It happened with Operation Red Wings. Google News pulls up at least another two stories. The Operation Red Wings deaths were also a helicopter taken down by an RPG and Peter Pace acknowledged the same day that it was shot down. According to 'officials': "None of those killed in the crash is believed to have been part of the SEALs mission that killed bin Laden, but they were from the same unit as the bin Laden team."

This does away with any worries that those heroically anonymous 9/11 Avengers might possibly be the subjects of revenge attacks by outraged "Al Qaeda" members. Because there's no sense in preserving the anonymity of the honourable dead for fear that they might yet be killed.

So now, at least, we can look forward to weeks of solemn media tributes to those 20-odd dead Avengers, complete with their names and photos, plus numerous heartbreaking biographical details supplied in interviews by their parents, colleagues and friends. After all, the tenth anniversary is barely a month away, and that kind of stuff sells newspapers. Surely no one will deny that The Men Who Killed Bin Laden deserve at least as much honour as Pat Tillman and Jessica Lynch?

So it looks like all but one of them were killed: the OP says "more than 20 Navy SEALS from the unit that killed Osama bin Laden [died]", and further down "One source said the team was thought to include 22 SEALs", while the WaPo story kenoma linked to mentions "23 Navy SEALs involved in the mission [to kill Bin Laden]." So maybe just the officer was spared?

UPDATE: CNN is reporting that none of the SEALs in the crash were members of the operation that killed Osama bin Laden. Officials now confirm that the helicopter was shot down by insurgents.

This is highly strange, for several reasons...as we are just about one month away from the big ol' ten year mark.

For one, there's not that many SEALS. Very few people who try out for it make it, so if this was some honest to goodness good shooting from Talib', the gub'ment dun effed up.
Operation Red Wings is something that sounds like it was out of a movie, but that I believe really did happen in 2005. Marcus Luttrel, the lone Seals survivor, said he refused to shoot villagers passing by which apparently then lead to being surrounded by Taliban forces. (the "lesson of the story" being that "they shoulda killed the villagers")

Second, the timing. Hot on the heels of the OBL raid "details" and such...

But yeah, it's strange so many SEALS were killed...what is it 31 spec ops guys all together?(Surprised it wasnt "33 dead")
Im assuming the actual OBL kill team is on vacation or back home.

Anyone notice the parlor tricks and illusionist shit that seems frustrating?

Anytime there was a "new" bin Laden video, the video would freeze right when OBL was about to talk and reference current events

And allegedly, right when the Seals Six team were about to enter the OBL compound, the live feed to the White House was conveniently cut off.

this weird stuff seems to always happen. Cameras in the Princess Diana tunnel mysteriously shuts off before her car enters. No cameras around Pentagon happen to capture Flight 77.

It's like "they" are fucking with us...like someone who claims to have special powers refuses to perform their trick in front of a live audience. Just a wink and a nod revelation of the method
