Re: Hugh
Ridiculous. I have no problem with academia being led down his path, compared to most Critical Theory endeavors over the past 50, his schtick is downright sane.

Re: Hugh
Just a head's up that Hugh has posted a Theremy thread, and little good ever comes of that. Bears watching.

Re: Hugh
Just came through to discuss exactly that. First time Hugh has really set off my spidey sense, this is a very strange and uncharacteristic turn for him to take...innit?
Am I delusional or was he saying the entire Theremy phenomenon was a CIA campaign to discredit Frank Morales last time around?

Re: Hugh
The OP in that thread is well nigh unintelligible. It would be charitable to call it hermetic. But who knows, perhaps it is aimed at someone in particular with access to certain specific information. I have noticed that Hugh's few recent posts have been, err, less comprehensible than his more frequent older ones.

Re: Hugh
Most paranoid take:
- "Hugh" is a character in an elaborate setup that involves one or several individuals perhaps related to the Ty Brown nexus. This post is a communique of sorts among the group, designed to troll several members of the board simultaneously, while acting as a signal to others in the community of discordian fuckheads which might include any or all of everyone including ya'll bitchez.
- Hugh is some guy with a schtick who knows from years of posting exactly what buttons to push to piss off whatever members happen to be pissing him off at any given moment. The post is aimed directly at Willow and any members who may be either sensitive or sensitized to the Theremy material - Jeff, for eample. Hugh has used the Theremy material many times before (and yes, in completely opposite and conflicting perspectives), but only when he needed it to turn a knife here and there.
- Hugh is an extremely earnest but misguided paranoiac who believes he is right and hates anyone who stands in the way of his fight against subliminal film fascism. Exhibit A: a very recent pm exchange regarding the locking of his last thread, in which,
Any person who would write that has to be pretty far gone, imho. He is moving from the "organized" to the "disorganized" aspects of his twisted mindset.Hugh wrote:I suspect that the whole "Occupy" movement was instigated by the Powers That Be as two things to perpetuate the status quo:
1) venting. Army psyops manuals point at the value of venting to sustain things as they are. Much like the 'Jon Stewart' effect.
2) keyword hijacking.
Soon there will be a very credible exposure of how the US military-especially CIA- occupies this country as the biggest Green Zone from which to base attacks on resources-to-be-had.
So the timing is perfect to vent, hijack, and prepare for the counterinsurgency-inevitable doctrines deployed during the political conventions of (s)Election 2012.

Re: Hugh
In light of the recent eyeno banishing, perhaps it's finally time to say goodbye to Hugh.
Jack reported him yesterday, and although there's nothing particularly egregious going on, he is ignoring his 'one KWH shitstorm post per thread' rule. Yet again.
It's really getting old, and he doesn't even bother me all that much. I can't imagine how annoying he must be to the people whose threads he continues to ruin.
He's been warned a gazillion times, and if it comes down to a choice between Riddler and Hugh, I'll go with Riddler every time.
What do you all think?

Re: Hugh
I think we could ban him and he & his theories will still be cycling through our culture for another 24 months. I realize that's not really a contribution to the question, but I am in awe considering how much he's managed to get KWH into our DNA.
Ban Hugh? I like him quite a bit but I can't get past how disruptive he is.
I used to tell myself that he was at least raising awareness but that's not actually true. It's the same conversation every time, and that conversation is always, always primarily about Hugh himself. Not the issues.
I think he's been our most disruptive member and this is a good idea.

Re: Hugh
It seems to me the problem is not Hugh's contribution per se, but rather the conversation that results from it. Still, there is a clear rule that was created for him, and he can choose to respect it or ignore it. If he ignores it, there should be consequences. But I think it should be clear that any action is related to the non-respect of the rules rather than to the content of his posts, which is not in itself offensive.

Re: Hugh
Agreed...Hugh is a product of his environment here, it's true. Still, the main question isn't causality but ongoing, every day effects. At least, that's my impression of the situation.DrVolin wrote:It seems to me the problem is not Hugh's contribution per se, but rather the conversation that results from it.
Should I be more kind-hearted about this?

Yes. Hugh's next warning needs to be his last.Jeff wrote:I just posted a warning to him, but my wording was probably too mild. I do think it may be time finally to draw a line for him which, if he crosses, there's no return.
Nordic may be in need of some time off as well, but his encroachments are mostly Hugh-centric.

Re: Hugh
PW pm'd me and several others about Hugh doing some really egregiously bad alphabet soup shit in her thread about the Detroit child murders. I simply deleted it. Just wanted to cop to being the person who disappeared it here so we're all clear on how mods are dealing with Hugh. Hugh has not asked for an explanation yet but I'm sure he knows.
