^ more people have to do this. I realize that it isn't easy to quit a job especially in these precarious times. However.. isn't it exactly in such tmes that we must bravely withdraw our support for the oppressive organizations?
I would add that I'm sure Rev Fraser would have 'changed the system from within' had he seen that possibility. Clearly he sees no such chance. That's the same for most of us, I believe.
Good for him. Good for all of us.

It involved a mentally ill homeless man, named Kali, who brandished a knife at an Occupy volunteer, and the camp’s “security” detail beat him bloody with a two-by-four and he had to be hospitalized. “The man struck in the head with a two-by-four — for me, that was the emotional end,” the mayor said.

There would be plenty of videos to back up these allegations. Where's the video?wordspeak2 wrote:WR wrote:

Right. I'm *strongly* doubting it. Maybe it's based on a true story, as they say. Meanwhile, we've got veteran Scott Olsen in the hospital with a cracked skull. What does that mean, a cracked skull? This guy's gonna survive, right?
People probably don't remember, but never mind Kent State- there have been murders of protestors in more recent times. There was on in Rome at a a massive anti-globalization protest pre-9/11, and a college kid from Umass died from complications after being shot by a "rubber bullet" at the FTAA protests in Miami in 2000 (not reported at all). And pigs kill people in the cities all the time, yes, but there's more public outrage when it happens at a protest.
On edit- they're saying he might not survive. http://www.businessinsider.com/this-vet ... st-2011-10

A cop petting an abandoned kitten?
If this were the Tunisian, Egyptian, Bahraini or Libyan press last Spring, what do you think would be said about the state of their media?

In October of 1966, in Oakland California, Huey Newton and Bobby Seale founded the Black Panther Party for Self-Defense.

Mazars and Deutsche Bank could have ended this nightmare before it started.
They could still get him out of office.
But instead, they want mass death.
Don’t forget that.

Eight US marines dressed in full desert camouflage just came up out of the subway and asked me how to get to the protest (two blocks away).
I totally understand where they're coming from, but I really hope that this doesn't end up like when the Hell's Angels did "security" at Altamont.
More and more, this whole thing is seeming like the opening rounds of a full-on civil war.

Bruce, if they're on your side (I'm guessing they are) then I think it's a good thing for them to be there. They might get in trouble with their commands if they're photographed and recognized, but otherwise I imagine them being a stabilizing presence.Bruce Dazzling wrote:Eight US marines dressed in full desert camouflage just came up out of the subway and asked me how to get to the protest (two blocks away).

In Denver, at the DNC, war protesters were barred from marching to the convention center and a platoon of vets in formation made the cops cry.

I'm all for peaceful demonstrations but what I think this effectively demonstrates is the real meaning of the 2nd amendment which is protection from tyranny.

Sorry to call you out elfismiles, but my grandfather was part of a militia that formed to guard their neighborhood while the district reeled from race riots. That's what the second amendment is about - scary life-threatening shit. The second amendment is not about posing with a new toy.elfismiles wrote:I'm all for peaceful demonstrations but what I think this effectively demonstrates is the real meaning of the 2nd amendment which is protection from tyranny.

GENERAL STRIKE & MASS DAY OF ACTION – NOVEMBER 2
October 27, 2011
by Bruce Paul
Below is the proposal passed by the Occupy Oakland General Assembly on Wednesday October 26, 2011 in reclaimed Oscar Grant Plaza. 1607 people voted. 1484 voted in favor of the resolution, 77 abstained and 46 voted against it, passing the proposal at 96.9%. The General Assembly operates on a modified consensus process that passes proposals with 90% in favor and with abstaining votes removed from the final count.
PROPOSAL:
We as fellow occupiers of Oscar Grant Plaza propose that on Wednesday November 2, 2011, we liberate Oakland and shut down the 1%.
We propose a city wide general strike and we propose we invite all students to walk out of school. Instead of workers going to work and students going to school, the people will converge on downtown Oakland to shut down the city.
All banks and corporations should close down for the day or we will march on them.
While we are calling for a general strike, we are also calling for much more. People who organize out of their neighborhoods, schools, community organizations, affinity groups, workplaces and families are encouraged to self organize in a way that allows them to participate in shutting down the city in whatever manner they are comfortable with and capable of.
The whole world is watching Oakland. Let’s show them what is possible.
The Strike Coordinating Council will begin meeting everyday at 5pm in Oscar Grant Plaza before the daily General Assembly at 7pm. All strike participants are invited. Stay tuned for much more information and see you next Wednesday.
