Re: The "show off your Avatar" thread
My new avatar is a joke picture I had a college roommate friend take in the mid-1980s.
The chart is mostly random, arbitrary arrow connections with a few obvious jokes like the close "sex<-->money" relation, and parody of American Cold War mindsets. Despite this, 20 years later when I sent it to some friends, some of them laughed but others wrote back, saying "This is fascinating, worth studying!" I told them, "It's just a visual joke, it means nothing!" They said, "No, no, I think you're on to something!"

In the thumbnail size you can't even read the chalkboard, of course. In this context it's a parody of me pontificating on some bullshit gobbledegook as if I actually knew anything. I do like boxes & arrows..."think between the box."
I considered this one:

...not a self-portrait, though I painted it. I'm not a painter, except for lessons (acrylics) when I was a little kid. Years later, I painted a bunch of tempra-paint paintings at a wine/painting party. This is one of them, probably painted with a glass of wine in one hand. The guy looks too dour, but I might use it later anyway.

Encounters with Aliens on this Day
September 29

Needham, Massachusetts - September 29, 1968
Sketch of Needham, Massachusetts UFO
1974 - At 12:30 a.m. a witness named Sorba reported seeing several strange humanoids at the local "Parc de la Gaudiniere", in Nantes, Loire-Atlantique, France. He described the beings as robot-like, with bumpy looking skin, and without faces. They moved about heavily swinging their arms. Fifteen minutes later, at 12:45 a.m., a 46-year-old woman named Le Bihan and two other witnesses saw three humanoids in Riec-sur-Belon, Finistere, France. They were 1.7 meters tall, corpulent like the Michelin tire man, and moved by rocking side-to-side. There suits were metallic, their heads round, and they had no facial details eventhough they wore no headgear. Physiological effects and post traumatic stress were reported. (Sources: (1) Albert S. Rosales, Humanoid Contact Database, citing Lumieres dans la Nuit, # 195; (2) Lumieres dans la Nuit, May 1975, p. 6; J. L. Brochard, MUFON UFO Journal, June 1978, p. 8; Richard H. I'm not going to use this one myself, but I thought I'd stick it here in case any other posters feel like they've had the same smirking face as their avatar for long enough now, and are considering an update:

Re: The "show off your Avatar" thread

This made me laugh. A standing gate, the fence long gone, yet locked. I lacked an avatar image for a damn long time. This struck me (while walking my dog).
There you go.

Hmph. Jack, being computer-literate, starts off as plain old Shakespeare and develops effortlessly into a masked green smokin' Shakespeare with a clitoris on his neck. Meanwhile, I'm stuck with the dalek.

I didn't know who that was in Freitag's avatar until just now. I do lead an insulated life, apparently.
