public awareness in a 2002 60 Minutes piece , and much of what is known about allegations came from a 2005 Vanity Fair article by British journalist David Rose. (It even prompted a letter of complaint from Dennis Hastert's lawyer. Hastert was implicated in the allegations of bribery and corruption by Turkish agents) After the Supreme Court refused to hear her case, upholding its dismissal on State Secrets grounds, Sibel's story disappeared from the media. But this year was different. In January, the British Sunday Times newspaper published an explosive three-part series into Sibel's allegations . On Worldview today, we talk to Joe Lauria, an investigative journalist who worked on the Sunday Times series and we'll hear the first part of Producer Jonah Meadows' interview with Sibel. "

Pacifying the Homeland: Intelligence Fusion and Mass Supervision
Brendan McQuade
2019, University of California Press
The United States has poured over a billion dollars into a network of interagency intelligence centers called “fusion centers.” These centers were ostensibly set up to prevent terrorism, but politicians, the press, and policy advocates have criticized them for failing on this account. So why do these security systems persist? Pacifying the Homeland travels inside the secret world of intelligence fusion, looks beyond the apparent failure of fusion centers, and reveals a broader shift away from mass incarceration and toward a more surveillance- and police-intensive system of social regulation. Provided with unprecedented access to domestic intelligence centers, Brendan McQuade uncovers how the institutionalization of intelligence fusion enables decarceration without fully addressing the underlying social problems at the root of mass incarceration. The result is a startling analysis that contributes to the debates on surveillance, mass incarceration, and policing and challenges readers to see surveillance, policing, mass incarceration, and the security state in an entirely new light.

Episode 1107: Mass surveillance and social regulation.
Surveillance is only about security insofar as it's about the security of the system. It's about the security of property, it's about the security of continued accumulation of capital. It's not about our safety in the sense most people think about it - Are you free from want? Are your basic needs met? Surveillance is not geared towards that. Surveillance is geared towards managing people, socially sorting them to fulfill the different roles that the system demands of them.

A Law Unto Itself: Power, Politics and the IRS
Author David Burnham called the Internal Revenue Service "the single, most powerful instrument of social control in the United States." He examined the organization in his book A Law Unto Itself: Power, Politics, and the IRS. Burnham, a former journalist of the New York Times, compared the IRS to the New York Police Department, which he covered in the 1960s and 1970s. He compared the authority vested in a police officer to the authority of IRS agents. He stated that any organization with such authority delegated at low levels is subject to abuses and a prime candidate for poor management. A four-year project, Burnham's work was highly researched

5 officers who were fired, forced out from law enforcement back on the job
An investigation by The Badger Project found five officers working in northern Wisconsin who had been fired or forced out from another law enforcement agency.

Wandering officers — police who get fired or forced out from one department, then go work at another department — can be an issue in law enforcement.
To help prevent these officers from bouncing between agencies, the Wisconsin Department of Justice maintains a database where law enforcement agencies can flag officers they fired or forced out. Police and sheriffs departments can check the database when they consider hiring a new officer.
The Wisconsin State Legislature also passed a law in 2021 that requires law enforcement agencies to maintain a work history file for each employee and creates a procedure for law enforcement agencies, jails and juvenile detention facilities to receive and review an officer candidate’s file from previous employers.

Grassley Obtains & Releases FBI Record Alleging VP Biden Foreign Bribery Scheme
Grassley, Comer to continue joint inquiry into FBI handling of significant, politically charged investigations
WASHINGTON – Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) today released an unclassified FBI-generated record describing an alleged criminal scheme involving then-Vice President Joe Biden and a Ukrainian business executive. Grassley acquired the record, an FD-1023, via legally protected disclosures by Justice Department whistleblowers.
“For the better part of a year, I’ve been pushing the Justice Department and FBI to provide details on its handling of very significant allegations from a trusted FBI informant implicating then-Vice President Biden in a criminal bribery scheme. While the FBI sought to obfuscate and redact, the American people can now read this document for themselves, without the filter of politicians or bureaucrats, thanks to brave and heroic whistleblowers. What did the Justice Department and FBI do with the detailed information in the document? And why have they tried to conceal it from Congress and the American people for so long? The Justice Department and FBI have failed to come clean, but Chairman Comer and I intend to find out,” Grassley said.
“The FBI’s Biden Bribery Record tracks closely with the evidence uncovered by the Oversight Committee’s Biden family influence peddling investigation. In the FBI’s record, the Burisma

William Pepper, the Kings' lawyer, told jurors Jowers was part of a vast conspiracy involving the Mafia and agents of the federal government. He said King was targeted because of his opposition to the Vietnam War and plans for a huge march on Washington.
A cover-up following the assassination in Memphis in 1968 involved the FBI, CIA, the media and Army intelligence, as well as many state and city officials, Pepper said. He told the jurors they could rewrite history with a conspiracy verdict
The order to kill King, Pepper said, came from the head of organized crime in New Orleans to a Memphis produce dealer who got Jowers to handle the payoff and murder weapon. An Army sniper squad was in place to shoot King if the Mafia hit failed, Pepper said.

University of Georgia pulls out of ‘Cop City’ lawsuit requesting public records
Dean of law school orders first amendment clinic to curtail core work, including on Atlanta Police Foundation case
Timothy Pratt Fri 17 May 2024
The dean at the University of Georgia’s law school has ordered its first amendment law clinic to cease all work related to public records law – including a lawsuit against the Atlanta Police Foundation, the non-profit organization behind a planned $109m training center colloquially known as Cop City.
Dean Peter B “Bo” Rutledge gave the order to clinic director Clare R Norins within weeks of the clinic’s February announcement that one of its attorneys would be representing the digital news outlet Atlanta Community Press Collective, or ACPC, and the Chicago-based digital transparency research organization Lucy Parsons Labs in a lawsuit against the police foundation. Both groups filed the suit after making numerous queries to the organization under Georgia’s open records act, only to be ignored.
Ed Vogel, a researcher at Lucy Parsons Labs and a plaintiff, called the timing of the decision “alarming”, adding that Rutledge “has a responsibility to be completely transparent about why it was made”.
The police foundation’s attorney in the lawsuit is Harold Melton, a former Georgia supreme court chief justice who graduated from UGA and now teaches at the school.
Norins told plaintiffs in a 5 April Microsoft Teams meeting that the law school clinic was stopping all open records work because the school itself “is subject to open records requests, thus creating a conflict of interest”, said Matt Scott, an editor at the ACPC. “This made no sense to me.”
Rutledge later sent the Guardian a statement asserting that the move was “part of ongoing efforts to align the First Amendment Clinic’s activities more closely with the institution’s educational mission”.
This is “puzzling” given that the clinic’s own website says the issues it focuses on include “government transparency”, and “that transparent government is essential to a free, open and democratic society”, noted Ken Paulson, director of the Free Speech Center at Middle Tennessee State University.
“This is frankly impossible to

The Informant: The FBI, the Ku Klux Klan, and the Murder of Viola Liuzzo Paperback – November 30, 2011
by Gary May (Author)
In The Informant, historian Gary May reveals the untold story of the murder of civil rights worker Viola Liuzzo, shot to death by members of the violent Birmingham Ku Klux Klan at the end of Martin Luther King’s historic Voting Rights March in 1965. The case drew national attention and was solved almost instantly, because one of the Klansman present during the shooting was Gary Thomas Rowe, an undercover FBI informant. At the time, Rowe’s information and subsequent testimony were heralded as a triumph of law enforcement. But as Gary May reveals in this provocative and powerful book, Rowe’s history of collaboration with both the Klan and the FBI was far more complex.
Based on previously unexamined FBI and Justice Department Records, The Informant demonstratesthat in their ongoing efforts to protect Rowe’s cover, the FBI knowingly became an accessory to some of the most grotesque crimes of the Civi

Stephen Flemmi murders at hands of FBI Informant Whitey Bulger

Fallen mobster Stephen “The Rifleman” Flemmi coldly recalled yesterday how he yanked the teeth out of the lifeless bodies of blond beauty Debra Davis and troubled Deborah Hussey after serving them up to South Boston mob monster James “Whitey” Bulger – who strangled them both.
Flemmi, a 75-year-old lifer testifying this week in U.S. District Court in three wrongful-death cases brought against the FBI, took the stand yesterday showing no remorse and detailed the brutal demise of Davis, his girlfriend.
Davis, 26, knew too much about Bulger’s link to now-disgraced FBI agent John Connolly, Flemmi had said Thursday

Danny Casolaro: 64 Stories,Part 1
by Christian Bell
In the weeks before his death, Danny Casolaro told everyone he knew, don't believe a suicide.  I won't kill myself.  If I die, it's because they killed me.  They're calling me and threatening me.  Odd calls in the middle of the night for months.  I can't sleep.  I'm getting too close.  I'm going to expose them once and for all.  The “they” he referred to was always vague.  Casolaro would tell you, it's all vague, I'm working on the details.  Slit wrists, hanging in the shower, a balcony jump—don't believe it, it's not me.  If you hear I'm dead, it was no accident.  My sister Lisa killed herself and it devastated the whole family—I could never do that.  A running car in a closed garage, pill overdose, driving off a cliff—I didn't do it.  If you find a note, I didn't write it.

January 11, 2022
Honorable Chairpersons, Members and Senators,
I write in support of LD 867. There are many reasons why preventing COVID vaccine mandates until adequate, sufficient safety studies have been performed is the right decision for this committee and legislature.
1. COVID vaccines are experimental
Let me say, first, that no matter what claims have been made regarding these vaccines, they are not "safe and effective." "Safe and effective" is an FDA 'term of art'[1] that may only be applied to licensed drugs and vaccines. All currently available COVID vaccines in the United States are unlicensed and experimental, a.k.a. investigational.
Medicines and vaccines are either licensed products or experimental products. There is no gray area between them in US law. Whether or not research is explicitly conducted, the use of experimental products (including those issued an Emergency Use Authorization) falls under the Nuremberg Code and under US law regulating experimental drugs. As former FDA Commissioner

Documents from an Utah offshoot of the rightwing Oath Keepers militia show that two 2023 leadership meetings of the extremist group were attended by former law enforcement officers, a serving prosecutor and a former elected official.
The meetings – whose minutes record discussions on “Helicopter Landing Zone (HLZ) Bird Training”, “Hand to Hand Training” and the “role of an armed responder” – show how deeply intertwined the organization had become with conservative politics, law enforcement and the legal establishment in the cities of Utah’s metropolitan Wasatch Front region and beyond.
The revelations also show that the November 2022 conviction of Stewart Rhodes over the Oath Keepers’ participation

Remember Ptech? That's the Boston software firm financed by Saudi businessman Yassin Al-Qadi, who also happens to be an al Qaeda bagman, whose clients happened to include numerous sensitive US federal branches and agencies, including the FAA, the FBI, the military and the White House.
A little background, from the mainstream, even, thanks to WBZ-TV:
Joe Bergantino, a reporter for WBZ-TV's investigative team, was torn. He could risk breaking a story based on months of work investigating a software firm linked to terrorism, or heed the government's demand to hold the story for national security reasons. In mid-June, Bergantino received a tip from a woman in New York who suspected that Ptech, a computer software company in Quincy, Mass., had ties to terrorists. Ptech specialized in developing software that manages information contained in computer networks.
Bergantino's investigation revealed that Ptech's clients included many federal governmental agencies, including the U.S. Army, the U.S. Air Force, the U.S. Naval Air Command, Congress, the Department of Energy, the Federal Aviation Administration, the Internal Revenue Service, NATO, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Secret Service and even the White House.
"Ptech was doing business with every federal government in defense and had access to key government data," Bergantino said.
...
Bergantino was ready to air the story by September, but the government had different plans. Federal authorities told Bergantino not to air the story because it would jeopardize their investigation and would threaten national security. According to federal authorities, documents would be shredded and people would flee if we ran the story, Bergantino said.
But Bergantino claims the government's demand to hold off on the story was merely a pretext.
In October 2001, President George W. Bush signed an executive order freezing the assets of individuals linked to terrorism. According to Bergantino, the list identified Saudi Arabian businessman Yassin Al-Qadi as a key financial backer of Osama Bin Laden. As it turns out, Bergantino said, Al-Qadi also is the chief financier of Ptech. The government failed to investigate Ptech in October 2001 and didn't start it's investigation until August 2002 when WBZ-TV's investigation called attention to Ptech.
Even if Ptech was unaware that the President's October 2001 order contained the name of its chief financier, documents seized in a March 2002 government raid revealed Ptech's connections with another organization linked to terrorism, Bergantino said. And again, the government failed to investigate Ptech.
Bergatino's tipster was Indira Singh, who has said she recognizes the separate command and control communications system Mike Ruppert describes Dick Cheney to have been running on September 11th as having "the exact same functionality I was looking to utilize [for] Ptech."
Now, how does Chertoff figure in the Ptech story? It goes back to the turf war of two years ago over Operation Greenquest, "the high-profile federal task force set up to target the financiers of Al Qaeda and other international terrorist groups." The aggressive, Customs-led task force was folded into Homeland Security, sending both the FBI and its minders at the Department of Justice into a tizzy. They "demanded that the White House instead give the FBI total control over Greenquest."
Now, consider this, also from the two-year-old Newsweek:
The FBI-Justice move, pushed by DOJ Criminal Division chief Michael Chertoff and Deputy Attorney General Larry Thompson, has enraged Homeland Security officials, however. They accuse the bureau of sabotaging G

Grassley Investigation Into FBI Sexual Misconduct Reveals ‘Fox Is Guarding The Hen House’
In 2024
FBI turning a blind eye to sexual harassment internally, and in casework
WASHINGTON – Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) is shining new light on the prevalence of sexual misconduct at the FBI, amid continued agency stonewalling and empty assurances from Director Christopher Wray that he would “follow up” on Grassley’s inquiries. Despite FBI’s lack of cooperation, Grassley’s ongoing oversight reveals the FBI is still not protecting its own employees from sexual harassment and is treating child sex abuse cases as a non-priority.
Grassley today sent a pointed letter to the FBI and Justice Department (DOJ). In it, he urged the FBI to own up to its failures and provide the data he’s requested for years. The information Grassley recently received via protected whistleblower disclosures suggests his oversight dating back to October 2022 is as timely as ever.
Sexual Misconduct Persists among FBI Employees:
Latest records show the assistant director who requested a review of disciplinary patterns at the FBI – which found hundreds of senior officials voluntarily retired or resigned to evade accountability for sexual misconduct allegations – left the FBI while he, himself, was under investigation.
“Apparently, one of the reasons DOJ and its component agencies can’t straighten out their problems of workplace harassment is that the fox is guarding the hen house,” Grassley wrote. “The supreme irony of [then-Executive Assistant Director of the Human Resources Branch, Jeffrey] Sallet requesting the [Office of Disciplinary Appeals] review of senior officials retiring or resigning to avoid disciplinary action is that ‘Sallet left the FBI and federal service while this investigation was ongoing.’”
FBI Moves Agents off Child Sex Abuse Cases, onto January 6 Cases:
Per protected whistleblower disclosures, the FBI has reassigned personnel from high-volume child exploitation cases to January 6 cases. Grassley notes FBI’s failure to dedicate adequate resources to child sex abuse cases is a decades-old problem politicization at the bureau is exacerbating. One reassigned whistleblower said they sat “essentially idle for eight to nine months” on January 6 cases while child sex abuse cases piled up. An Assistant Special Agent in Charge reportedly told that whistleblower, “Child sexual abuse material investigations were no longer an FBI priority […].”
“One thing is certain,” Grassley wrote, “The FBI will not be able to remedy its many failings in this area if it treats sexual abuse against children as a non-priority.”
Background:
DOJ Office of the Inspector General (OIG) and Congress have long pushed FBI to address sexual harassment across the bureau. In

Internal Memos: Rampant Sexual Misconduct At FBI Brings Lighter Penalties For Senior Employees; Many Left Before Disciplinary Action
At least 665 employees left FBI, avoiding penalties following sexual misconduct investigations from 2004-2020
WASHINGTON – Hundreds of FBI employees under investigation for sexual misconduct quit their jobs before facing discipline from 2004-2020, according to internal Justice Department records obtained by Senate Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa). The records, provided via whistleblower disclosures, also illuminate concerns that senior officials are facing lighter penalties than line employees for similar misconduct, and call into question the effectiveness of the FBI’s response to sexual misconduct by its employees.

The first document, produced by the Justice Department’s Office of Disciplinary Appeals and titled “Retirements and Resignations During Unwelcome Sexual Conduct Adjudications” found that from 2004 to December 23, 2020:
“665 FBI employees, including 45 [Senior Executive Service (SES)]-level employees have retired or resigned following an FBI or [Justice Department Office of Inspector General (OIG)] investigation into alleged misconduct, but prior to [the Office of Professional Responsibility’s (OPR)] issuance of a final disciplinary letter.”

The data doesn’t include resignations or retirements that occurred prior to the initiation of or during an ongoing misconduct investigation, so the actual number of employees who departed the FBI following allegations of sexual misconduct could be much higher. This report was generated following a 2020 Associated Press article revealing sexual misconduct in FBI’s senior ranks.

The second document, produced this year by the Justice Department and titled “Inconsistent Adjudication of Non-Consensual Sexual Misconduct” analyzes the implementation of FBI Director Wray’s “zero tolerance” directive from December 2020, which sought to address sexual misconduct at the FBI. The document notes that:
