Robert "Iran Contra" Gates

Postby MASONIC PLOT » Sat Nov 11, 2006 1:16 pm

Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld will resign, reportedly to be replaced by former CIA director Robert Gates. Did you know that Robert Gates was involved in the voting machine industry?

Gates was on the board of directors of VoteHere, a strange little company that was the biggest elections industry lobbyist for the Help America Vote Act (HAVA). VoteHere spent more money than ES&S, Diebold, and Sequoia combined to help ram HAVA through. And HAVA, of course, was a bill sponsored by by convicted Abramoff pal Bob Ney and K-street lobbyist buddy Steny Hoyer. HAVA put electronic voting on steroids.

Look into it and stay tuned for more dirt as I bring it up from this very deep carlyle hole I am finding myself stuck in.

Anybody have a list of Bush 41 names that has ended up on Bush 43's list? Amazingly, it seems most of the same names are ones that have been involved in Iran/contra, or other corruption.

Let's begin. Sorry, I'm going by memory here, hope I have it right that these people have been in both Bush's administration. Some first names slip my memory at the moment. If you will, copy this off, delete any if I'm wrong, then add your own.

The Gates/Steele/Phoenix/School of Americas File

Postby Hugh Manatee Wins » Sat Nov 11, 2006 3:26 pm

Unfortunately, the advantage of knowing about the past is that this usually tells you what is happening now.

Gates was part of the Cold War hoax portraying the USSR as an enormous threat to keep the bucks in the military-industrial pocket and hold the masses in a permanent state of war tension.

He and Bush I and Ollie North were narco-terrorists who ran death squads with the help of current Gestapo Chief John Negroponte who was ambassador to Honduras, a staging ground for training and arming terrorist Contras.
http://www.fas.org/irp/offdocs/walsh/chap_19.htm
(Walsh Report at Federation of American Scientists website)

In fact Congressman Kucinich has outed one of the Special Forces death squad professionals, an Army Colonel James Steele who worked their CIA war in Central America back then and is running death squads in Iraq today. Kucinich even introduced this into the Congressional Record when demanding documents from the Pentagon. Here's his expose of the 'Salvador Option' now being implemented in Iraq by Army Colonel Steele--
http://www.kucinich.us/floor_speeches/iq_rumsfeld_letter4may.php

This 'Salvador Option' is exactly the same as Operation Phoenix that soon-to-become CIA Director William Colby ran during the Vietnam War rounding up, torturing, and killing around 20,000-40,000 Vietnamese in a campaign to purge 'Communist sympathizers.'
http://www.thememoryhole.org/phoenix/internal-security.htm
http://www.counterpunch.org/valentine08112003.html

Daniel Ellsberg in his 1972 book 'Papers on the War' documented how the CIA analysis that almost ALL Vietnamese were so-called 'Communist sympathizers' was very carefully kept away from those on the ground doing the killing so the war would continue despite the futiliity of the slaughter.

Sound familiar?

That's where all those bodies in Iraq are coming from with the hands tied, a shot to the head, and peppered with electric drill holes. This is NOT the "sectarian violence" alleged to be a civil war peddled to the US public to imply 'those religious kooks are just like that' to both cover for US death squads and justify the occupation.

The number of bodies found per day in Iraq is going up, not down.

But that story will soon have to compete with the increase in bodies down in Central and South America as the US dirty wars there are renewed to get at Venezualan oil as a hedge against control of Middle East oil.

The School of the Americas torture school has just been given a mandate to restart training of Latin American 'miltaries' with an October 2, 2006 end of a ban on this terrorist tactic.
http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/2006-11-09-waiver_x.htm

Here are some School of the Americas documents obtained by Freedom of Information Act requests along with analysis that shows the Nazi-like nature of what is institutionalized in other countries by the USA. Unfortunately, it also shows us how military culture see its own domestic civilians, too.
http://www.lawg.org/misc/publications-manuals.htm

I wonder if Colonel Steele will have to share custody over his death squads with a new Ollie North wanna-be? Hey, who doesn't want to be a hero? What's left of you might get a medal if you can stand what is left of your mind. And poor foreigners are used to death and suffering anyway. Just ask General Westmoreland.

Why limit it to those in 43's administration?

Postby starroute » Sun Nov 12, 2006 2:14 am

For example, Ghorbanifar has surfaced again recently, and has been intriguing with Michael Ledeen, Curt Weldon, and Pete Hoekstra.

Or for that matter, there's an article on "America's Worst Presidents" in today's Independent.
http://news.independent.co.uk/world/ame ... 963227.ece. The lead pieces finger George W. Bush -- but if you scroll down a little, there's Stefan Halper championing Herbert Hoover and suggesting that Bush's reputation may rise with time.

I hadn't seen Halper's name in a while -- but once upon a time, he was on the staff of the 1980 Bush-Reagan campaign, working under Bill Casey, and was involved in the October Surprise. (As was Robert Gates.) He was also the former son-in-law of Ray Cline -- OSS/CIA guy, co-founder of the Center for Strategic and International Studies (home base for the Realists), and a top advisor to George H.W. Bush who brought a slew of other CIA people into the Bush train.

Halper was additionally a founder of the Palmer National Bank, which Ollie North used to launder Contra money, and he helped set up a legal defense fund for North when he got caught. The Palmer National Bank in turn was linked to the S&L scandal, got startup money from Herman Beebe, and also loaned $400,000 to the the National Conservative Political Action Committee, a center of Republican dirty tricks in the early 80's (where one of the people behind the recent robocall operation got his start.)

Taking it a step further, Beebe, who had ties to organized crime, was also the power behind Vernon Savings, run by Don Dixon, a close pal of Bill Lowery. And Lowery in turn is a long-time friend of both Brent Wilkes and Kyle "Dusty" Foggo -- which brings us into the whole Wilkes/Cunningham scandal. Foggo, after all, was in Honduras during Iran-Contra, and Brent Wilkes was bringing congressmen down for tours (and probably a little sexual blackmail on the side.)

All in all, this thing *sprawls* -- and the Iran-Contra veterans in the administration are only the tip of the iceberg.

Gates' business ties to Cheney

Postby Gouda » Wed Nov 15, 2006 6:48 am

Snippet from Raw Story

Client-partners

Certainly Gates' business activities might make it difficult for him to push back against the formidable Cheney.

Gates has been on the board of directors for Parker Drilling Company since 2001. A major client-partner of Parker is Halliburton. In 2004, for example, Halliburton landed the Iride-Samaria Project in Mexico for $175 million, and Parker was brought into the project to provide the rigs and crews.

Serving on the Parker board with Gates is John W. Gibson, who until 2004 served as chief executive officer of Halliburton Energy Services and who acknowledges having gone hunting with Vice President Cheney.

Another member of the Parker board is Robert E. McKee III, who is currently the chairman of Eventure, a Shell-Halliburton joint project, as well as being the senior adviser to the Iraqi Oil Ministry

In addition to this, Gates serves with Donald Rumsfeld on the steering committee of the Transnational Threats Project at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS). CSIS is described in general as a neoconservative think tank, and in particular as a largely far-right funded institution, founded with Richard Scaife funds. During the 1970's, when George H.W. Bush was CIA director, the group was involved in an intelligence experiment called Team B, which manufactured or misrepresented intelligence to magnify the Cold War Soviet threat.

But some of Gates' former CIA colleagues make the argument that neither Gates nor Cheney is really an ideologue or a neoconservative. Nor, they insist, are they pragmatists or realists, as some have taken to describing the Bush 41 administration, in comparison to the current Bush administration. Essentially, as one former high ranking CIA official tells it, the idealogues have been booted, and those remaining are all corporatists.

This official cautioned that major changes in Iraq should not be expected from Gates. Mel Goodman concurs, adding that he believes that Gates will add troops, not reduce the number.

Remember anti-Bush Larry Wilkerson? The ex-chief of staff to Powell who was used as cowardly Powell's mouthpiece as part of the military avant guard "revolt" against Bush Inc.? Remember how we were excited that a high insider was speaking out so strongly against Bush and the Neocons? Here's some cold water:

Retired US Army Colonel Lawrence Wilkerson, who most recently served as Secretary of State Powell's chief of staff and who has been a harsh critique of the Bush administration, believes that Gates will do well.

"[Gates is] a solid guy who has made his way through the bureaucracy largely by doing what he was asked to do -- and in present circumstances, I believe that will be a positive," said Wilkerson.

Doing what he was asked to do. That's good? Isn't that what Powell did for Bush/Cheney/Rummy/Tenet? Sir, thou art conflicted. More Wilkerson:

"...Gates will follow the rules and the direction. And one hopes the President will listen to Baker-Hamilton and make their recommendations the "rules and the direction."

In closing, I do like this:

One former senior aide to the National Security Council, who wished to remain anonymous, offered a different perspective, saying "They are doing cartwheels in the E ring and could not care who was nominated so long as Rumsfeld resigned. They would not care if Satan replaced him."

The "E Ring" is Defense Department lingo for the outermost offices of the Pentagon.
