It's just another provocation. They want the people to turn violent first, so that a crackdown can be painted as justifiable - disregarding the fact that the regime has been violent towards the people throughout it's existence, and especially during these protests.

Sulieman and his CIA friends are obviously keen students of The J-Curve. They know that violence doesn't spring readily from constant oppression, but is almost inevitable if a promised relief is suddenly and unexpectedly denied.

I hope the people of Egypt will see through, and resist, this provocation, just like the ones before it. If they don't, I can't blame them.

It sounds like the oppressive Sunni minority in control of mainly Shia Bahrein may tumble of Feb 14th as there are massive demos planned then. That effects eastern Saudi, which has a lot of Shia - and I believe is where the oil is.

Politics in our Banana Empire being what they are, tomorrow this will be called an "intelligence failure." It prompted a statement by Obama, at the beginning of his routine speech in Wisconsin, that "we are watching history unfold." This will be a contentious issue in Congress, while the continuing flow of US military aid to the Egyptian dictatorship will remain unmentioned.

It's time for US to get out in the streets in solidarity with our Egyptian sisters and brothers. Whatever country you're in, the right embassy for the protests tomorrow is the American one.

I think that's what the Americans had told him to do, after last Friday already. Leave and cede to the protesters' biggest demand, and let Suleiman take over so that the regime stays in place and Obama can make a little speech about how "we have clearly heard the voice of the Egyptian people". But he just can't go.

A local channel was carrying Al Jazeera until ten minutes ago and now they've switched over to some music thing. Dammit.

Could not agree more with Ahab. This is a trap, well planned, and deliberate.

I hope that the great people of Egypt will resist the trap, and will re-group and assess their tactics which have been impeccable to date. Their strength lies in those strikes, which should be calibrated to result in a slow, ruthless strangulation of the plutocracy's holdings. With luck this will cause a crack in the solidarity of the elite, and the military.

The US, Israel and Egypt's elite will not give up unless there is no alternative. Sending wishes to all Egyptians that their courage and brilliance will result in a revolution more successful than any other in history.
