The time is given as 1:00 AM for both video locations, which is awfully close to a date change of course. Given the Gregorian January 28th date, I see the Hebrew calendar's equivalent is the 23rd of Sh'vat 5771. The Hijri (Islamic) calendar's equivalent is the 24th of Safar 1432.

that pics from 2008, and I can't find a streetlight that's changed position, sure they could have been taken from the same hotel room, but they're so identical,

Busted. Can't help but feel more crestfallen than smug about it. Like seeing the end credits on a good episode of the X-Files.

So for future reference (attention optics nerds), the star diffusion on those streetlights definitely should be rotating along with the handheld camera's left-right rolls, right?

Yes, it does. Why isn't that in the wikimedia image? The hoaxsters filmed the background through a window screen for authenticity?

The screening is an artifact of videotaping an LCD.

yeah, at first I thought it was videoed through a screen, but it is THE screen. Looks like they're videoing an image on a LCD monitor, then putting the 'object' as an overlay.

here you can see the pixels in the LCD monitor when zoomed it...
