Fox cuts short 'Dollhouse' (sort of)
Image
Fox has scheduled the season finale of Joss Whedon's Dollhouse, but some sharp-eyed fans have noticed that there's something missing: the show's 13th episode.

The Dollhouse closer airs May 8, titled "Omega," and represents the show's 12th episode aired. But there's also a 13th episode called "Epitaph One," directed by Whedon.

Whedon compatriot Felicia Day (Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog) had a role in the unscheduled episode and Twittered: "Man, day getting worse and worse. Found out my Dollhouse ep, #13 isn't gonna air. Only on DVD. Such a great part too. Thx Fox. :( ..."

And then later DrHorrible, the account from Whedon's Web show, replied, "It's true. Dollhouse ep 13 isn't going to air. This makes @feliciaday sad. How do you feel? Why don't share those feelings with FOX?"

Reps from the 20th Century Fox studio and from the network declined to comment, but sources say the network has a different point of view on this news.

One could argue that Fox's entire season order was filled because the original Dollhouse pilot never aired; Whedon reshot it. If "Epitaph One" airs, well, that's like paying the studio for 14 hours instead of 13. Sources also say the story in the "Omega" season finale is more or less Whedon's original vision for how the season would end, so fans watching the show should have some degree of closure...

Viral marketing fake numerology and fake scarcity.

PSYOPS tactics in a PSYOPS show.

(I'm listening to CIA Mockingbird, Jim Lehrer, lying about his JFK coverage at Dallas 11/22/63 on Nationalist Propaganda Radio as I type.
Lehrer is reinforcing the Oswald-dunnit-with-his-Magic-Bullet bullshit.
Poetic injustice.)

Right now I'm watching Life of Mammals with David Attenborough and this is definitely a clear-cut case of mammalian sociobiology at work.

"Fox" channel? The genetic soap opera is so obvious!

Whedon is enacting a pecking order ritual drama that's billions of years old, IN PLAIN SIGHT. Sure, they'll say this is about "Ratings," but that's all part of the system.

...yeah, interpreting everything through the lens of my own media diet is fun, I can see why Hugh posts so much.

The number 13 nonsense is obvious. Tactics of viral marketing less so.

Sustaining interest and confusion is s.o.p....was my point in mentioning what NRP was playing.

So when the show is canceled and the unaired episodes never air, was that still fake numerology marketing fake scarcity? I'm just curious if you ever admit mistakes.

My sweetie rented the first disc of DOLLHOUSE via netflix.

We watched the whole disc last night (skipping the pilot) (before and after going to see District 9) and it seems a whole lot better without sufferring thru commercial breaks. The second episode seems like IT should have been the pilot instead of the one they used.

Some interesting stuff in the series ... I'm really wondering where the producers got most of their "inspiration". There seem to be some very specific details that, not having read most of the MK-victim literature (Bryce, O'Brien, etc.), I wonder if they relate to either said "popular mk literature" and/or the technical mk literature?

Too bad she can't act her way out of a tissue paper cage. Though undeniably hawt, I couldn't bear to watch her "act" -- it was painful.

Agreed. I would not, however, kick her out of bed for her thespian abilities, or lack thereof.

Here's something I posted some time ago on this forum, where we were directed to a website wherein you took a survey and, in turn, they told you what movie you were. This is me:

Actually, beeline, I'm pretty sure that they've already revealed that her real name is Caroline. Haven't had time to rewatch the 1st season on DVD yet, so I can't tell you which episode(s) mentioned it, but it seems likely that it was the one that took place on a college campus. She ended up in a laboratory she'd previously broken into as an animal rights activist, which would be a logical place to reveal it. And I seem to recall Alan Tudyk mentioning it multiple times in the season ender--but given the state of my memory for recent events, I can't be certain

I found the premier date on an IMDb page about the fall season shows. Here's their page on next season's Dollhouse.

And though it's somewhat off-topic, anyone interested in MC themes should try to watch Fringe's 1st season on DVD before September 17th when Season 2 premieres. There's non-consensual human experimentation (on kids, no less) involving the two stars' pasts, plus lots of interesting science fiction speculation about alternate universes that are almost like ours...but not quite. At least watch the season ender, where Leonard Nimoy appears as one of the scientists. (There's a link to the full episode on that website front page)
