Is something (else) about to break?

Postby sunny » Sun Jul 09, 2006 11:48 pm

In addition to the recent harsh and even threatening attacks against the NYT and it's reporters and photographers over their printing of not only the SWIFT program, which was undoubtedly known to any so-called "terrorists", but also the disclosure of the supposed undisclosed location of Rumsfeld and Cheney,(right-wingers in a preemptive strike?) here comes Peter Hoekstra, proclaiming:

Quote:
..said he was informed about the programs by whistleblowers in the intelligence community and then asked the Bush administration about the programs, using code names. Hoekstra said members of the House and Senate intelligence committees then were briefed on the programs, which he said is required by law.

“We can’t be briefed on every little thing that they are doing,” Hoekstra said. “But in this case, there was at least one major — what I consider significant activity that we have not been briefed on. I want to set the standard there that it is not optional for this president or any president or people in the executive community not to keep the intelligence committees fully informed of what they are doing,” he said on “Fox News Sunday.”

(emphasis mine)

Tom Maguireis perhaps correct to say it's a leap that this concerns domestic intelligence. Perhaps it does, perhaps not. But what is the "major" "significant" intelligence activity that Hoekstra says he has learned about from whistleblowers, not from the White House? Under what authority was the head of the House intelligence committee not briefed of a major intelligence activity undertaken by the administration? And where are Hoekstra's Senate intel committee counterparts? Jane Harman? Were they briefed? And why is Hoekstra making sure his concerns are coming to light now in the Post, the NYT and Fox? Is something about to break?

http://www.warandpiece.com/blogdirs/004522.html

Edited by: sunny at: 7/9/06 10:01 pm

I saw a McDonald's commercial that showed an alarm clock at 7:16 and my first thought was that maybe something would happen on that day.

Ridiculous, but synchronicity does happen.

Sounds to me like the guy's just using the public forum as leverage to get himself a(bigger) piece of the action. Read the leaked letter(I don't have a link handy) and you'll see what I mean.
____________________
Oderint, dum metuant

Hoekstra

Of course, this is the guy who (along with Santorum) was waving around some pre-Gulf War I shells with sarin as proof of 'WMDs' being found in Iraq just a week ago. And probably still is.

Edited by: jingofever at: 7/10/06 1:37 am

Hoekstra and Crazy Curt

Then we reconsidered.

Now another candidate has stepped forward: Dave Gaubatz. Gaubatz, a former Air Force special investigator who worked as a civilian employee in Iraq, has volunteered that he's the "whistleblower."

TPMm readers should be familiar with Gaubatz as the man who Rep. Curt Weldon (R-PA) wanted to lead his great adventure to find the WMD himself in Iraq.

Gaubatz told me that the program Hoekstra referenced Sunday, the "major" activity the Intelligence Committee wasn't briefed on, is a Defense Department program run out of the Air Force Research Lab. Gaubatz said that there were “several programs” there that the Congressman wasn't aware of, but “one major program” in particular. He wouldn't give too many details about the program, but said that "it pertains to WMD and ways to move the WMD."

Gaubatz's story fits on two key points. However, my call to the House intelligence committee to confirm that Gaubatz is the one hasn't been returned.

It fits with Chairman Hoekstra's recent preoccupation with the WMD issue. The New York Sun reported that the tapes have been authenticated and currently are being reviewed by the U.S. House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.

The panel's chairman, Rep. Peter Hoekstra (R-Mich.), declined to give the Sun details of the content or context of the recordings, saying only that they were provided to his committee by former federal prosecutor John Loftus.

Loftus has been tight-lipped about the tapes, telling the Sun only that he received them from a "former American military intelligence analyst." It was supposed to be a routine assignment, but Tierney said he soon realized the tapes had special significance and decided to make them public. Tierney said he believes other tapes, which have not yet been heard, will eventually reveal that Iraq was behind the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center and the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing. Tierney also said that he believes Iraq orchestrated the 2001 anthrax attacks, with Saddam Hussein using American scientist Steven Hatfill as a "proxy" to carry out the mission.

Afterward, in a talk with NRO, Tierney addressed comments he made in February 2003 on "Coast to Coast AM," a radio program devoted to paranormal phenomena. On the program, hosted by George Noory, (who took over from predecessor Art Bell), Tierney discussed a possible nuclear-related facility in Iraq. A description of Tierney's remarks on the "Coast to Coast AM" website says:

Tierney's methods of ascertaining this location were rather unconventional. "I would ask God and just get a sense if something was valid or not, and then know if I needed to pursue it," he said. His assessments through prayer were then confirmed to him by a friend's clairvoyant dream, where he was able to find the location on a map. "Everything she said lined up. This place meets the criteria," Tierney said of the power generator plant near the Tigris River that he believes is actually a cover for a secret uranium facility.

Edited by: starroute at: 7/10/06 4:45 pm

Who sets their alarm clock for 7:16 anyway?

I actually do often set mine for 16 past, or 46, just something a little bit more asymmetrical than the straight quarters. I don't know why, it's just a little quirk and I've done it for years. After all, there's no particular reason you have to set an alarm for the 15, 30, 45, 00 numbers, or the multiples of 5. One could make an argument that using those numbers is just as obscessive-compulsive as avoiding them is.

Yikes, this discussion took place before the isreali violence started. Right now where I am its exactly 61 years and 12 hours, or was when I pressed reply.

I am on the other side of the Pacific, probably about 12 to 17 hours ahead of wherever that Ranch is. I wonder what the next few hours will bring (just more peace here and slaughter in the middle east most likely).
